2) I use power cycles rather regularly. As an example, 1:2 buckwheat groats : water for 10 minutes at 50% power works well. Then again, I also read car owners manuals, so I’m an outlier.

OK, but hear me out...my beef with microwaves is how the rotations are never aligned with 0:30 intervals, so when you put a mug in the microwave, the handle is never where you need it to be to grab it when it's done.
