The risk estimate rose sharply again last week to 1.6% “Currently Infectious”, or 1-in-64. After 7 weeks, there’s still no peak in sight.

Here’s the historical series that drives the risk estimate: Staff Cases (Weekly) in Residential Aged Care, to try to put this wave into context against the other waves since 2022.
It’s perhaps a heroic assumption at this point to imagine that the testing ascertainment rates (accuracy) has remained consistent. Earlier in the pandemic there were effectively financial incentives for accurate reporting, which I understand have since been withdrawn.
IAC I don’t see any significant trend to support assertions that "the waves/impact is getting lower", or "it’s just another season virus now". The pattern is actually waves of random intensity and timing – all driven by the arrival of new variants.

The variant driving this wave is clearly NB.1.8.1.* "Nimbus". In Hong Kong that wave peaked in around 8 weeks, perhaps giving Australia hope. However there was a robust public health response to the wave in Hong Kong – urging vaccinations including for children, masking on public transport etc.
The public health efforts across Australia have been patchy and weak, the key concern seems to be suppressing embarrassing news about smashed healthcare system capacity.

I've been using Pop!_OS for a few years now, and it's worked like a dream. Everything works out-of-the-box, and gaming on Linux has never been easier. But it almost works a little too well. Learning Linux as opposed to Windows for all my games was a fun challenge.
But, now that I'm familiar with how to set up any game that needs a little help besides Proton, I'm starting to want to delve into my OS more to see what I can customize, and I think picking a new distro with slightly different architechture will be very nice.
Don't get me wrong, I still want something that works by itself more often than not. But I would love to have something a little more cutting-edge that gives me a little more control.
I started with Linux by installing Kubuntu, and I really miss KDE Plasma. I know Kubuntu is still on Plasma 5, and I've been wanting to find a distro that lets me use Plasma 6.
I've narrowed my choices down to three distros: Nobara, Garuda, and Bazzite.
So far, I've confirmed that Nobara and Garuda come with Plasma 6, but I haven't found that information for Bazzite yet.
So, what do you think about these distros? What are the pros and cons for you?
I'm leaning the most toward Garuda - but I'm worried Arch may be TOO big of a leap. I really just learned that Fedora is not Arch-based, so I know Garuda will be a bit of the odd one out of the three.
TL;DR: Nobara, Garuda, Bazzite - which one is good and do any suck?

Thanks, everyone, for the insightful and helpful comments! From what everyone has said, I've come to find that either CachyOS or Solus will fit my needs best.
CachyOS seems optimized for gaming, while Solus' curated rolling releases seem (to my untrained eye at least) to be somewhat of a step between the way Debian-based distros upgrade and the way Arch-based distros upgrade.
I'd love to hear people's experiences with both of these! I think I'm going to try to dual-boot them and see what setup looks like for both.😄

What’s the environmental impact of Jeff Bezos's wedding? It can be estimated that at least 2 people will die from heatwaves induced by the wedding carbon footprint, which is equivalent to the average yearly emissions of 1,547 people. Why?
According to [1], 96 private jets landed in Venice Marco Polo airport for the wedding. The identities and residences of 34 of the invitees are known ([1]+AI search). Under the following assumptions:
- A private jet emits on average 4.9 kg of CO2 per mile [2];
- The coefficient for the radiative forcing of flying adding to fuel burning is 1.9 [3];
- The remaining 62 private jets emitted proportionally the same as the 34 known flights,
I get a total of 8,709 tons (t) of CO2-eq.
Bezos reportedly spent at least 7 days before the wedding in the Mediterranean on his super-yacht Koru. Assuming 8 hours of cruising time per day, and that 9 other guests did the same, this adds 1,500t of CO2 to the total.
Adding 3.3t for flying by helicopter to the wedding venue, the total is then 10,213t of CO2-eq.
As the average yearly emission by a planet inhabitant is 6.6t of CO2 [4], this is equivalent to the emissions of 1,547 people. As it has been estimated that every 4.434t of CO2 one person will die due to heatwaves [5], this makes for 2.3 people dying from Bezos’s wedding, most likely in Africa [6].
