The Trump administration had already halted work on the next edition of the report, and fired all the staff who worked on it…An archived version of the most recent edition is available through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration [#NOAA]. The trick on a day like today is to balance the anger that comes from the knowledge that the notion of freedom in the United States is deeply hypocritical with gratitude for the many freedoms we do enjoy that many across the globe do not. Try holding both things at once.

I’m the only one of my generation to be born in the States. I have at least 50 cousins who were born and raised in Nigeria who struggle daily with that reality. It puts things into perspective.

I'm weeding my client's gardens as she tells me about living in NYC in her 20s & had a small apartment in Harlem. I'm learning about how Chinese & Black communities interacted during the 80s in NYC. She also told me about a Black fashion designer, Dapper Dan, who had a store in Harlem. It's where she bought her first new jacket with her first paycheque, as a young pharmacist.

Dapper Dan took Gucci logos & revamped them into new, funky styles. He sold these for years before Gucci got his business shut down. It was too late because many hip-hop artists had popularized Dapper Dan's revamped designs. Gucci ended up signing a contract to allow Dapper Dan to create his designs using their logos. Since then, his designs remain the most popular items sold under the Gucci brand name.

I learn a lot of interesting, new to me, true stories from many of my clients. They've led some colourful lives.

"More people are unaccounted for, including at a summer camp where Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick confirmed around 20 children are missing.

" 'Within 45 minutes, the #GuadalupeRiver rose 26 feet and it was a destructive flood - taking property and sadly lives,' he said in a news conference on Friday.

"He read out a statement from all-girls Camp Mystic, where about 750 children were attending, saying there had been a 'catastrophic level' of flooding, and informed parents that if they have not been contacted, their child is accounted for."

@Steve Herman Not living in an area frequently subject to floods, I am always curious what causes so many water related deaths? Is it because people don't know how to swim? Or because they're in a structure and get crushed in it as the structure is swept down stream or? The only floods I've seen first hand were after Mt. St. Helens blew up and all of the sudden a glacier was liquid and flowing downhill. So I really don't have a good appreciation of what happens. I've been in some fairly swift rivers but I've always managed to work my way over to the side and eventually been able to snag a branch or a boulder and get out.
