Although hypothetically if Trump were to adopt a position that only 4% of Republicans is happy with, and 3% of Americans, and if he spend a week raging out at his supporters and saying he doesn't even want their support anymore, then some funny things could happen.

Don't know about this. I think his base is fracturing.
Trump was elected for one reason: as a middle finger to the establishment. He was the anti-swamp and people were OK with all of his imperfections as long as he represented the common man's distain for the establishment.
