Dans cet article classique paru en 1972 dans l’American Journal of Sociology, inédit en français et précédé d’une introduction de Hadrien Clouet, Herbert Gans renverse la perspective et cherche à identifier l’intérêt qu’ont certains acteurs au maintien ou à l’extension de la pauvreté. « Sumud, صمود, la ténacité résiliente, n’est pas un terme sentimental. C’est un terme politique qui signifie que le peuple n’abandonne pas », expose Ramzy Baroud.

« Muqawama, مقاومة, que l’on traduit par résistance, se passe d’adjectif. Il n’y a pas la #résistance armée et la résistance pacifique. La #muqawama se suffit à elle-même. Vous résistez, et vous n’avez d’autre choix que de résister. Les factions n’ont rien à voir avec cela. La muqawama transcende le temps, l’espace et l’idéologie. C’est ce qui unit tous les Palestiniens. Si vous décidez que vous ne serez pas vaincus, peu importe le rapport de force, vous resterez invaincus. #Gaza a déjà été qualifiée d’endroit impropre à la vie en 2020 par les Nations Unies. Comment la qualifier aujourd’hui ? Mais les Palestiniens restent à Gaza et luttent. »

Au moment où la #France était censée reconnaître l’État de #Palestine, elle choisit de réitérer son soutien sans faille à #Israël.

La France refuse de considérer 22 % de la Palestine historique comme terre palestinienne et fait le choix du colonialisme sous sa forme exterminatrice.

La France renouvelle son soutien sans faille à l’occupant au moment où les Nations Unies pointent dans un rapport qu’Israël est le pays au monde qui viole le plus le droit des enfants. Gaza et la Cisjordanie sont les deux endroits au monde les plus dangereux pour un enfant.

La France réitère son soutien sans faille à un Etat qui largue des bombes d’une tonne sur les écoles et les hôpitaux.

A Gaza, les médecins reçoivent leurs proches à l’hôpital – par pour une fracture, mais pour des organes vitaux éclatés.
A Gaza, des fœtus gisent dans la poussière, arrachés du ventre de leur mère par un obus.
A Gaza, Rahaf, trois ans, agonise seule, par terre, du sang plein la bouche.
A Gaza, Mouafak transporte à vélo le corps de Ali, son père, qui était parti chercher de quoi faire du pain.

Ce n’est pas une tragédie, c’est un génocide.

Le journaliste Anas al-Sharif, à Gaza-ville, témoigne : « 100 martyrs depuis l’aube. La plupart faisaient la queue pour obtenir à manger. Ils voulaient de la farine, ils ont trouvé la mort. 100 âmes innocentes arrachées à la vie. 100 familles dévastées. 100 enfants dormiront sans père ce soir. Gaza ne saigne pas, Gaza est massacrée. »

« Quand votre fils vous dit ‘j’ai faim, je veux manger’, qu’est-ce que vous pouvez faire ? » interroge Hassan. « Vous voulez que votre vie s’arrête, vous voulez mourir. »

A Gaza, les enfants aussi veulent mourir. Une étude de War Child Alliance estimait en décembre 2024 que 49 % des enfants souhaitaient mourir. Et que 97 % des enfants pensaient leur mort imminente.

Le problème, ce n’est pas l’extrême droite israélienne, c’est le sionisme en tant qu’idéologie suprémaciste. 80 % des Israéliens approuvent l’expulsion de la population de Gaza et une majorité s’oppose à l’entrée de l’aide humanitaire à Gaza.

Il n’y a pas de #sionisme de gauche, pas plus qu’il n’y a de racisme de gauche. Il n’y a pas d’occupation à visage humain ni de #colonialisme humaniste.

Israël s’est construit sur les ruines des 500 villages palestiniens rayés de la carte en 1948. Israël est bâti sur la déportation de 2/3 des Palestiniens en 1948.

Israël occupe et bombarde la Palestine. Israël occupe et bombarde le Liban. Israël occupe et bombarde la Syrie. Israël bombarde le Yemen. Israël bombarde l’Iran.

Et l’Occident accepte une fois de plus de tailler sur mesure une exception israélienne à la loi. Par la magie de l’impunité, le crime d’agression devient légitime défense et guerre préventive – fantasme impérialiste inexistant dans le droit international.

L’Occident une fois de plus épouse et reprend à son compte la distorsion du droit et du récit par l’occupant, au détriment de la loi et de la vérité factuelle.

Depuis plus de 30 ans, Israël clame que l’Iran est « à deux doigts de la bombe », et l’Occident préfère le croire et rester sourd aux déclarations de Rafael Grossi, directeur de l’AIEA, répétant que l’agence n’a aucune preuve que l’Iran fabrique une bombe nucléaire.

Tulsi Gabbard, à la tête du National Security Council, qui chapeaute toutes les agences du renseignement américain, affirme elle aussi dans un rapport le 26 mars 2025 que l’Iran n’est pas en train d’élaborer la bombe atomique et que le régime n’autorise pas le programme nucléaire militaire – peu importe.

Peu importe aussi, a fortiori, si le chef spirituel de l’Iran, Ali Khamenei, répète depuis 2003 qu’il proscrit l’arme nucléaire, estimée comme contraire à l’Islam, et si le président Masoud Pezeshkian atteste que l’Iran ne cherche pas à s’en doter.

Israël tente d’assassiner Ali Chabkhani, chargé des négociations sur le nucléaire avec les Etats-Unis, qui s’était engagé le 15 mai à ne pas chercher à fabriquer l’arme atomique.

Quel pays au monde a déjà bombardé par le passé des sites nucléaires, en Irak et en Syrie, sans susciter une désapprobation mondiale ?
A présent Israël bombarde des sites atomiques en Iran et est encouragé par l’Occident.

Mais c’est bien Israël, et non l’Iran, qui refuse toute inspection de l’AIEA.
C’est bien Israël, et non l’Iran, qui détient des centaines d’ogives nucléaires non déclarées (13) et n’a signé aucun traité sur les armes atomiques.

La peur est ce qui cimente la société israélienne. « En tant qu’Israélien, vous recevez des overdoses, de manipulation de la mémoire de l’Holocauste ; vous devenez addict à la peur », expose Ilan Pappé.

Israël est construit sur le mensonge et se nourrit de la peur. « Quand [les troupes sionistes] attaquaient l’’ennemi’, en 1948, elles n’attaquaient pas une armée, elles attaquaient un village avec toute sa population. Certains membres de ces troupes étaient eux-mêmes des survivants de l’Holocauste. Comment les convainquez-vous que ce qu’il convient de faire, que ce que vous avez de mieux à faire, c’est d’aller à Deir Yassin, ou tout autre village, et de massacrer les bébés, les enfants, les femmes, les hommes, les vieillards, que c’est de la légitime défense, que c’est nécessaire ? »

Israël instille dans nos sociétés une culture de la peur, de la méfiance, de la haine. Le sionisme est un poison pour l’humanité.
La question, ce n’est pas deux Etats, un Etat, ce n’est pas la sécurité d’Israël. Prendre le problème à la racine, c’est mettre fin au suprémacisme sioniste, à l’occupation coloniale.

Je voudrais terminer par une pensée pour Omar, 8 ans, qui pleure et erre dans l’hôpital Nasser, hébété, terrifié, cherchant désespérément sa sœur après le bombardement de sa maison, et qui ne sait pas encore que son père est mort, lui aussi.

Une pensée pour Amira, 11 ans, qui répète : « Nous ne voulons pas manger, papa. Si seulement tu n’étais pas parti, papa… »

Une pensée pour Yasmine, qui pleure elle aussi son papa et demande : « Qui m’appellera mon petit oiseau, qui me prendra dans ses bras, qui m’appellera ma petite fleur ? »

Regardons-les. Notre coeur doit saigner. Notre cœur doit brûler. C’est par nous, société civile, que viendra le changement, pas de l’occupant et de ses complices.
