The first problem, which might seem small, is in how the company handles very basic stuff, like security certificates.
Manjaro has let their certificates expire 4 times now. It might seem like a very small issue, but it's extremely basic. Renewing certificates is extremely easy, and can be automated. Manjaro's inability to anticipate this or automate it isn't a good sign in terms of how seriously they take their security.
Manjaro also has the habit of trying to release things that aren't ready, without checking with the upstream devs first. One example is with the Asahi Linux project, where Manjaro decided that having Apple Silicon support early would be cool, and shipped a broken kernel.
This is what led to the "don't ship it" manifesto from various developers, and probably what led the Bottles developer to also ask distros to not repackage their software without talking to them first.
Another problem that arose was the use of the AUR in Manjaro. Except the AUR doesn't really work well on Manjaro. Because the AUR assumes you're using the latest Arch software, with the latest versions Arch releases. Which Manjaro doesn't, because they hold back packages for testing. Which means that installing stuff from the AUR can seriously break your Manjaro system if you're not careful.
Manjaro's AUR helper had a bug in it, that sent thousands of requests to the AUR's servers for each Manjaro user. This resulted in an involuntary DDOS attack, short for distributed denial of service
And then there are a few other issues. The project lead wanted to buy a new laptop using Manjaro funds, for about 2000€. The treasurer refused the expense, because it went against Manjaro's policy.
This led to an argument with the project lead, and surfaced other expenses that hadn't been discussed according to Manjaro's Policy, and led the treasurer to leave the company, leaving the project lead in full control of all the community funds.
Then Manjaro announced that they would be shipping SoftMaker office by default instead of LibreOffice. Replacing an open source component with a proprietary one isn't really something you'd expect from a Linux distribution.
Manjaro has also often been accused of not contributing to upstream, especially on the mobile front. Someone involved in the Pine64 community points out that the fact that most mobile Pine64 projects are starting to falter is due to the fact that only Manjaro is a supported distribution for the Pinephone, where before there were a myriad of community editions, and that Manjaro doesn't really contribute to supporting the hardware.

Had a seemingly random violent act done by a white guy less than a mile from our home. Pretty serious, as he rushed into a home, grabbed a knife from the dinner table and attempted to attack the home owner.
Our friends, who owned their house near where this guy lived sold and bought a different property about ten miles away, mainly to get farther away from him (other reasons, too, but that likely was the thing that motivated them to take action).
I'm not a champion for "diversity", but I think there are more causes for our problems than the negative consequences of diversity. I also agree that we are not all the same.

"It is not the first time the Israeli army has targeted al-Ahli Hospital; it was bombed on October 17, 2023, in a massacre that killed over 400 displaced people taking shelter in the hospital’s crowded courtyard. An Israeli court has extended the detention of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in #Gaza, for six months. The ruling, issued Tuesday by the Be’er Sheva Court, classifies him as an “unlawful combatant”, a term that Israel has been extensively using to describe abductees from Gaza.
Israeli forces kidnapped Dr. Abu Safiya in December 2024 after storming Kamal Adwan Hospital. Soldiers forced him out at gunpoint, destroying the hospital and putting it out of service.
His family reports that he has suffered severe torture and starvation in Israeli prisons. A lawyer who recently visited him confirmed this.

Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya is not okay. My last visit to him was on July 9, 2025. He has lost over 40 kilograms — more than one-third of his body weight. At the time of his arrest, he weighed 100 kg — today, he weighs no more than 60 kg.
On June 24, 2025, he was severely beaten. His room (Room 1, Section 24 – Ofer Prison) was specifically raided. He was brutally assaulted in the chest area and sustained severe bruises to the face, head, back, and neck. The beating lasted approximately 30 minutes.
Dr. Hossam requested medical care, proper testing, and to be examined by a cardiologist — but his request was denied. He suffers from irregular heartbeat. His eyeglasses, which had recently been sent to him through his lawyer, were broken.
He is still wearing winter clothes while enduring starvation, torture, solitary confinement, and total deprivation — buried underground, with no exposure to sunlight.

Nothing actually in the hospitals is illegal. The half a dozen guns and misc junk fit easily in the exemptions in article 22 of the relevant 1949 Geneva convention.
Even a guy shooting at them from the hospital it is probably covered by Article 22, if they were approaching the hospital and he reasonably believed they might hurrt patients or staff. If that guy even ever existed in any of the cases they reported something like that. His actions were wildly counter productive. Today was an awesome day at work. I managed to get a bit of time to completely year down this Lenovo X220 tablet, apply new thermal paste to the CPU, upgrade the RAM to 16GB DDR3, and replace the Seagate 500GB spinning rust drive with a 250GB WD Blue SSD. It's rocking Linux Mint 22.1 XFCE. Just finishing up by adding Krita, and some other software that might be useful on this neat machine. Have to pick up an eprom programmer some time so we can start flashing coreboot to some devices.
We upgraded the memory from 8GB to 16GB. One of the memory slots was not working, but got it working again after cleaning with a brush and rubbing alcohol. Some of the memory contacts in the slot must have had something stuck between them. Works great after cleaning.
We took out the bluetooth module, as my son does not plan on using that, so one less wireless device to worry about for power and security.
Redid thermal paste. Thorough cleaning.
Seems to be working much better now. It was not booting up at all right before this cleaning and working on and off for the past couple weeks. Hopefully this cleaning and service resolves that.

Most humans with two ears have a pretty good sense of directional hearing. However, you can build equipment to localize audio sources, too. That’s precisely what [Sam], [Ezra], and [Ari] did for their final project for the ECE4760 class at Cornell this past Spring. It’s an audio localizer!
The project is a real-time audio localizer built on a Raspberry Pi Pico. The Pico is hooked up to three MEMS microphones which are continuously sampled at a rate of 50 kHz thanks to the Pico’s nifty DMA features. Data from each microphone is streamed into a rolling buffer, with peaks triggering the software on the Pico to run correlations between channels to determine the time differences between the signal hitting each microphone. Based on this, it’s possible to estimate the location of the sound source relative to the three microphones.
The team goes into great deal on the project’s development, and does a grand job of explaining the mathematics and digital signal processing involved in this feat. Particularly nice is the heatmap output from the device which gives a clear visual indication of how the sound is being localized with the three microphones.
