Karl Marx: In the social production of their existence, men inevitably enter into definite relations, which are independent of their will, namely (the) relations of production appropriate to a given stage in the development of their material forces of production. The totality of these relations of production constitutes the economic structure of society, the real foundation, on which arises a legal and political superstructure, and to which correspond definite forms of social consciousness. The mode of production of material life conditions the general process of social, political, and intellectual life. It is not the consciousness of men that determines their existence, but their social existence that determines their consciousness. At a certain stage of development, the material productive forces of society come into conflict with the existing relations of production or - this merely expresses the same thing in legal terms - with the property relations within the framework of which they have operated hitherto. From forms of development of the productive forces, these relations turn into their fetters. Then begins an era of social revolution. The changes in the economic foundation lead, sooner or later, to the transformation of the whole, immense, superstructure. In studying such transformations, it is always necessary to distinguish between the material transformation of the economic conditions of production, which can be determined with the precision of natural science, and the legal, political, religious, artistic, or philosophic - in short, ideological forms in which men become conscious of this conflict and fight it out. Just as one does not judge an individual by what he thinks about himself, so one cannot judge such a period of transformation by its consciousness, but, on the contrary, this consciousness must be explained from the contradictions of material life, from the conflict existing between the social forces of production and the relations of production. wordsmith.social/protestation/…

The SAVE Act, Which Could Stop Millions of Women From Voting, Is ‘Dead on Arrival’ in the Senate |
glamour.com/story/the-save-act…
That is, according to Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer, who compared the SAVE Act to “Jim Crow.”Stephanie McNeal (Glamour)
@gme while it has been around for a long time, a Real ID has not been required. The deadline to get a Real ID as identification for domestic flights kept getting pushed back, due to all the issues people have had. The latest deadline for that of May 7 is not anticipated to be pushed back again, so there are people scrambling to get one now.
A Real ID from most states still won’t work for voting if the SAVE Act passes. Only 4 states have an enhanced version verifying citizenship.
I appreciate your thoughts, but I believe you are misconstruing the point I was making.
Regardless whether or not a Real ID has been required, and regardless as to when the deadline to obtain a RealID for domestic airline travel is...
Neither changes my original point. Married women have had few if any problems obtaining a Real ID up until very recently. At least in the State of Georgia or Alabama since I have first-hand accounts from work colleagues in both States.
Georgia, a State I lived in for 25 years before moving from recently, has offered a Real ID for over 15 years now, and I have personal first-hand accounts from several dozen married women in my personal and professional life that had no problems obtaining their Real ID. They just had to show their birth certificate and marriage certificate.
Considering I, and my colleagues, work(ed) for an electric utility and had to regularly visit our nuclear power plants, we were all subjected to RealID long before the TSA.
You just never heard of the kinds of problems married women are now suddenly starting to experience prior to very recently.
That was my point.
Something has changed recently. Whether it was the SAVE Act or not, something has changed.
In any event, I'm not looking for a fight, debate, or to argue. I value your thoughts and insight on this matter, and appreciate you sharing them with me.
@gme oh, I’ve actually heard about a lot of difficulties in getting the Real ID over the years and I had issues myself. They kept postponing the date because of people complaining about having difficulties. With the large number of people suddenly trying to apply now, that may be why it sounds like there are extra issues now, but the issues were always there. I heard an account where someone had tried before and gave up, she is having difficulty again. Real IDs are state issued.
Can't speak for other States but every Driver's License since 2012 the State of Georgia has issued has been RealID compliant.
RealID is not just used by the TSA. For a long time now it's been required to enter Federal Buildings, and as I mentioned earlier to gain access any Nuclear facility. I know I had a RealID from Georgia since around 2008.
In fact when I went to get my South Dakota drivers' license even though I had brought my Passport, Birth Certificate, SS card, and a bunch of other documents with me the lady at the DMV office in Rapid City told me she didn't need to see any of the documents I brought since my Georgia license was already a RealID.
South Dakota gave me another RealID SD Drivers' License.
Maybe Georgia just had its shit together (and Alabama) who knows. Or maybe Georgians are just special. Who knows.
But what was crazy to me was when I went to get my New Mexico license last year they gave me an option to get one with Real ID and one without (and the one without was cheaper by a little bit).
I remember thinking you'd have to be a fool to not get a RealID license now/ then (late 2024) especially with the deadlines and shit. But I guess if you have no plans to ever enter a Federal Building or nuclear facility or plan to fly then I guess you might opt for the non-Real ID license.
Anyways, appreciate the discussion.
@gme it’s similar to survivorship bias. It was easy for you, so you think something has changed. The regulations haven’t changed, but most people who it was easier for have gotten Real IDs already. Those left are the people who have extra difficulties. These are legitimate issues that the regulations do not address because the entire point was to make it more difficult to obtain an ID. They know it disproportionately affects BIPOC and low income, it’s a form of voter suppression too

Can Linux work the light up keyboard? ( I game in the dark lot.

Last what would be the best noob friendly distro to use. Haven't played with Linux in 10 years and really don't have time to tinker now
MSI Sword 15 here, with Intel + Nvidia, In my personal experience is runs almost without issues using Manjaro as a Distro (have not tried other distros on this specific machine).
Your experience could be different depending on your specific laptop model and how recent it is.
Keyboard lighting and fan on/off works without issues, the only 'Fn' key that does not work apart from the one for MSI windows software is the one to block the trackpad (and I just configured another keyboard shortcut for it).
~~Using Wayland, I can not use an external monitor connected to the HDMI port on the Nvidia card (No idea if it is fixable now, haven't looked on it recently), but with Xorg I can run an external monitor in the HDMI port and extra ones with a dongle on the USB-C (so far tried with 3 without issues)~~ Edit: I can use multiple monitors without issues on Wayland as of my last test.
Friendly distros recommended these days as far as I know are Mint and Zorin if looking for something Ubuntu or Debian Based, Apart from that there is Fedora or Arch based distros but may need a bit more knowledge and getting used to.

I'm going to get blowback for this post on X:
Stop saying "guys" when you are addressing people; its unisex usage undermines the word "men", and its application to only MEN. "Guys" formerly was a term for "men" only, but now it is used indiscriminately, when addressing both sexes.
And, I am sorry to say, because I have heard it used by those with a large media presence, it sounds really dopey. Stop it, now.

Looking at Debian's release-critical bugs, you can see that Trixie is close:
Testing now has fewer critical bugs than Stable, and the number is dropping quickly.
About 200 bugs still need to be fixed to get the number down to where the previous releases were done.
Maybe you can help? Bugs blocking the next release can be as simple as missing translations for the upgrade instructions.
Trust me, at that point there won't be any explaining possible 😁
We've been burned by a lot of distros in the past and right now it all boils down to using Debian and RHEL, everything else mostly failed at some point or will not uphold the stability guarantees. The Al-Qassam Brigades released a statement providing a detailed account of the ambush that targeted Zionist forces in Rafah on Saturday, at the height of the regime’s genocidal war on Gaza.
Al-Qassam Brigades said that their fighters successfully drew an engineering unit toward a tunnel entrance that had been pre-rigged with explosives. The operation began with direct engagement, during which the fighters killed several members of the unit at point-blank range.
The Palestinian Resistance group said that as additional Zionist soldiers moved closer to the tunnel, their fighters triggered the explosives, causing significant casualties among the troops, including deaths and injuries, before engaging two tanks with al-Yassin 105 shells in a follow-up attack.
They stated that their fighters monitored Zionist forces attempting to retrieve casualties from the ambush site located east of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, observing the evacuation efforts in the aftermath of the attack.
Al-Qassam Brigades announced that on Saturday, their fighters activated an anti-personnel explosive device targeting a six-soldier Zionist infantry unit near Al-Zahraa Mosque in Al-Janina neighborhood, east of Rafah city in the southern Gaza Strip, resulting in enemy casualties.
The occupation military confirmed on Sunday that two soldiers, including an officer, had been killed and that several others had been wounded as confrontations continued in the Gaza Strip.
The Zionist occupation forces’ spokesperson stated that an officer from the elite Yahalom combat engineering unit had been killed during clashes in the southern part of the besieged Gaza Strip and that another soldier from the same unit had also been killed in the same area.
The incident, described by Zionist outlets as “difficult,” occurred as a Golani Brigade force operating under the 36th Division was combing a building and discovered the tunnel entrance. At some point during the operation, an explosive, previously undetected, detonated, leading to the fatalities.
The occupation forces reported that in the same encounter, another soldier from the Yahalom unit had sustained critical injuries, while separately, a reserve soldier from the 7007 Battalion of the Jerusalem [Al-Quds] (16th) Brigade had also been critically wounded during clashes in northern Gaza on Saturday.
