And I'm now wondering if the "proThreads" federations folks (like him) will have the humility to acknowledge that…the "no Threads " folks

1) - knew- this is how Meta would behave three years ago.

2) and were right?

I dunno.

But yeah, unfortunately, folks like me who have been anti huge corps are pretty consistently correct in our assessments

@violetmadder @melanie re: learned vs innate, sure humans can/do have different tendencies, but humans are always going to be -profoundly- shaped by our environments: from language and social norms around what a person assigned fe/male is supposed to be like, to gawds, occupations, what is a good life etc..

So for me, examining and striving to create healthier social constructs is always going to be a great use of time/effort- even if it doesn't affect the actions/growth of everyone.

And if you’d like some history/ context, here are some of the bits. I’ll note that this was written AFTER 10/7, when we Jews were all still reeling, and BEFORE the anticipated ground invasion of Gaza (but we all knew from the start that there would be horrors, if not on this scale.)

a lot of things are true.

NATO Is Rife with Corruption - by Pascal Clérotte

#geopolitics #imperialism #war

Every single external operation NATO has undertaken, in breach of its defensive alliance mandate, has ended in failure. The 1999 bombing of Serbia and the independence of Kosovo remain a costly disaster 25 years later. The ISAF mission in Afghanistan ended in defeat against insurgents wearing sandals and shalwar kameez. And, the cherry on the more-than-a-million pile of bodies and ruined European economies, the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Like other unchecked bureaucracies, such as the UN and the European Commission, NATO pursues its own goals. Its primary focus is expanding its influence and power. As a supranational organization, it escapes accountability.

Evidence now shows NATO is deeply corrupt.

eclaireur.eu/p/nato-is-plagued…

"An international coalition composed of labor unions, solidarity movements, and human rights organizations from over 50 countries has announced the launch of an initiative to enter the Gaza Strip by foot. Thousands of international volunteers will partake in a large-scale mobilization from Cairo to the Rafah crossing in order to demand an end to Israel’s blockade of the Gaza Strip and to shed light on the catastrophic conditions endured by Gaza’s residents amid famine and relentless bombardment.

Called the “Global March to Gaza”, the campaign marks a significant moment in the international solidarity movement with Palestine. The key objectives outlined by the organizers of the global march are to end the famine in Gaza, facilitate the entry of thousands of aid trucks stalled for months at the Rafah crossing, establish a stable and permanent humanitarian corridor, expose Israel’s crimes, and demand accountability for those responsible.

The thousands of participants hailing from trade unions, rights groups, medical sectors, and civil society have united with a clear message: international silence in the face of Israel’s genocide against the people of Gaza is complicity and the people of the world demand action. For the last 20 months, as Israel has carried out its genocide against the people of Gaza, millions of people across the world have mobilized in support of the Palestinian people and to demand an end to Israel’s crimes, marking a historic upsurge in the movement for Palestine across the world."

"Among the first to depart was the Algerian 'Caravan of Steadfastness', which left Algiers on Sunday en route to Tunisia to join the Tunisian convoy, before continuing through Libya and Egypt toward Rafah.

"The caravan has set off toward Tunisia and will join with others on the journey to Gaza through Rafah," Yahya Saree, head of the Algerian Initiative to Support Palestine and Aid Gaza, said in a statement.

Saree, a senior member of the Algerian Association of Muslim Scholars, emphasised the humanitarian nature of the initiative, saying it sought to raise the voice of the free world to break the "brutal siege" on Gaza.

He described the move as an expression of Algeria's longstanding support for Palestine and its calls on international platforms to protect civilians from Israel's assault."

There are currently three interconnected movements occurring at the same time. And they're all headed for Gaza.

Sumud - the overland convoy to break the siege on Gaza started in Tunisia - a few says ago, volunteers from Algiers, Morocco and Tunisia formed a convoy of 100s of buses and cars. They've been cheered by thousands of onlookers as they travel towards Egypt, with more and more people joining them along the way.

March to Gaza - thousands of people are currently flying to Cairo, from over fifty nations. There, they'll meet up with the Sumud convoy. And everyone will walk across the desert to the Rafah crossing.

Freedom Flotilla Coalition - more ships are being prepared to sail to the Gaza coast.

It is being used to faciliatate the genocide of Palestinians, by I CE to enable them to abduct our people, and surveil every single person in the Imperial Core across all platforms and movement to track our biometrics, financial and social credit, behavior, and privacy.

The GNU project was started by Richard Stallman all the way back in 1985, with the main goal of promoting free software, and providing an alternative to proprietary software, that was spreading like wildfire. While GNU was on point for the operating system related tools, they definitely did not manage to make a good kernel. GNU needed a kernel, Linux needed some tools to use that kernel, so it was a match made in heaven.

Slackware isn't the very first Linux distribution that was created, that honor goes to an unnamed one, distributed on 2 floppies by HJ Lu. But Slackware is the distro that put Linux on the radar for people who were tired of Unix.

UNIX WARS video:

Slackware was the first credible alternative to using one of the Unixes on a server, and people noticed. It was stable, reliable, and it followed the Unix principles closely.

Ok, now, something you might not know about: Yggdrasil Linux. It was another Linux distro, with its first alpha version released at the very end of 1992, and what makes it special, is the fact that it was the first to bring a Live CD to Linux.

We also have to talk about X.org. This thing is what powered the graphical part of Linux, the visual elements you can interact with, for most of its existence, and it's still used by millions today, even though Wayland is absolutely usable these days.

Without XFree86 or X.org as it became to be known, Linux as we know it would probably not exist.

Now, we also have Red hat, and SUSE: they were the first commercial Linux distributions that proved that yes, you could combine open source and making money, and yes, Linux could be a successful product.

On the other side of the fence is Debian, an old distribution dating from 1993 and that of course still exists today. And it's NOT a commercial entity, even today, all while being a big name in the Linux world.

Debian's contribution to Linux is the living embodiement of the principles of open source, free software, and the community.

And speaking of Ubuntu, it might not be the paragon of the Linux desktop it once was, but when it was introduced, it was a small revolution. It was a Linux distribution for everyone, not for computer enthusiasts.

Ubuntu showed that Linux COULD be for everyone, when most other distributions never really targeted the general public, or never really focused on the user experience.

Another hugely influential project that made Linux wonderful is Wine. Wine is the compatibility layer that lets you run Windows programs on Linux. Wine is a very important project, because without it, Proton wouldn't exist, gaming on Linux virtually wouldn't exist either, and the Steam Deck would never have been a success, or maybe even worked on.

While much data suggests ~1/4 of Israeli Jews support a 2-state solution these days, it also suggests that rises to ~60% if a future Palestinian state agrees to combat "incitement against Israel" in textbooks. This rises slightly if a similar policy will apply to Israel. Note the ~1/5 of the Israeli population that's Arab overwhelmingly supports it, so in reality those numbers are even better. So if it doesn't take much to get Israelis to agree to 2 states, why is the US giving up?
