Just one of a gazillion reasons why collecting data on people to sell is wrong: Data broker giant LexisNexis says breach exposed personal information of over 364,000 people | TechCrunch techcrunch.com/2025/05/28/data…

I'm delighted to have a trans/NB theatre project I'm involved with criticised by GB News, I couldn't possibly be involved in something they endorse.
Being criticised by the Telegraph (describing the production as "woke") is also very pleasing.

The Senate Intelligence Committee has deleted from its website its 2020 report on Russian interference in the 2016 election and Russian cooperation with the Trump campaign. It was by far the most comprehensive document detailing the Russian intelligence operations of 2016. The report was accessible as recently as May 10.

With new COVID-19 variants looming and renewed attacks on vaccines, masks, and other basic preventative measures, I just want to mention that:

- I still routinely mask up in crowded or poorly ventilated spaces. I mask on planes and trains. I teach with my mask on.

- I test any time I'm feeling under the weather.

- I plan to get the updated vaccine.

I'd *prefer* not to do any of this, but at worst, it's in the "mild inconvenience" category, and far preferable to long-term disability.

in reply to Matt Blaze

Same on all counts. The other advantage is that I *rarely* get a cold or any other related airborne illness. I've thrown out cold meds purchase pre-lockdown that simply never got used and expired. On that count alone I will always mask up.

I've been confronted a couple of times about it when out and about where I was informed I didn't have to mask up anymore, and I'd start talking about how The Man was monitoring everything and no way was I going to allow The Man and his AI to catch me on video. In other words, I acted like a nutjob and the questioning party quickly shut the hell up. They couldn't see the huge smile under my mask - very self-entertaining.

A new Maui project release is out! And this time it comes with a lot of goodies for desktop based users, but still great for mobile and tablets

Just found out the July 2025 edition of Linux Journal, which is out now, will be its last after 25 years of raising and maintaining awareness about Linux among beginners and experienced users alike.

Even though I haven't been a subscriber since the then staff left and eventually went on to start their own magazine, I am saddened to see it go.

They will surely be missed.

The Blowtorch Theory: A new model for structure formation in the universe

„Retention of data by service providers for criminal proceedings“

Hier kann man bis zum 18. Juni 2025 Feedback abgeben: Have Your Say

Was ist geplant?

Lobbyismus deluxe.

Was kann man tun?

Einfach Feedback abgeben, geht in 2 Minuten.

FunOS - Have any of you used this

Is this a decent OS to move users off Win too that I won't have to do a lot of remote maintenance on? I have a few varied OS's installed on machines around and Cinnamon I have found to look/feel a lot like Windows 7 which would benefit the learning curve for family/friends looking or needing to find an OS to install on a machine that isn't newer.

Curious if anyone has used this, and if so if it is a good fit for those 60+ aged family members and such. They have all used Windows for work at least a decent amount, so keeping things similar is always good. A decent App Store would be nice though. I hated the default store in Pop_OS.

If I could say do updates and reboot every once in awhile and you should be fine it'd be great. Remoting in with RustDesk and hitting App Update/Upgrade being all that is needed also would be great, but you know how that goes. Someone will break something, and I just want something intuitive enough that they won't do it often.

For the past two weeks, I’ve been testing Sky, the new app by the original Shortcuts team.

It’s a mind-blowing app that brings AI + automation everywhere on your Mac. Coming later this year. It’ll change how we think of AI features on macOS.

Bonne continuations amis

"My brother was killed in Vietnam on May 24 1968. I would give anything to have had the chance to hear his voice. This family is so fortunate and have been given a great gift. I had recently read about Captain Pitts and I am glad to have found this video. He seems to be a very brave and caring man. Prayers for his family."

@monarchist

During the Vietnam War, many in political office including the Military Industrial Complex were as evil as the Communists. Research the ROE in Nam instituted by LBJ & McNamara to discover how many military patriots were killed & maimed by our own people in government & corporations. Then look at the repercussions of Agent Orange that is destroying lives to this day. What Corps profited from killing our own troops in Nam??

I just picked up my CPAP machine today.

And of course it’s internet enabled.

Even has its own SIM card and was already transmitting data while learning how to set it up at the home care office.

I don’t mind if it collected stats on me.

I don’t mind if it sent it to my doctor.

But, from what I understand, it’s also sending data to my insurance company.

That is a bridge too far, but I need the damn thing to survive.

FUCK CAPITALISM!

in reply to Marcus "MajorLinux" Summers

Pull the SIM out and tape it to the inside wall of a mug with water in it and put it in the microwave for 60 seconds. Let it dry. Then put it back in. Should be no more data transmitted after that. Taped to the inner wall to guarantee it gets exposed to as much high frequency electromagnetic radiation in the microwave. Water to absorb some of the radiation and to prevent any "fires" if the SIM combusts.
