Kernel Upgrades Completed

It was not a clean upgrade. Grub got corrupted on one machine, one server didn't properly export the exports until I manually restarted the nfs server. There were quite a few broken NFS mounts. So, some things were back up at 11:16, and the broken systems were gradually restored with restoration completed at 12:07.

friendica.eskimo.com/ and hubzilla.eskimo.com/ are back up and operational. Actually this was one of the things operational at 11:16.

The company Neuralink, owned by American inventor and billionaire Elon Musk, showed a video of a monkey that plays the game Pong "with the power of thought".

Initially, the test subject, who had previously been implanted in the brain with a neurochip, played with a joystick, and the computer memorized the brain signals. Over time, the device was turned off completely, but the monkey was able to continue playing.

She was also encouraged with a reward in the form of a banana smoothie. The macaque received it through a special tube.

Elon Musk explained that the improvement of technology is aimed at eliminating injuries to the brain and spinal cord and making up for lost human abilities.

Yaphet Kotto, 'Alien' and 'Homicide: Life on the Street' actor, dead at 81

Yaphet Kotto, an actor known for bringing gravitas to his roles across television and film, has died, according to his agent, Ryan Goldhar. He was 81.

Kotto died on March 14 at 10:30 p.m. local time in the Philippines, where he lived with his wife, Goldhar said. Information on the cause of death was not provided.

Kotto's on-screen body of work began in the late '60s and remained steady through the '90s. In that time, he amassed an array of memorable roles that spoke to his transformative talent.
His notable film work includes roles in "Alien," "The Running Man," "Midnight Run" and "Live and Let Die," in which he played iconic Bond villain Mr. Big.

In television, his longest-running role was as Lt. Al Giardello on NBC's "Homicide: Life on the Street."

Kernel Upgrades

I plan to upgrade kernels on all the servers tonight starting at 11PM Pacific Daylight Time. Upgrades should be concluded by midnight. This will result in outages lasting 10-20 minutes for each physical server and perhaps another ten minutes for virtual machines on that server depending upon whether NFS and NIS properly bind after reboots or not.

i've totally fallen in love with Tunisian Knit Stitch but the pattern i'm using does require a long (tricot) hook. Bc it's along way to the shop if ya wanna chiko roll and i dont particularly want to pay more for postage than the item being posted, aand the mail is not incredibly reliable aand i want the hook now gaddammit now...tadah:

a plastic straw (courtesy of the lovely Maori ladies who run a localish cafe), a wooden bead and some plastic beading umm stuff...twine? cord? whatevs, it's plastic and a bit stretchy and thin enough to hold the straw in place without increasing the diameter very much). The bead stops the stitches falling off.
Although not a unique idea, it came to me like a vision. It also came to many others, i have since found by looking on the web 😀
