This is the view from Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota today. The green of the vegetation goes well with the reds, whites, and tans of the exposed landforms. Above, a mostly blue sky with some lines of puffy white clouds. The details seem finely etched with black though this is perhaps just the angle of the sun or the aspect of the slopes or my eyes playing tricks on me.

Plex has paywalled my server!

I tried testing a movie from my home server in plex through firefox and repeatedly got this message, even after reloading.

I knew that they had paywalled the apps on mobile and streaming from outside the network but now they have also blocked watching your own movies through your own hardware.

I do get the point that making software should be able to sustain people but I dont see the move of plex as a fair thing to do. Yes, they have made great software but taking your home server hostage feels like the wrong move.

Even a pop up that says "we need you to donate please" would have been fine. make it pop up before every movie, play donation ads before any movie but straight up disabling the app is kinda cruel.

Anyway, i have switched to jellyfin and it is insanely good. please give it a try. you can run it alongside plex with not issues (at least i had none) and compare the two.

In any case, good luck. Let me know if you need help.

I started down the Jellyfin path after they made that announcement. It's super easy to install, and in many ways the UI is nicer than Plex. But I ran into challenges getting my server safely accessible for users outside my LAN. And I haven't had the time to look into that further.

Would be great if there was a clean, easy way to set up the webserver portion so it's as easy to share content entirely as Plex. But I get they are a volunteer project with a lot on their plate.

The latest Capitol incursion — which, to be fair, wasn’t exactly on the same scale, but operated on the same principle, and put the Capitol Police in a dire situation which the left swore they’d never put them in — occurred Friday as vets protested in Washington, D.C., ahead of Saturday’s military parade.

The group was focused on the recent deployment of the National Guard and the Marines to Los Angeles as the city was rocked by riots in regards to ICE raids.

“A group of military veterans and their families gathered in front of the Supreme Court, demanding that taxpayer dollars for Saturday’s military parade and for putting troops in Los Angeles should be used for housing, health care and food, instead,” WRC-TV in Washington reported.

“Some of those demonstrators crossed the street to the U.S. Capitol, where they are accused of breaching a bicycle rack perimeter. Some of them also may face charges of assault on police officers and resisting arrest,” WRC’s report continued, noting that one of those arrested “was a Vietnam vet who was using a walker.”

US federal law, under 18 U.S.C. §2383, defines insurrection as an organized, violent uprising against the authority of the United States or its laws. It is not mere protest. It is not riot, per se. It is a purposeful, coordinated attempt to defy or subvert the enforcement of federal law and thereby replace it with an alternative order, even if only temporarily. By that standard, it is the ongoing 'No Kings' uprising, not the chaotic riot on January 6, 2021, that most closely fits the definition. The term has been stretched beyond recognition by partisan usage, but if we restore legal precision, the evidence leads us to a counterintuitive conclusion: the true insurrection is unfolding not in hours but in weeks, not in the halls of Congress but in the streets of Los Angeles, Seattle, New York, Newark, and 200 other American cities.

Begin with January 6. That day has been declared an "insurrection" by countless media outlets and politicians, but few have paused to consider whether it fits the legal or historical definitions. What occurred was a riot, prompted by frustration, compounded by poor security, and intensified by a combustible mix of rhetoric and confusion. But a riot is not an insurrection. The FBI has stated repeatedly that it found "scant evidence" of a centrally coordinated plan to overthrow the government. The breach of the Capitol was disgraceful, but by nightfall the constitutional order resumed. Congress certified the election. Access homeserver through VPN + route traffic with mullvad?

First: I've tried Tailscale, for some reason it works awful for me so I'm avoiding that option if possible.

I am trying to have a single server that has a VPN port exposed to connect to it, but routes traffic through a comercial VPN (mullvad ideally) to privately share my linux ISOs. So far I haven't been able to achieve this, it sees I can't use the VPN server (wg-easy) + VPN (mullvad gui), only the one that start first work.

Has anybody achieve something like this?

@oAnth it's a blog. The guys has been writing about the global capitalist empire for years, and many books too. So he's not required to start over from the beginning every time for those that weren't there. Plus frankly, we know them. When a French politician says bluntly "I feel more at home in NYC or Berlin than in Picardy" you get it. I need some high level guidance on UDEV rule for an HIDAPI driver

Like a lot of Chinese devices, my TEMPer clone creates two HID interfaces. This isn't how TEMPer is supposed to work but this unit is a knock-off. It was purchsed from Amazon and I tried to get an authentic part (Got from Amazon. The brand looked right and it wasn't the cheapest TEMPer, by far, but turned out to be a junky knock-off).

Right now, the app only works with root permission. I need to get it completely into the user space

Anyway, it creates two HIDRAW dev interfaces. The first one does not work. It responds on the second one. It always seems to show up on /dev/hidraw3 but I understand this cannot be counted on after re-plug, reboot, or other installs.

How can I create a udev rule that will allow my app to find the device (either scan with HIDAPI or libusb) and create symlink under /dev with user space access that my app can interface with?

Or, perhaps there is a better way?

I'm trying to write a driver that anyone can use with a knock-off TEMPer.
