Auf dem Weg nach Düsseldorf, wo ich morgen früh live im ZDF bei „Volle Kanne“ sein werde (schaltet mal rein und postet, wie ihr es fandet!) sitze ich auf dem Boden. Keine Klimaanlage im Bordbistro, ein komplett überlasteter ICE, der ungeplant viele Fahrgäste aus anderen Zügen aufnehmen musste.
DANKE an alle, die den Laden heute am Laufen halten. Trotz Hitze. Trotz Ausfällen. Trotz politischer Vernachlässigung.
An Tagen wie heute wird wieder sichtbar, wer unsere Mobilität wirklich trägt: Die Menschen bei der Bahn – in den Zügen, an den Bahnsteigen, in Servicecentern, Leitstellen, Werkstätten und Fahrgastinformationssystemen.
Bei Temperaturen deutlich über 30 Grad, unermüdlich im Einsatz, dabei oft beschimpft und sogar bedroht. IHR seid das Rückgrat der Verkehrswende. Mein Dank, Respekt und Mitgefühl gehört immer und erst recht heute euch!
Viele Verbindungen fallen heute aus. Klimaanlagen versagen. Die Infrastruktur ist durch das Extremwetter komplett überlastet.
Das ist nicht eure Schuld, sondern das Resultat jahrzehntelanger politischer Entscheidungen. Der aktuelle Zustand ist kein Zufall – er wurde gemacht.
Jahrzehntelange Unterfinanzierung der Schiene
Priorisierung von Autobahnbau und fossilem Individualverkehr
Fehlende Redundanzen und Kapazitäten
Und jetzt: immer häufigere Extremwetterlagen, die das System ans absolute Limit bringen Das ist keine NATURkatastrophe. Es ist eine politische.
Was es braucht, ist nicht noch mehr Geduld von Mitarbeitenden und Reisenden zu fordern – sondern Druck auf die Politik. Der Bundeshaushalt gibt jedes Jahr zig Milliarden für fossile Subventionen aus – vom Dienstwagenprivileg bis zur Entfernungspauschale. Geld ist da. Was fehlt, ist der Wille.
Und hier kommt ihr ins Spiel: – Schreibt eure Abgeordneten an. – Fragt, was im Bundesverkehrsministerium wirklich Priorität hat. – Macht Druck – von unten. Denn von oben bewegt sich zu wenig.
Wir brauchen:
mehr Personal, besser bezahlt und besser geschützt
mehr Züge, mehr Redundanz, mehr Resilienz
und vor allem: eine Verkehrspolitik, die aufhört, das Auto zu vergöttern, während Menschen in überhitzten Zügen arbeiten und reisen
ch stehe an der Seite derer, die heute trotzdem da sind – und trotz allem versuchen, die Mobilität der Vielen zu ermöglichen. Und kommt mir jetzt mit keinem ABER, das hatten wir Jahrzehnte lang. Es braucht jetzt endlich das DAFÜR! Für freie Wahl der Mobilität, sichere Reisen egal womit und einen Respekt, den alle verdient haben, wie auch immer sie unterwegs sein wollen.

- Man kann Angehörige von #Minderheiten wieder öffentlich verächtlich machen ("Zirkuszelt") - Man kann die schwächsten in der Gesellschaft (#Geflüchtete, #Bürgergeldempfänger*innen) pauschal diffamieren und für alle Probleme verantwortlich machen - Man kann wissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse (menschengemachter #Klimawandel) einfach leugnen - Man kann wieder #Listen anlegen wie früher (psychisch Kranke), falls man die mal braucht - Man kann sich bewusst über (deutsches wie internationales) #Recht hinwegsetzen (#Grenzkontrollen, #Zurückweisungen, #Netanyahu) - Man kann die Tötung von Menschen als "#Drecksarbeit" bezeichnen und sich im selben Satz dafür bedanken - Man kann aber auch die zuvor als unverantwortlich gescholtenen Politikansätze der heutigen Opposition übernehmen, wo es einem selbst Spielräume eröffnet (#Schuldenbremse, Wehr-Etat 5%).
Die Liste ließe sich fast beliebig verlängern. Aber wir sind auch so schon um Jahrzehnte zurückgeworfen, in denen mühsam gesellschaftlicher #Fortschritt erarbeitet wurde.
Und ich wünsche mich (und uns) tatsächlich zurück - in die Zukunft.
Die CDU stemmt sich gegen das Hissen der Regenbogenflagge am Bundestag, Kanzler Merz äußerte sich besonders schnodderig. Die Opposition – aber auch CDU-Politikerinnen – reagieren verärgert.
Die @SPDde hat bei ihrem Parteitag einstimmig für die Vorbereitung eines AfD-Verbotsverfahrens gestimmt.

Das ist ein offener Bruch mit Zusagen aus dem Koalitionsvertrag – und eine Kampfansage an den Ausbau der erneuerbaren Energien.
Doch immerhin regt sich auch in der Koalition gerade der Widerstand gegen Reiches ungerechte und klimaschädliche Pläne.
Schon zu Reiches Amtsbeginn hatten wir vor massiven Interessenkonflikten gewarnt, weil die neue Ministerin jahrelang Chefin eines Gaskonzerns war.
Dass sie die Interessen der Gaslobby nun so unverblümt bedient, hätten selbst wir nicht gedacht.
➡️ Beispiel 3: Agrarminister Alois Rainer (CSU) gibt sich betont kumpelhaft beim Bauerntag – dem zentralen Event der Lobby der Agrarindustrie. Man sei „zu Gast bei Freunden“.
Sein Freundschaftsdienst an der Agrarlobby: Umweltauflagen beim Düngen abschaffen.
Das schadet den ohnehin bereits belasteten Böden, dem Trinkwasser und dem Klima – und damit uns allen.
Der Bauernverband hatte zuvor genau dafür lobbyiert und die Auflagen als lästige „Bürokratie“ abgetan. Nun hat er seine Wünsche erfüllt bekommen.
Bereits der Koalitionsvertrag enthielt zahlreiche Lobbygeschenke an fossile Konzerne - insbesondere die Gasindustrie.
Die neue Bundesregierung zeigt immer deutlicher, dass ihr fossile Geschäftsinteressen wichtiger sind als das Gemeinwohl.
Nun heißt es: fossile Lobbyinteressen weiter sichtbar machen und gemeinsam zurückdrängen. Dazu braucht es starkes zivilgesellschaftliches Engagement – und integre Politiker:innen, die sich dem Gemeinwohl verpflichtet fühlen!

Die fatale Folge: Unter Menschen mit niedrigem Einkommen gibt es mehr Hitzetote. Perhaps in your experience. Wayland is working great for me. I haven't used X11 is quite a while now. X11 is ancient, and most people should stop using it.
Wayland started with far fewer issues than X11 did. When I first started using Linux, X11 issues were the majority of my problems, and I spent untold hours solving them. I guess some people don't remember that or weren't around at the time.
There are a few very vocal detractors, but there are always those people any time systems change. They can mostly be ignored.
Also, I'm not claiming that nobody should use X11. It's very possible there are edge cases where it's the only option.
Yeah, there are a few apps that will never work on it because Wayland is not a replacement for X11.
They really should have debloated/Optimize X11 instead of going to Wayland.....X11 is tried and true and just works. One man, Xlibre, is going to do that

wayland still won't let me set my tv that I bought in 2019 to 4k60. Latest developments on the matter of the government minister whose son is/was fascist group recruiter and nazi brutality-club activist is that almost all, but not all, major news-media refuse publicly reporting which minister it is, with the claimed reason that the person "linked to a member of the government" is underage, which is of course not even a valid claimed reason for refusing to say which minister it is. The minister isn't underage. They don't have to say anything more identifiable than "a son of the Minister for Migration of Sweden" or even "closely related to the Minister for Migration". I don't think anyone has demanded that they personally identify anyone else than the minister in this matter. Of course if anyone takes that information and digs for more, then they will find it, but that is already the case so is not a valid reason either. Due to the minister's previous statements on how parents must be held responsible for their children's acts, so they may be deported, etc, makes this highly politically relevant and the news-media refusing to say which minister it is actually refuse to do their jobs, obstructing the debate needed for healthy democracy, instead apparently treating people with extraordinary power as if instead extraordinarily vulnerable, marginalized persecuted.
Well, new new development, while I was writing: The Minister for Migration has been summoned to the parliamentary "Committee on Social Insurance" and as a result of that also the two largest evening papers in Sweden now report which minister it is, while Public Service radio (SR) and TV (SVT) still just say "the minister", but Public Service TV reported that "When SVT News calls the government office's on call press service nobody answers, which surprises the government's phone switchboard operator. -Very weird, that has never happened before." (my translation) while when the major evening paper Expressen asked the government if the minister is working they got the response "The Ministers are always in service [as in working]. A minister is not an employee in the sense of labor law, but a paid contractor. To be a minister is a duty which applies around the clock, every day of the year" (my translation). Sooo... huh, what? They also asked if the minister was at the latest government cabinet meeting and just got a longwinded statement on how the minutes of the meeting is not completed yet and they can't say when it will be completed.
Get a feeling they are ducking? Maybe? A bit?

This morning the Nazi-campaigner's dad Minister for Migration (and for "Integration") of Sweden went on TV, after a week of stonewalling the revelation of the son's Nazi-activism. The minister stated that "I wish I wasn't in this situation".
The minister previously strongly promoted refugee-families should be deported if a child "misbehaves", but now said "Parental responsibility doesn't mean it always goes right. Sometimes it goes wrong. […] It is about TRYING to succeed.", which is certainly extremely different now that it's Nazi and own parental responsibility failure.
The minister also used the child as a shield to claim "to protect a minor" was the reason for refusing to take responsibility in the press until now, which is pure bullshit. If the minister had proactively taken responsibility instead of actively ducking, then they could have kept focus on the failed dad, preventing widening of topic.
The minister claims to have "had no idea at all" of the >1 year Nazi-activities, although some was in public through the son's public social media account, which the minister follows.
Instead of taking responsibility the minister exploited this personal failure to implicitly promote banning teens from social media, which would devastate their development for an adulthood with social media.

Furthermore, the State Security (SÄPO) spy agency elsewhere assures the public that they do have their own information gathering, related to that the anti-fascist magazine Expo was the first to inform the failed parenting responsibility Migration Minister, just before SÄPO did (while AFA/antifa has had the person's Nazi-campaigning activities under silent surveillance for a long time). Oookay... I didn't think that spy agency (or any) was without "own information gathering". Now... I'm confused and uncertain? Whut?

The party's actual history involves mergers of parties like the 1888 "Protectionist Party" from which it became 1910 "United Right Party", then 1912 "National Party" until 1935 becoming the "The Right" party (as in "right-wing", not "justice"... different words in Swedish), until renaming to the "Moderate Party" in 1969 for PR of the times while not making their politics "moderate" but remaining the most right-wing party in parliament until the "Christian Democrat" (disputed claims) party got in 1985 so both competed for most right-wing in parliament, until as late as 2010 when Waffen-SS frontline-volunteers co-founded "Sweden Democrat" party took farthest right-mantle but both of the previous farthest-right parties in parliament keep adopting recent policies of the more recent more hate-based contender, without which they can't govern, thus dragging everyone down doom-pit of far-right authoritarianism. Just because a party puts a PR-claim in their name does not make it true. Politicians lie.

OTD in 1863, Colonel Strong Vincent, a relatively lesser Union leader whose bold stand on Little Round Top on Day 2 saved the Union line, and arguably the Union itself.
On July 2, 1863, Vincent’s brigade was rushed to reinforce the Union left flank as Confederate forces under James Longstreet attacked. Recognizing the undefended Little Round Top—a hill critical to the Union line—Vincent acted without orders, positioning his brigade atop the hill just minutes before Confederate troops from John B. Hood’s division assaulted.
He placed the 20th Maine (under Joshua Chamberlain) on the far left, with his other regiments forming a thin line. As waves of Alabamians struck, Vincent rallied his men, reportedly shouting, “Don’t give an inch!” Struck by a bullet while waving his riding crop, he fell mortally wounded. His brigade, inspired by his example, held firm, with Chamberlain’s bayonet charge sealing the defense. Vincent’s stand saved Little Round Top, securing the Union flank.
Vincent was carried to a nearby farmhouse, where he lingered for five days, dying of his wounds on July 7, 1863, at age 26. he was promoted to brigadier general on his deathbed. Fellow officers, including Chamberlain, praised Vincent’s foresight, with V Corps commander George Sykes noting his loss as “irreparable.” His sacrifice at Little Round Top was initially overshadowed by larger narratives but later recognized as a linchpin of the Union victory.
Strong Vincent’s defense of Little Round Top is now celebrated as a defining moment of Gettysburg. His quick thinking preserved the Union line, enabling the victories of July 3.
@GummyNerds Had the South had defeated the Union at Gettysburg, I think there is a good chance that the North would have accepted terms peace and Southern independence. By saving the day at Little Round Top and allowing the Union to fight on and win the battle on July 3rd, one could argue he was responsible for saving the nation.
First and foremost, the Union was never in jeopardy; it would have continued to exist had Lincoln not fought to deny Southern states their rights. Secondly, Lincoln's war destroyed the Union. Thirdly, Rex Manning can go suck an egg.
