Can confirm this is a real facility. Not built yet but it’s coming. It wasn’t exactly a secret so I stop short of believing it’s for nefarious purposes though anything can be used as a weapon in the right or wrong hands.
At this point, it’s an exotic chiropteran research facility paid with tax dollars in the county I live in.
Hand "Tools"
I had started watching forest cabins being built on YouTube. I find them fascinating. There is such a wide variety of sizes, materials, construction techniques, and construction equipment and personnel. A few videos show forest manors being built from hand hewn logs. Others show clever, homey hovels being built in the side of a hill.
Many are built entirely from logs. Several have log superstructures with adobe mud bricks, and mud mortar. One even uses the same superstructure technique, but uses round wood "bricks", and mud mortar. One or two ordered a log cabin construction kit and had it delivered onsite, and then hand assembled it. (Macro Lincoln logs. 😉) One fellow built a very nice cabin entirely from wood pallets ("skids").
Construction teams consist primarily of three varieties: (a) lone man or woman (b) male/female couple, (c) father-son, or bro-bro pair. "Personnel" vary drastically in terms of their skill-sets and resulting fineness of work.
Most have only a cast iron stove for heating the cabin and cooking, and fuel lanterns for light. One woman built a heating and cooking stove and oven, including chimney, entirely from adobe bricks and clay mud. Most of the cabins with iron or steel stoves, use steel vents and flashing.
There are a huge variety of window construction techniques: from wooden hinged shutters only, to hand constructed top steel hinged, to recycled wood windows, to custom built, composite, triple pane. These span all manner of cabin construction and material types.
One of the most interesting aspects of the variety of construction techniques is the equal and independent variety of wood preservative techniques, especially for wood that touches or is buried in the ground. These vary from charring surfaces, wrapping in industrial, weatherproof skins, chemical wood preservatives to concrete piers. And, then there are those that not only ignore the problem, they invite extra risk by burying the backside of the cabin, and creating a sod roof.
So, after seeing the above "background" videos, I'm watching this guy build a cabin entirely from forest logs and entirely with hand tools. He has a back-pack full of stuff, and his trusty dog with him. (Lone guys and their dogs are a recurring theme.) All the camera shots can be explained by pre-scene, tripod setup, and inter-scene (or activity) movement. Until ...
As the cabin reaches complete construction of the walls and roof log girders, we start to get a birds-eye view of the skeleton structure. Then the camera zooms out to we see the entire section of forest and the postage stamp-sized cabin structure.
Drone mounted GoPro. We live in a strange and wondrous world, where one can effect all manner of pretense (😉) (at least until #AcceleratingClimateCataclysm overtakes us 🙁).

James O.Keefe, OMG
I want to personally salute every veteran in the OMG family and to thank you for your brave and selfless service. On this Veterans Day, I hope you feel the love and admiration of this grateful nation.
It's been a busy week for the OMG staff, and a very busy month. We shared a story today about the ActBlue meeting in Boston that we tried to report on, and we're working on that bombshell report from Congress detailing the efforts the government went to in 2020 to censor and deplatform voices on the right -- including yours truly.
UNCOVERING MORE OF THE CENSORSHIP INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX
We're about to release our report on the Election Integrity Project, a shadowy cabal of university censors and government officials. Rep. Jim Jordan first shared the bombshell report from Congress on Monday, and in the report, we learned that countless voices on the right were being silenced during the 2020 election. But we also learned that much of the content that was flagged for removal turned out to be true. They even censored jokes. The federal government censored your jokes. What a scary thought. Check out the story on our website at okeefemediagroup.com.
TWO YEARS AGO THE FBI SHOWED UP
The FBI showed up at my Door with a battering ram, looking into the matter of the President’s daughter’s diary. Footage of one of the raids against my colleague, Eric Cochran, was captured by Eric’s camera.
The trauma of injustice changes you. It strengthens you, but at the risk of disheartening you. Just a month prior, our HQ was completely destroyed by a hurricane, and thing after terrible thing before that for 15 years. It has been the case that every few months , there have been seemingly discouraging event with impossible odds to overcome. The attacks from all directions with unrelenting force have always been directionally proportional to the amount of impact made over the target. The solution to avoid this, is to avoid being brave and doing anything at all, or simply betray the people who do. There’s an incentive to hurt the people who are. The system rewards it. It’s not that people can’t do it or don’t know what to do. It’s that they fear the consequences if they do it well. Which is why I believe the choice for honest Americans is the matter of willpower, not ability. Doing the right thing has become a liability. Leadership has become a liability:
I’ve found people feel a profound of spiritual shame and regret knowing their own cowardice, but desiring a life free of the physical pain that comes with being courageous.
There were 100 seminal events and this was just one, two teas ago today, but it made me question everything I believed in. For me, 24 hours after the raid I was in shock, and the fear set in. Fear is a dangerous drug. Are they planting drugs? Are they leaking to the NYT? (Yes). Are they putting child porn on my phone? Am I able to raise the millions to pay all the lawyers? Temporarily I sometimes sense the fear that can paralyze a man, yet the fear component I never focused on. It goes away after a few days when you’re hot on the lead of the next big story.
The FBI agent asked if wanted to call my lawyer. I unlocked the phone and did that, but he then snatched the phone out of my hands, and he put the phone in an evidence bag, presumably with the settings changed so they could have access to everything journalistically on the device. Protection of sources is paramount, and with that alter-ego naked before the feds, It felt like a raping of the 1st amendment and the ultimate deterrent to anybody who sought to do true investigative reporting and against anybody who lead such an effort. And it chilled out sources and whistleblowers, as it was designed to do. There could be no redress of grievances, no amount of money as restitution, once that rubicon is crossed. The agent then asked, “do you have any questions Mr. O’Keefe?” They had put me in handcuffs, which I presumed was because I was under arrest - like they did in 2010 in Orleans. I said nothing, but as I looked into his eyes, I thought of saying, “May your children forgive you.”
There will be more pain. I’m certain of it, but I choose not to focus on it. Hunger, the talent, the strength and the humility to go out and get the next story in video that people need to see. That’s what matters.
The quest is to the find the good people who aren’t focused on the fear. And to pray to God that the courage to continue remains, and to not lose heart in the process.

Story at a Glance
“Plandemic: Indoctornation” reveals possible driving forces behind the vaccine agenda. It looks at the roles of the World Health Organization (WHO), Bill Gates, Tedros Adhanom, Dr. Anthony Fauci, mainstream media, Silicon Valley tech giants, Big Pharma, and many others, connecting the dots between them.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) owns the patent for SARS-CoV (the virus responsible for SARS) isolated from humans. In 2007, the CDC filed a petition with the patent office to keep its coronavirus patent confidential. It also owns patents for detection methods and for a kit to measure the virus.
By law, one cannot patent naturally occurring DNA. If SARS-CoV is natural, then the patent is illegal. If the virus is manmade, the patent is legal, but the creation of the virus would be a violation of biological weapons treaties and laws. So, either way, the CDC may have engaged in illegal activity.
Because the CDC owns the patent on SARS-CoV, it controls who has the ability to make inquiries into it. Unless authorized, you cannot look at the virus, and you cannot measure it or make tests for it since the CDC owns all those patents.
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill owns a patent describing methods for producing recombinant coronaviruses.
Late in May 2020, media producer Mikki Willis released the first part of his documentary “Plandemic,” featuring Judy Mikovits, who has a doctorate in biochemistry and molecular biology and is a cellular and molecular biologist1 whose research revealed many vaccines are contaminated with gammaretroviruses due to the viruses being grown in contaminated animal cell lines. The 26-minute film was banned on every social media platform after going viral.2 On Aug. 18, 2020, Part 2, titled “Plandemic: Indoctornation,” was released.
Plandemic: Indoctornation
Part 2 is a full-length feature revealing a possible driving force behind the vaccine agenda. It looks at the roles of the World Health Organization (WHO), Bill Gates, Tedros Adhanom, Dr. Anthony Fauci, mainstream media, Silicon Valley tech giants, Big Pharma, and many others, connecting the dots between them. Free supplemental footage, including a follow-up interview with Ms. Mikovits, as well as links to additional resources provided by all of the interviewees, is supposed to be available on the film’s website, PlandemicSeries.com.
Event 201
The film starts out by reviewing Event 201, a pandemic preparedness simulation hosted by the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, the World Economic Forum, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in October 2019—10 weeks before the COVID-19 outbreak first began in Wuhan.
This scripted tabletop exercise included everything we now see playing out in the real world, from PPE shortages, lockdowns, and removal of civil liberties to mandated vaccination campaigns, riots, economic turmoil, and the breakdown of social cohesion. A highlight reel of the predictions put forth during this event is included in the documentary.
At the time, the leaders at Event 201 spent a great deal of time discussing ways to limit and counter the spread of expected “misinformation” about the pandemic and the vaccines that would have to be developed. In addition to outright censorship, their plan included the use of “soft power,” a term referring to stealth influencing using celebrities and other social media influencers.
CDC Owns Coronavirus Patents
Mr. Willis interviews David E. Martin, a national intelligence analyst and founder of IQ100 Index, which developed linguistic genomics, a platform capable of determining the intent of communications. According to Mr. Martin, in 1999, IBM digitized 1 million U.S. patents, which allowed his company to conduct a review.
Using linguistic genomics technology, Mr. Martin made the “horrific assessment” that one-third of all patents filed in the United States were functional forgeries, meaning that “while they had linguistic variations, they covered the same subject matter.” In 1999, patents for coronavirus also started to appear, “and thus began the rabbit trail,” he said.
In 2003, Asia experienced an outbreak of SARS. Almost immediately, scientists began racing to patent the virus. Ultimately, the CDC nabbed ownership of SARS-CoV (the virus responsible for SARS) isolated from humans.

write your own terminal
What’s next after you write your own text editor and mail client? How about a terminal? In fact, as a practice exercise or to learn some new skills, I’d say a terminal emulator makes for a much better target. It’s composed of many parts, but at an approachable level, making it easy to make tangible progress. In this way, I think it makes for a good introductory project. At the same time, there’s a very long tail of features that can be added to keep things interesting.
Compared to some other make your own projects, I think it’s possible to get a terminal up to self hosting status very quickly, after which one can whittle away at the rest. But the missing features don’t hamper progress, and one can get the satisfaction of using it for real. When I think about the experience of using my own text editor for anything but demo purposes, it does not spark joy.
outline
There are many ways to choose your own adventure, but here’s one way to break it down.
The most obvious thing to notice about a terminal is it consists of a window of text on the screen. So getting some basic text, like the word hello, on the screen would be one first objective.
This could be as simple as a text area in Qt, which would let you get moving pretty quickly.
A more challenging option might be to use OpenGL and render everything manually. This certainly opens the door for fooling around with some hilariously useless graphics effects later on. A terminal is not usually one’s first thought for an example 3D application, but that possibly makes it even better as an introduction to shaders, etc. The OpenGL pipeline is easier to understand without also trying to absorb all the matrix math at the same time. This is admittedly a big step to undertake for the first time. Some more notes below.
The FreeType tutorial is easy to follow and mostly sufficient for a terminal. We don’t need to worry about kerning and ligatures, etc.
It’s also possible to write a terminal in a terminal, like tmux, but I’d save this for my second attempt. It’s very helpful to have a place to dump logging info that’s not also the screen we’re writing to.
Next we need an input handler for the keyboard. Press any key, see any key appear in the text area.
Once we can draw and update some text, we can try reading output from a simple command, like ls. We read from a file, and put the contents on the screen. As long as the text is legible, it’s good enough. Always time to adjust the font size later.
But what’s a terminal without a psuedo terminal? The forkpty function will probably be of interest.
At this point, we should be pretty close to running a shell. Change ls to sh. Does it work? At this point, if not done yet, we may need to figure out scrolling when we run ls -l /usr/bin. This is already starting to become useful for basic shell tasks.
Time to handle some subset of vt100/ansi/xterm escape sequences. This is certainly easier to handle if you’ve written a terminal app, or even just a basic printf(“^32m“) to get green text. This is a huge rabbit hole, but it’s easy to take one step at a time. Colors are a simple starting point.
A slightly more complicated application is top. It uses some of the basic cursor movement and screen clearing functions. Just implementing the H, J, K commands is enough to see visible progress.
The most complete documentation for escape sequences is the [xterm reference although it’s not an easy document to read top to bottom. The wezterm documentation focuses a lot on colors, with an empty section for cursor movement, but also contains some useful links such as to the ANSI escape code on wikipedia. There’s many ways of explaining the same archaic concepts, so it helps to skim a few resources.
With a few more sequences implemented, (r to set scroll region being a notable one), more programs like vi should start to work.
And that’s a terminal emulator.
long tail
There’s still so much more to do, compared to any terminal widely used, but ticking off more boxes is pretty easy in isolation. There’s a hundred more escape sequences, but usually only a few minutes work each. Many of them end up being duplicates or variations of other codes, the result of a long twisted history.
Similarly one can add scroll back. Copy and paste just the way you like it.
I didn’t think selecting and copying text would be difficult, but I was quite surprised at how easy it came together. And the same for some other features I’d put off while I poked around trying to find more escape sequences to implement. In the end, I decided
let’s just use this thing, add my required features, and it all came together.
Special keys like arrows require specific handling and weird retro encodings. Another example of a feature which one can get by without, but which also only takes a minute to implement when you finally need it.
Endless work remaining, but it’s already very useful. I alternate my time between fixing up xterm conformance, improving the performance of the scrollback, and fine tuning the font size selection algorithm.
And just now there’s monaspace which promises to challenge the simplicity of font rendering.
Overall, what I really liked about this project was that I could defer work, but without compromising the project with hacks. For a long time, I didn’t even have my character glyphs properly aligned to the baseline. I simply wrote that code a bit later, but it was the same code I would have written at any earlier point. And in the mean time, I got to see what’s over the next hill.
opengl
Selecting the OpenGL option opens up a pretty long side quest. It’s overkill for a simple terminal emulator, but also way more fun once you get going. I think it’s worthwhile, we’re here to learn after all, but not at all necessary.
A good place to start would be something really basic like the glfw triangle demo, and then manipulate it to get textures. Alas, raw OpenGL code is very heavy on boiler plate and repetition.
It really helps if you can start with an abandoned game engine that provides helpful abstractions. It’s pretty long, but this video on renderer abstraction and some others from the cherno’s game engine series help. There’s plenty of other resources; I like this series from a few years ago because of the focus on practical realities of programming, not just graphical demos.
It’s possible to skip writing the abstraction, or use something else entirely (like godot maybe?), but I found the experience very informative. And now I have some code that lets me get any other OpenGL project up and running much faster. (Although technically, I already had it and this is my other project.)
In contrast to traditional OpenGL starter projects, this one doesn’t plunge down into the rabbit hole of materials and shadow maps, etc. Unless you want it to. You can be very inefficient to start, but there’s still room to then later refine and use better techniques like instancing.
Most importantly, I don’t think learning to do 2D in OpenGL will teach you anything that won’t help you learn 3D later, if you haven’t done so.
Or go hard mode and do it in Vulkan.

New Discourses
Pursuing the light of objective truth in subjective darkness.
The Basis of Classical Liberalism
://newdiscourses.com/2023/11/basis-of-classical-liberalism/
We are not God. We cannot become God, make God, or speak with the authority of God. This is axiomatic and the beginning of wisdom and prosperity.
Because we are not God, we cannot know the full nature of God, or even for certainty whether God exists at all. As a result, we cannot know any purpose, including ultimate purpose, each of our lives may have. Because we cannot know the full nature of God, should He exist, nor any purpose our lives may have in His sight, we lack the authority to compel the beliefs of others, lest we lead them into ultimate error. In particular, we therefore lack the authority to alienate anyone, self or other, from the possibility of fulfilling that purpose. In short, lacking the authority of God, we lack justification for the compulsion of our fellow man.
In that we all lack the authority of God and thus any justification for the compulsion of our fellow man, all men are created politically equal. Nothing in the world, which is also not God, justifies an intrinsically limited human being to hold political or social authority over another without the consent of both parties to that relationship. Any authority we can hold over any other person must therefore be earned, provisional, temporary, and voluntarily given and accepted.
Men, by their morally limited nature, which is sometimes called “fallen,” often seek to compel the belief, speech, and action of other men, both for good reasons and bad. The primary mechanisms by which a man can successfully compel another man to belief, speech, or action are through credible threats to his life, liberty, and livelihood, generally recognized in the last case as his property. Further, because of the nature of the ultimate privacy of conscience, which men may have any number of good reasons to keep private from other men, undue violation of the privacy of man and the contents of his mind can coerce him. Any who can destroy another’s life, liberty, or livelihood, or sufficiently violate his privacy, can compel his belief, speech, and activity and thus alienate him through destruction or compulsion from any potential ultimate purpose he may have. Only God could possibly hold such authority, and we are not God. No man can justify claiming such authority.
Thus, we hold these truths to be self-evident: that we are not God, and by virtue of that, we have been endowed by that which led to our existence, our Creator, whether the Laws of Nature or Nature’s God, with certain unalienable rights, and that among these are his life, liberty, and property, including the property of the private contents of our minds, and the ability to make use of these to pursue our happiness, fortunes, and whatever purposes, ultimate or otherwise, there may be within and of our lives.
These rights and the privacy necessary to maintain them shall be set aside and therefore, in light of the original meaning of the word, regarded as holy.
Because men must nevertheless live among one another in as much peace and in pursuit of as much prosperity as we may attain, some political system—a just government—needs to be instituted among them not for their rule but for the securing of these holy and unalienable rights. The primary purpose of a just government is therefore to secure these rights and to facilitate the peaceful resolution of conflicts and disputes that arise between men as a result of them and their individual differences.
What must such a government abide by, then, so that it can achieve this sacred task without itself alienating man from that which is unalienable? Government, too, is not God, no matter in what way it is instituted among men. It cannot become God, neither can it make God, nor can it speak or act with the authority of God. It must abide by limitations of nearly every imaginable sort and must secure the inalienable rights of man from itself and others.
Because a government lacks the authority of God, a just government has no intrinsic political authority over the men among whom it is constituted. That is, a just government cannot rule, and it cannot govern except with the consent of those whom it governs. Since government cannot usurp the authority to rule, law must rule in its place, subject to mechanisms of production and amendment that guarantee the participation and consent of those over whom it rules. In that none possesses any special political authority, none can be exempt from the law that is instituted among men for their own just governance.
All governments, including a just government, must possess and wield political authority, however, including to produce and enforce the law, which rules in its stead. That authority in a just government is of the people, by the people, and for the people, and as such it is all loaned political authority ultimately answerable at any time to the people it governs, is provisional, and subject to limits of time, scope, and checks and balances on its power.
A just government must be democratic in nature to obtain the consent of those it governs, but it cannot secure the rights of the few against the many unless the democracy is republican in application. Servants must be consented to by the people they represent. Fair and impartial elections must be held at intervals to loan political authority to public servants and to pass it to others at want or need, or else it usurps an authority greater than itself to which it can claim no right. The greater must be given a say and the lesser must be granted enough representation to counter the tide of opinion held prejudicially or negligently against it.
A just government must secure the rights of speech, press, protest, and petition or it cannot be held to account and the consent with which it governs cannot be duly informed. Its powers must be limited, divided, and placed into a system of checks and balances to prevent it from any illegitimate claim to rule with political authority it cannot have. Government is not God because we are not God. Just governments understand this and keep it. Unjust governments reject this and run afoul of it and the men they are meant to serve.
A just government cannot compel the beliefs, speech, or actions of men because it lacks any such authority, which cannot even be given on loan, and consequently it cannot deprive men of their lives, liberties, or properties, or a reasonable expectation of privacy, without the due process of law pursuant to its solitary sacred objective: to secure the inalienable rights of those whom it serves and protects. It therefore must secure the right to believe, speak, and worship as well as the rights to defend oneself against any and all attempts to alienate men from those fundamental rights which he retains inalienably. It cannot punish cruelly or unusually, torture, or compel any man to profess his own guilt.
Because individual belief and conscience is self-evidently inviolate, just government consequently must also secure a right to privacy without interference in private spaces and a reasonable expectation of limited privacy even in public spaces. In that governments are not God, because we are not God and they are instituted amongst us, they have no authority to violate the inner sanctity of the human mind in any person, neither to torture, nor to surveil persons without justified suspicion or manipulate their beliefs, actions, or environments so as to coerce them against their self-determined will. Instead, as with our other unalienable rights, just governments have a duty to secure a reasonable right to privacy between citizens and hold no right to violate that right themselves. Because we also are not God, none of us individually has any such authority over one another either.
As with just governments, just individuals must obtain any social or political authority they hold over another man by obtaining his consent. Because none possess intrinsic authority over others, consent to hold political authority must not be absolute and should be given freely and under contract according to merits and on terms determined by both relevant parties to be acceptable to each. Political authority between adults is therefore extended by virtue of demonstrated competence that is compelling to those in the relationship. Just governments should secure these arrangements and establish courts of justice to facilitate the resolution of conflicts between parties. The courts must adjudicate the law with impartiality, favoring neither the greater nor the lesser, and only under such judicial restraint should just men submit to the court. Arbitrary power must be resisted, and any doctrine of nonresistance against arbitrary power and oppression is absurd, slavish, and destructive of the good and happiness of mankind. Courts must therefore be impartial in carrying out the law.
Because belief cannot be compelled, likewise, none possess the authority to compel another to believe in any idea, right or wrong, true or false. Therefore, no proposition is to be regarded as true or good by virtue of he who made it. Every proposition earns its authority through processes of validation that demand it survive challenge by competing ideas that ultimately must be brought to bear against our best assessment of the laws of nature of objective reality or of God’s Creation, which by definition cannot be wrong or false and rest outside of but are accessible to each and every man. Men can establish themselves as authorities, to which others can consent or not, based upon their demonstrated capacities to determine that which is right and true through the successful applications of their talents and perceptions. In that every man is not God, which is to say he is limited and finite, no man obtains special or final authority on any of his proclamations of rightness or truth and must consent to seeing his own ideas challenged by those of others.
Because our right to our own property is inalienable, so is our right to do with our property what we will so long as it doesn’t violate the inalienable rights of others. In other words, we have the right not only to hold our property but to engage in commerce with it according to the principles of free enterprise under the law. Property can be exchanged by any two parties who mutually consent to the terms of the contract of exchange without undue interference by third parties, and a just government should secure this right to engage in commerce under its duty to secure the rights of each citizen’s property.
In summary, we are not God. The consequences of this self-evident proposition are vast. None of us possesses the authority to compel another or his belief because we lack in our limitation understanding of the significance of any error against his intrinsic value and potential purpose made in that way. We therefore self-evidently start the project of organizing our society from a position of political equality with certain rights that are inalienable, among these life, liberty, property, capacity for their use toward our happiness and purposes, and a reasonable expectation of privacy in which we can maintain their sanctity. Lacking authority to rule over one another, we are ruled instead by law and merit and lend social and political authority in limited ways as such through processes that are open in their nature and that may best determine these as objectively as we may. Individual belief is sacrosanct not because any man is God but because every man is not. The individual is politically inviolate because he is the vessel of his own sacrosanct individual belief.
Together, these provocative and humbling ideas and the social and political project they define have a name. These are classical liberalism.

Any site reliability engineers in the audience?
I took classes on Linux system administration, worked in an ops center for several years, then got a job in hardware testing. Staffing agencies keep pushing me towards jobs emphasizing hardware, which takes me away from what I feel I'm good at.
The staffing agency has training courses, it turns out, on being an SRE. I doubt I could complete it before my contract runs out -- but I'm wondering if it's a good direction for me to go.

So just a follow-up on the Panama situation:
Since the summer, the water levels of the canal have dropped to historic lows. The canal is not a straight shot, but rather a series of locks with natural lakes interspersed between. If the levels of the lakes drops too low, then freighters cannot pass through.
With this going on in the background, Panama recently granted a Canadian mining company, First Quantam, in near perpetuity. The mine is the largest single private investment in the country.
This triggered mass protests in the country. These aren't your basic gay extinction rebellion protests, these were regular people coming out en masse, because the canal is their country's reason for being. They would collapse without it and see First Quantam as gringos coming in and looting and destroying their country.
*Kenneth Darlington* wasn't a Falling Down, based boomer, he was a lawyer with the WEF, and university professor. Every frame of the shooting was crystal clear. He never even made a facial expression. He was calmly taken away by police. It almost seemed made-for-tv.
Why he did what he did is anyone's guess. The obvious answer would be destabilization and regime change, but I think the jury is still out on that.

Yeah, I don't give a fuck and nobody else does either. Nobody is going to look into the actual details of the incident. All they see is an old dude getting fed up with leftist climate protestors and plugging them. The truth is irrelevant.
Normalizing shooting leftists who block the road is a good thing, and facts don't matter.
