Then, thanks to the libs and the shithole that Philadelphia has become, we had a storage container (solid steel, and chained to a concrete anchor with very thick chain), containing 13k worth of supplies and equipment, stolen from a job site. The whole container (about 1200 lbs). And we were not the contractor hardest hit, the plumbing guys and the electricians got hammered worse. They must have used a semi.

I want to move out from Ubuntu and use something else.

I didn't intentionally pick Ubuntu, my pc went shit and I needed to install some os and the only one I had available in a usb was Ubuntu noble.

Laptop specs: I think a 7th gen inter i5, 8 GBs of ram and (the issue) a 125 GB M2.Sata SSD

I'm not really going to play games on it, it's one of those weird laptops that folds and can use a stylus.

So what would you suggest for something light in size and good with a stylus.

Recently install Fedora 42 KDE on one of those weird laptops with a pen - everything just works, no tinkering.
Looking at your specs - I have almost the same config, except in place of SATA SSD I installed a NVMe SSD, if course the laptop needs to support that. KDE Plasma is superior in the touch support, although the screen keyboard is a little buggy at times. But the situation in the GNOME ecosystem is a bit worse for touch/pen devices. Good luck

The landscape is constantly changing. Global and domestic developments constantly bring us before the lens of war, filling us with fear and uncertainty. Redistribution of wealth, “neighboring” wars, inflation and so many other words that constantly pound our minds in daily news headlines. Nothing can remind us of the golden decades of yesterday while the future looks bleak. Greece, through its strategic geopolitical position, is not absent from the sphere of global developments. As a member country of N.A.T.O it serves its part for the great powers, while at the same time, trying to combat “domestic enemies”, it tightens its repressive measures.

In recent years, we have observed an extreme form of escalation of the arrogant violence of the state and its institutions. One political scandal follows another, while the state-parastate connection is more evident than ever. The cost of political responsibility is an illusory dream of the past, as everything is unfolding before our eyes. Trafficking circuits, pedophile circuits, illicit construction deals, natural disasters that reveal corruption in infrastructure projects, privatization of state wealth, photographic laws for the persecution of activists and so much more that weave the web of a deep state, which is intertwined in all its individual parts and creates a mafia state.

The biggest and most blatant example of the above is the Tempi case. A case that demonstrated the privatizations to foreign capitalists, the connection of the state with organized crime, the recruitment of their people in key positions, placing on Greek society the responsibility for its long silence regarding the death of 57 people.

All of the above could not be carried out without the existence of the Greek police. A master key to open all doors. Everywhere there is a cop willing to serve the free flow between state and parastate, with his compensation of course. While the state provides them with absolute safety. Even in blatant cases (executions of Roma, shipwreck of Pilos, femicides outside police stations), the cops’ hands are washed clean of blood overnight, giving them the right to roam undisturbed. They plow our cities like sheriffs, militarize our neighborhoods, trying to take back the breaths of freedom we won through the big mobilizations, they attack anyone who struggles and does not express their submissive model.

They are always the ones who will suppress popular anger and protect their bosses by exhausting all the violence they are allowed to use on us. They are the armed human fence that protects our enemies, therefore the first to be targeted and the first to be passed over. And this is because our hatred is a boiling cauldron and is ready to spill everywhere like lava that will burn everything in its path, starting from the boots that block our way to the total destruction of the state apparatus.

For our part, fighting in the social and class war, which is being waged outside the screens of televisions and mobile phones, we must more than ever take up positions of battle with all means, against the state and its institutions. As long as the repressive mechanism shows us its teeth, we know that behind it lies fear, since they know that at any moment the doctrine of law and order can collapse and their social “peace” can be broken. Following the path carved by our comrades who perished by choosing the way of fire, let us also create small cracks in their fragile system, opening paths for our anger to pour out, returning to them a piece of the violence we receive daily.

Fear, then, changes camp. In the early hours of 15/04, we placed an incendiary device at the entrance of the apartment building at 15 Kanari Street in Sykies, where the uniformed scoundrel Konstantinos Gantatsios lives, who serves in the YAT team (at a platoon of the riot police). If you have the illusion that you are invulnerable, remember that the city is small.

Journey to Irene -- I'm back on Perchance, testing with trial and error. It's taking forever, and not just because it's generating much slower. I'm getting closer, but there's still something slightly off.

TFM can tell when A.I. art doesn't look like Celestina, even though the rest of us think it might be spot-on. I feel the same about Irene. There's a certain "something" that passes or fails the whole thing. In this case it's the eyes that need tweaking. What a pain this new version is.

Unix was developed in the mid 1960s by Bell Labs, and it was a single task system written in Assembly, before it moved to C.

It still exists today, mainly in Solaris, previously owned by Sun, but now by Oracle, and others less ran options. These systems were born out of the open source code that was published before Unix became commercial.

Apart from BSD, most other Unix systems are now proprietary and generally limited to industry, finance or health related activities. They're also generally sold with the hardware they run on.

You probably all know that Linux was developed by Linus Torvalds while he was a student in Helsinki. He enjoyed Unix but at that point, the system had become proprietary, and so couldn't be tailored to his needs. As a pet project, he created his own kernel that was basically a Minix clone, itself a Unix clone, which Torvalds wanted to modify to run on 32 bit systems.

Interestingly, while Linux doesnt share any code with Unix, the kernel absolutely behaves like Unix. Linux is also POSIX compliant. POSIX being a standard that was created because so many Unix variants were popping up, that is was necessary to ensure they all worked in a similar way and were compatible with each other.

And you might wonder how a hobby project developed as open source managed to replace a commercial, company backed, already installed system. And the reasons are many.

At first, Unix couldn't be commercialized as a product, because AT&T had entered an agreement with the US government stating they wouldn't try and sell computer software. That meant Unix was sold for the cost of shipping and printing the tapes

You received the source code as-is and patching options were limited, which meant most people who bought Unix bought it to maintain it and fix it themselves, which led to many companies creating their own versions of Unix and sharing the source code with one another.

The agreement ended, though, and this meant AT&T could start selling Unix as a product, as could other companies. With the ability to commercialize Unix came a huge competitive battle, with each company now realizing there was money to be made, and stopping the flow of source code. Every unix version started to diverge from each other and to behave differently, which killed one of the big advantages of Unix.

ALl these sytems and competition is referred to as the Unix wars.

Also at that point, personal computers were really starting to take off, and Microsoft dominated that space with Windows.

Unix also was really only a way to sell computers that ran on RISC chips. At the time, Intel's x86 was a very limited architecture, had poor performance compared to RISC CPUs, and was only suitable to be produced en masse cheaply for the end user.

But with these sales, Intel, and then AMD were able to fund the development of better chips, which in turn outgrew the RISC chips that Unix depended on to be sold.

But why Linux and not BSD? BSD had existed for longer, it was a known quantity, and it worked in the same way as what companies were used to.

The gist of it is legal battles. BSD was slowly moving away from code used in the original SYSTEM V, which AT&T held the rights to. AT&T then sued Berkeley Software Design, arguing they had breached Unix's license contract, that their code infringed on copyright, and that it diluted the UNIX trademark.

With this lawsuit, BSD was prevented from distributing the Net/2 release until the case was decided, which basically stopped them in their tracks.
