The fight against the destruction of surplus product and against hoarding in Brazil cannot be carried out through the state, but through consumer cooperatives, which affiliated with powerful federations, will be able to deliver to the market and finance production and regulate prices on a fair basis.

Sure, maybe Peter was? But that doesn't make him "special" either. He was a tool to perform a task. No one in the kingdom of heaven is greater than anyone else. All of Gods children are Saints. All are equal. This idea of "greatness" is an wholly human feature.

Petros refers to a "rock or stone" something that an English speaker might say when referring to something that you could pick up. This is in contrast to something like bedrock, or a mountain, or even a large bolder, which you cannot.
The catholic view is that God was calling Peter the "bedrock" or foundation of His "church" which is not true.

I understand it doesn't mean only Peter has it, but it sounds an awful lot like the rest of the disciples are also there and He doesn't reference them specifically
IRGC Commander Xenophon
in reply to d0c40r0 • • •He does reference them in verse 20. He doesn't reference them in verse 19 because the entire exchange is 3 fucking sentences and the bible isn't a transcript of entire conversations. He references Peter in verse 19 because he was specifically speaking to Peter.
The catholic view has to be along the lines of
>Jesus asks a question, 2 sentences later Peter gives the correct answer, so Jesus rewards Peter with the ultimate prize and not the other 11.
It's juvenile, but also contradictory to the entirety of the rest of scripture, and isn't even what the sentence is actually saying. As the AI image i posted says, Petros is not a foundation. Peter is Petros. He is a stone. He is one among many. He WAS tasked with proselytizing which perfectly tracts with the context of verse 19, but in no way should this be read to say Peter is the foundation (serious heresy against Jesus) or that he was the only one given this special power. This is an inference by men who had a vested interest in propagating their views.
d0c40r0
in reply to IRGC Commander Xenophon • • •Pretty sure God knew Peter would get it right before He even asked the question (considering He knew about His death, the denials, et cetera) and it was just to further prove the validity of Christ and His Church
Also it's not a heresy against Jesus to say that Peter is the foundation on which the new Church is to be built upon after Jesus is no longer physically on Earth -- foundation doesn't mean "guy you worship" it means "main support and what everything else has the ability to grow upon"

But God is calling Simon a stone.

Grammatically, this would make Jesus autistic/retarded. he knows he is Peter.
>18 And I tell you, that you are a stone, and on this bed rock I will build my "congregation", and the powers of death shall not prevail against it.

-----
You know how we, in English, say a "flood" of people? In Koine Greek (both within and outside of scripture) a gatherings of people are sometimes called "clouds."
An example from scripture would be how Christ's second coming is described as being "with the clouds of heaven" in some verses and "with His tens of thousands" in another about the same event (within any version). (Some versions lean full on with the actual idea of physical clouds and say "on" the clouds but still say "with" His tens of thousands in the other verse, but the "on" is not there.)
Anyway, the idea ties with the Koine Greek way of saying that you and I are "in the air" (which is not to say in the 'ouranos', the 'heavens'), and this is the same as what we, in English, would call "on the earth." (Wave your arms. Feel the air? You are in the air, but not the "sky." So "in the air" people might gather into "clouds.")
That's the meaning too of the "prince of the authority of the *air* " in Ephesians 2:2--it's the "prince of the authority of *here* " in our way of speaking.
A cool thing to find. 🤷

Well yes, I actually do (because I probably am, at least smarter than a good 99.99% of them), but people refuse to accept that I have so much more information at my fingertips than they could dream of. Translations are based on THEIR understanding of language at the time they translated, and what they FELT fit the meaning the best, not on what the words ACTUALLY meant. Take John 3 where Jesus says you must be born from above, not born again, as just one simple example.

>Are you denying that Christ is God or are you saying that the Bible is lying when it calls Mary His mother?
They are being disingenuous. It's jewish pilpul.
>Well aksually, Mary gave birth, so so she is Jesus's mother, but since Jesus is God, that means she is the mother of God, so you see she is really special because God wouldn't exist without...
blah blah blah.
I grow tired of pseudo-intellectual nonsense, especially when it fails to understand the simple concepts the Bible is trying to convey. Luke 3:38 is there to explain what "son of God" means. Jesus IS God. He is not a separate entity, or a "part" of God. God is One, and Jesus is Him.

The entire point of Revelation, and Daniel, and Isaiah and Jeramiah etc where it talks about anything having to do with "end times" is that we still all got it wrong, so Jesus finally returns to save us for good. Jesus's first coming was about redeeming His chosen, not about fixing all of our problems.
From my point of view, you're saying something like
>to debate whether or not Hitler was evil, you first have to admit that he tried to systemically eradicate all jews and did kill 6 million of them.

Meanwhile I can quote Jer 30:30/Heb 8:8 until I'm blue in the face and people will deny that the new covenant is only for the biological children of Israel. And that Israel was a living person, not a country, and not "jews."
