I noticed memes expressing a common attitude that a discussion is to be "won", like who "wins" a discussion and how to. Although I think debates are to exchange views, just to know what kind of views are existing.
Should I explain though? I don't know what @unmittelbar had in mind. But as to what the guy in the video says, it's about different people talking with each other, with their different views. But that's become a bit rare here, I think. People don't listen but broadcast and propagate. Maybe like that?

I listen to religious people, because they express symbolic wisdom which is soothing for the religiously evolved brains of humans: for the sake of emotions and in case there is a deeper significance to symbols.
I also listen to atheists, because they often focus on real-world problems, which informs me about worldly concerns. In short, atheists often know better where the problems are, but also usually blame religions or stupidity for the problems. I think religious symbols help people with emotional issues, and so I benefit from listening to both sides...what you misinterpret as dictatorial will is really the attempt to remind people that underneath our activity is a powerful source-consciousness which helps us find the paths of best fit, and that these paths are for more than just individuals since they come from the same source. Meditation offers a way to access this by resolving to remain still, dissolving our minds for a time and letting everything go. Religious people do something similar so often, they are rightly criticised as abiding the terrorism of the present society in manufactured bliss. However consumers and atheists do it too, they just melt themselves further and further into their own minds, rather than into the symbolic layer which exists over the source consciousness. The ability of any language-speaking nation-like group of people to become the people of world depends (1) on them conforming to the prior three qualities and (2) on their accessibility as a culture for other peoples to become one with.
(1) is the coincident simultaneous culture along the necessary spheres of life: otherwise we would have nothing but our values and beliefs to transcend to: a marketplace of ideas depends on a currency of attention, full of paupers begging for nihilism, and no chance of fostering the foundation for ideas to grow.
(2) nothing accessible. Today we are at the mercy of ill-defined intellectual values like selflessness as "selflness-less" or "common humanity" as "come-on humanity!" I am planning a great celebration service for my mom and a luncheon afterwards with all of her favorite foods.
There are family tensions a-brewing, so I ask you to keep me in prayer. My brother did not want to have a service in DC, he wants it to be in Texas. He is very angry that I'm moving forward with my DC plans.

My relationship with my brother has been acrimonious at best for over 40 years. This bruhaha over our mom's memorial service is just the latest iteration.
My mother wanted my brother to be close to her, and she treated him as if they were. She always was prone to fantasize about how good a son he is. I am a realist. That's partially why a great deal of the problems between us were about the inconsiderate way he's treated our mother since we were kids. He hates that I don't see him her way.
He was never there for her during any of the hospitalizations and surgeries that resulted from her health issues-- lobectomty, triple by-pass, DVTs, diabetes, stroke, and finally pancreatic cancer.
I admit I've struggled with contempt over the years and even --jealousy?‐‐ as my mother continued to overlook his obvious disengagement and long for his visits.
I moved to TX, in part, so my mom could be closer to him. He never made an effort to come to DC. That worked, but it took a toll on me.
I'm not a glutton for punishment and I won't tolerate abuse from anyone. I avoid my brother because he has the personality of a meat-ax and is like a bull in a china shop. I wouldn't have him in my life at all, if my mother didn't live with me. He is the only person Hattori has bitten in defense of me.
I only was around him these past 4 years for my mother's sake, and every occasion was hard.
I understand my mom's longings because I'm a mom too and my relationship with my daughter sucks.
With that understanding, I've tried to be compassionate and think of her, not myself. He's been in my house only because of that. I don't like him and tolerated him only because of our mother.
Because those rules still apply, even after mom's death, I hope that he will come to the memorial service because our mom would have wanted him there.
I think he's trying to cause a family fight because it would be a convenient way to excuse why he didn't attend. So, I won't let him pull me into one.
I am praying that we will have a good service that honors mom and that somehow my brother will attend.
After that, I am free from my obligations to my mom and I will put up my boundaries again.
My friends have always been more my real family than my own. In my book, family is as family does.

Today the UN is commemorating its 80th anniversary. I worked on the inside for 32 of those years. The UN was founded in reaction to a violent regime that, driven by a supremacist ideology, was committing aggression against its neighbors, occupying the territory of others, and perpetrating a genocide.
The inevitable result of Israeli state policy was the escalation of peaceful resistance as seen in the First Intifada to violent militancy as seen on October 7th.
The reality is that Israel as a Jewish state will never bring itself security, for the same reasons that apartheid South Africa or fascist Europe never found security: Zionism has created a social class of dispossessed people through supremacist policy. The dialectical development of the Israeli state building project has proceeded in such a way that it has created the very precondition for its own annihilation.
The only way forward for the people of the levant, Jewish as well as Palestinian Arab, is peace and equality through the end of the occupation, the replacement of a Jewish state with a democratic state, and reparations for the ongoing Nakba that began in 1948.
In the idea of the Jewish and democratic state, something's gotta give.
And I hate to say it, but Israel has chosen Jewishness over democracy, and the controversial prediction of Judeo-Nazism by Yeshayahu Leibowitz has become the truth.
We are watching Gaza and the West Bank slowly being taken over by people who are, for a lack of a better phrase, hardcore genocidal fascists.
In the obvious contradiction between ethnoreligious nationalism and democracy, I choose democracy every time. Even if it's an ethnoreligion I belong to.
And I am firmly of the conviction that history will absolve me. Our children, Jewish and gentile alike, will eventually look at the images of the starving children in Gaza and wonder why the world did nothing to stop it.
Just as I have heard passed down stories of how some of my own ancestors faced the horrors of the European fascists and also read the memoirs of people who survived, wondering how someone let a political movement so vile and beastly as the Nazis gain absolute power.
Some Palestinians in Gaza have resorted to eating animal feed, grass, and even sand in order to not be as hungry. They are being murdered en masse at food distribution sites. Nobody can go in or leave, and everyone there is literally in danger of being murdered by Israel.
I am confident that eventually, the historical record will catch up. The collective memory of the human race is recording the Gaza genocide for what it is, and this is causing an irreversible generational shift between older people who support Israel and younger people who support a democratic state or federation.
And it's happening among Jewish people in the same way as everyone else.
I just hope that the United States of America and the state of Israel are prevented from doing the fascist shit they've been doing, and I hope people wake up to it
And It breaks my heart seeing so many people in the Jewish community fail to see what the massacres in Gaza and the fascistic supremacism of the Israeli government for what it is.
As with the Catholic Church. The 'faithful' turning a blind eye to child rape, have pushed decent people away. The continuance of business as usual, is horrific...though not on a scale to compare with the bloodbath in Palestine. The atrocities committed in the name of religion, which is what is being used as a shield, and a justification, cannot be justified. Now, the settlers are erasing a town of Christians, in the West Bank. Smotrich must be pleased.
Historians will have a word for Jews who supported Likud and Otzma Yehudit, not because they hated Palestinians, but out of a hope for restored patriotism, or a sense of economic anxiety, or a hope to preserve their religious values, or dislike of their opponents, or raw political opportunism, or convenience, or ignorance, or greed.
That word is 'Zionist.' Nobody cares about their motives anymore.
