So, the question on everyone's mind is "Why isn't anyone stopping him?" And unfortunately, the answer to that question is "Because fundamentally the Constitution is not designed to stop someone like him".

The Constitution is designed to handle the occasional weak, ineffectual, or even ignorant President. But the founders never in their wildest dreams imagined they would need to protect against widespread, coordinated attacks by multiple partisan bad faith actors abusing the power given to them by the document to dismantle the Republic the document is supposed to safeguard.

So let's call this what it is. Not a Presidency. Not a regime. A coup.

At this point, the way people talk about Hamas, it's like they aren't even talking about the real thing. They're talking about their internalized propaganda movie of Hamas.

This is true of both people who see them as a Bush era terror machine and people who see them as heroic freedom fighters who can do no wrong.

Hamas can only be understood from a rational perspective when considering the totality of the Israeli rule over the Gaza strip, the social movements that predated Hamas, the economic context Hamas took power in, the historical ties between Israel and Hamas, and their role in the second intifada.

The truth is that Hamas is a partisan militant organization that is a genuine multi-branched mass movement on the part of an oppressed and colonized population. Its military wing is also guilty of both wartime atrocities and collaboration with Israel at various points in its history. Both can be true at the same time.

They're very obviously a desperate reaction to Israeli oppression, though, were that oppression to suddenly cease, Hamas would not. I see them as very similar to the IRA of the 80s and 90s and similar strategies could apply such as providing a path to legitimacy through wider recognition. In the IRA's case, this primarily took the form of the Sinn Féin political party that, last I checked, remains strong.

Troubling.

This picture bothers me. Not because it features Vance Boelter the suspect in the shootings of two Minnesota legislators, but take a look at the police officers arresting him. Full blown tactical combat gear, right down to the night-vision and the unit patches velcroed to their shoulders.

There will come a time when it will be impossible to distinguish between soldiers and the police; not a good direction.

I also note the officers faces have been blacked out for this photo.
