The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) had to use less precise methods to estimate price changes for the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in April due to staffing shortages.
The concerns around the accuracy of U.S. inflation data follow other issues with government statistics in recent months, including the suspension of hundreds of data series and the application of incorrect sample weights to the unemployment rate survey.
