It gets worse. They ACITVELY TRIED TO SCAM ME AND MY SISTER. How? First, by trying to redo a purchase my sister's made on her old then expired credit card, it was denied of course, and saw her Nintendo account locked.
I called Nintendo on her behalf, and after at least an hour if not more, they literally mentioned they had no way to move the purchase to another payment method, meaning (indirectly) that they would be unable to fix the issue.
That would likely have led to possible escalation or possibly if that failed, led to potential legal demands for a refund of all games bought on the account. Fortunately, those ultimatums seemed to fix the issue, and they were somehow able to "forgive" the issue and fix the account.
What the actual fuck!?
And second, I had broken my OG Switch from 2017, and while it would turn on, the fan was basically dead and loud.
They said I could send it in to fix it, but they couldn't guarantee the save data wouldn't be lost WHEN THE CONSOLE WAS STILL BOOTABLE.
To fix it and keep my save data, which despite at the time paying for Nintendo Switch Online (since canceled after this BS), my games weren't eligible, so I had to buy a new Switch and do a transfer.
I literally wasted $349 just for a new Switch OLED just months before the Switch 2 was announced just so my data wasn't lost.
If it sounds like I'm very negative against these companies, but more so against Nintendo, that's because it's been well deserved. They literally could treat their loyal fans well and they'd be a great company, but since Iwata died, the company has just made poor decision after poor decision, often hurting their fans in the process.
I went into the Switch era a (relatively) loyal fan.
I went into the Switch 2 era a Nintendo critic, but even "critic" is an understatement.
Nintendo has become a cartel that makes Apple at its worst (around 2013 onward) look like a perfectly ethical and morally justified company, and that's REALLY saying something considering I don't like modern Apple.
I hope their console exclusivity goes the same way Sega's hardware buisness did after the Dreamcast.
Needless to say, I switched to the Steam Deck on release (now on the OLED model), and all third-party games I play are on Steam too, so screw Nintendo.
And that's before we get into the fan creation and emulation legal fuck ups Nintendo has done time and time again while their official games continue to be inconsistent at best and egotistical at worst.

Tried to login to my Netflix account and find something interesting to watch and am told I am originating from a device that is not part of my home network and am therefore denied access.

More detail: the controller advertises being self-powered in the USB descriptor and uses a separate 12V power supply. Carrying that supply is annoying me and I want to change the descriptor to the same as my 2.5 inch enclosure, which *does not* need a separate power supply. Worst case, things catch on fire I guess.
Changing the descriptor isn't magically going to make it bus-powered though, it's just a hint for the host in case it needed to do some power budgeting.
@dos How does USB power work then? Does the host limit the current or is it entirely device side? Right now I soldered a bypass wire from USB to the 12V power supply, but it doesn't really do much on its own.
There are some rules and mechanisms for budgeting in the standard, but in practice, you just get 5V on USB's VBus and that's it; the standard tells you how much power you can expect to safely draw from there in various circumstances. Descriptors are mostly to be able to tell the user that they connected too much.
Won't help you as you'd need the host to support it. I think I heard about some Asian device implementing it. Never seen one 😛
PD 1.0 used BFSK modulation over Vbus, which is completely different to USB-C's BMC over CC lines. Only the higher level protocol got reused. BFSK was still a (optional) part of USB-PD 2.0 spec which introduced USB-C support, but it got completely removed in 3.0. Wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a single PD 2.0 implementation that supported it out there.
