“We Are all Palestinian Children”: EZLN Condemns Genocide in Gaza during Encounter of Resistances and Rebellions

We cannot forget or set aside; therefore, our humble word to them is: we are all Palestinian girls; we are all Palestinian boys,” said Subcomandante Insurgente Moisés at the inauguration of the Encounter of Resistances and Rebellions “Some Parts of the Whole,” which began this Sunday at the Comandanta Ramona Caracol IV Seedbed in Morelia, Chiapas.
In front of hundreds of militiamen from the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN), who marched to the compound each carrying batons and Palestinian flags, Subcomandante Moisés condemned the genocide at the hands of Israel and silently extended the Palestinian flag in solidarity with the people of Gaza.
The ceremony opened the Encounter, in which thousands of people from 37 countries will participate until August 17th to share with Zapatista men, women, and children their experiences and proposals in their struggles against the destruction of nature, migration, racism, wars, the destruction of life, and the destruction of identities, peoples, and communities.
During the Encounter, the Zapatista communities will explain to the collectives, activists, and organizations the problems their communities face and the progress and setbacks they have observed.
The conference’s activities include roundtables and workshops addressing specific topics with practical proposals for territorial defense, women’s political participation, art as a form of resistance, forced migration, armed conflict, and community lifestyles.
According to previous announcements from El Capitán Marcos, representatives from Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cyprus, Denmark, Ecuador, Egypt, El Salvador, Finland, France, Germany, Galicia, Ghana, Great Britain, Greece, Guatemala, Italy, Kurdistan, Mexico, Morocco, Norway, the Balkans, the Basque Country, Panama, Peru, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, the United States, and Uruguay will participate in the meeting.

I have to wonder why people don't comment anymore. Has it become vilified out of fear of disagreement? I've noticed that the microblogging portion of the Fediverse seems to have trouble generating engagement and I'm not really sure why.
Because... Not just anti-virality, but invisibility of users marginal to the Fediverse (all the people from the global south, black and brown users from the global north, all the people who do NOT share the ideology of liberal imperialism) is built into the very structure of the Fediverse. Such users get no followers, their posts receive no boosts, so no one ever becomes aware of their posts. Even if these users add hashtags to their posts, and even if someone else actively searches for those hashtags later, they do not find those posts.

I have argued a few times that for all practical purposes, the global south does not exist for Mastodon, and for the rest of the Fediverse.
In this context, remember that search on the Fediverse is strictly local, your search runs only on your server. If your server has not pulled a particular post from another server, your search will not find it, no matter what search sorcery you try.
And your server will only pull a post from another server if someone on your server is following that poster, or if someone on your server boosts that post. If that doesn't happen, you as a user will not become aware of that post, even if you search for precisely the topic of that post.
(There is a roundabout way in which you can become aware of the post: someone you follow on another server boosts that post, and then it appears in your "Home" stream. But in the case of users marginal to the Fediverse, the follower count is almost always too low, so this hardly ever happens in practice, to any statistically significant degree.)
@Feral Ferment This is, if anything, even more of an issue with social media that has algorithms, so that doesn't go far into explaining it. It does say we need to decentralize away from everyone using mastodon.social but not why fedi users themselves appear so introverted and reluctant to reply to one another much of the time, in contrast to users of corporate social media.

I don't think that's true.
Look, it's quite simple.
One: the sheer size of the user base of commercial social media like Facebook, Twitter etc. is vast compared to the Fediverse. That alone increases the likelihood of someone interacting with one's post.
Two: The commercial social media have vast user bases in the global south, and among brown and black folks in the global north. Therefore, those people find a large number of people "like them" to interact with.
Three: The infamous algorithms ensure that at least some posts of one's interest land in the "home" stream without the user being aware in advance of the existence of those posts or posters.
In case of the Fediverse, the material conditions dictate that there won't be enough users in the global south setting up their own servers. So the users there are at the mercy of global north instances admins and their whims. This is also true of black and brown folks from the global north.
(And would the global north fedi instances be able to handle a truly large flow of users from the global south? I guess not. They will simply shutter new registrations. It will be justified from their point of view.)
What you see in the Fediverse today is obviously a reflection of power imbalances and lopsided resource distribution in real life.
@Feral Ferment I see a lot of complaining, and not a lot of action here. I also see some hyprocrisy: Here you are, as a person living in India, but follow few people, don't engage much on the platform; your primary engagements seem to be posting long form essays.
I follow a lot of folks in the global south here; it's easy to do so without even realizing you're doing it, because if you engage, people will engage back, regardless of where you live. Yes, your server is probably located overseas — and that's the case with basically the entire internet. Africa doesn't have a whole lot of major servers running in it.
The algorithm doesn't help people from the global south find engagement; if anything, it buries their voices. In the fediverse, your engagement is based entirely on whom you engage with.
It's certainly a fact that fewer people on these platforms — any of these platforms — will be following or posting using tags tailored specifically to the global south. That unfortunately goes without saying, and it's been that way since before even the advent of social media: There's a reason Marx wrote persistently about Europe and North America and didn't mention China or Vietnam once, and it isn't because there's some problem with the way that books work.
But that didn't prevent people in China and Vietnam from writing along the same lines as him. That didn't prevent them from engaging with his work, either. The difference is, now, someone in Vietnam can intentionally federate with mastodon.social (as you'll recall you recommended I do) and use the "communist" tag, and get as much engagement as anyone in North America would be expected to; whereas the algorithm would instead bury them simply for mentioning the word.
This really is a case of putting in what you want to get out of the platform. You've told me to do so, but yet, your argument is that people in the global south in specific shouldn't have to.

This isn't my first rodeo, I have opened Mastodon accounts in the past, done all the things you say I ought to be doing, and found no engagement. I know people from the global south who have had similar experiences. You cannot simply blame those people and say it's all their fault.
A large number of black folks from the global north (primarily American blacks) have documented how awful their experiences of the Fedi were, and how nothing they faced on Facebook or Twitter was remotely close to that. Again, you don't get to tell them they were doing the Fedi incorrectly.
Understand that there may be reasons why people can't stay on a computer/smartphone all the time. People may decide that the Fedi is simply not worth the time and the effort, and you need to learn to accept that their point of view could be valid.
Try being not so judgemental.

This is my actual issue here. If you were simply a rando that I found talking about the experience of someone in the global south with the fediverse, I'd absolutely be listening more actively. But you aren't; you're someone who has been advising me, sometimes rather intensely, about how to effectively use the fediverse, straight on through to our very first interaction which was your criticism of the platform I was on. I just find this all deeply ironic and hypocritical. And now, to call me judgmental for pointing this out?
Yes, some people don't want to "do the fedi properly". That is absolutely 100% valid and I understand people not being excited about every fedi platform gleefully advertising itself as "having no algorithm!" Some people like the algorithm. Some people don't want to put in a ton of work into making sure they're federating with everything and using the right hashtags and engaging with the right people. That's valid.
What isn't valid is what is happening here: I am noticing a social phenomenon in which the average fediverse user doesn't tend to like commenting. They're happily liking and sharing things, but there isn't a lot of human engagement because of what I perceive as as a fear of conflict. Your response, which I am criticizing, is to tell me aktyually, people in the global south have it way worse, because they don't want to do the fediverse properly, and shouldn't have to! — but you still should, because you're not in the global south; make sure you do all the fediverse things with mastodon.social!

I am getting a bit lost here. I initially replied to a reply to you by @🦊 OneFluffyBoi 🦊, but I did not think in terms of hijacking your original post. I still don't think I did, but I understand your interpretation is different.
I agree that there are wild fluctuations in the intensity of my engagement with you, and with the Fediverse, on this channel. I do not wish to get into the reasons for that. Those reasons have nothing to do with the Fedi, and everything to do with my personal situation at the moment.
I do not know if you are making that point, but I agree that I am not some sort of representative global south user. I don't think you are a representative global north user either (whatever that may mean). Our actions need not necessarily be examples for others to follow.
I was pointing out that there is a larger social pattern being reflected in the absence of engagement on the Fediverse. Among other things, that's based on my observation of the mastodon.social explore section. That does not necessarily invalidate your guess that fear of conflict may be stopping people from engaging. I am skeptical of that (in a statistical sense), based on my own experiences, but it is not something one can prove or disprove.
To put this differently: I guess there is a deep contradiction in me expressing deep skepticism about the sociopolitical relevance of the Fediverse, especially for the global south; and yet being here, and urging you to start a hubzilla instance and increase engagement by all possible means, and engaging in intense discussion about those means.
I suppose it can/does appear hypocritical.
At this point, I offer no justification or analysis; that's just the way it is.
When we're offering criticism, we need to ensure it's done in the correct place, and also that we discuss not only what is failing, but how it can be done better.

Free all Lebanese, Syrian and Palestinian Prisoners: Lebanon’s Captives in Zionist Jails
Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network calls upon all international solidarity movements, human rights advocates and organizers for political prisoners to advocate for the liberation of all Arab and Palestinian prisoners in Zionist jails, including the 16 Lebanese and at least four Syrian prisoners being held — with no official documentation as to their whereabouts, conditions or status.
In a new report on 5 August 2025, Lebanon’s Al-Akhbar newspaper reported the full known list of Lebanese political prisoners and detainees held captive by the Zionist occupation regime. Notably, the vast majority of these detainees have been abducted from Lebanon after the ceasefire on 27 November 2024 as part and parcel of the ongoing aggression against Lebanon.
The Lebanese prisoners include workers, fishers, shepherds, and freedom fighters. Many of the men were abducted as they returned with their families to their homes in the south of Lebanon from which they were evacuated at the height of the war. In fact, no one is certain if this list is fully complete, as the Zionist regime continues to violate the ceasefire on a daily basis, invading parts of southern Lebanon along the border with occupied Palestine, conducting drone attacks and assassinations, attacking fishermen in the Lebanese seas, and even seeking to erect military bases.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has been denied access to the men and the Zionist regime has not provided the identities of detainees to Lebanese military, intelligence or security officials, nor, reportedly, to the United Nations or even the United States. Instead, these Lebanese men are explicitly being held as hostages in order to attempt to extract concessions from Hezbollah and the Lebanese Resistance, as “every piece of information ahs a price.” The only source of information about the detainees has been released prisoners from Lebanon, who spoke about the men with whom they were held, informing their families about their conditions and circumstances.
They are being held alongside Palestinian prisoners, in the same dangerous, unhealthy and often life-threatening conditions. Palestinian prisoners in Zionist jails and military camps are routinely subjected to physical and sexual assault, psychological torture and abuse, sleep deprivation, starvation and denial of access to food, denial of medical care and medical mistreatment. Recent reports have highlighted the so-called “Rakevet” wing, an infamous sealed underground section in Ayalon Prison, opened especially for the confinement and torture of Palestinian resistance fighters. Zionist media reported that those held there under 24/7 surveillance, solitary confinement and constant conditions of physical and psychological torture are “high-risk prisoners from Hamas and Hezbollah’s Radwan force;” it is not clear if the six resistance detainees are held there or if there may be other, unknown and missing Lebanese being held hostage by the Zionist regime.
At the same time that “Israel” is engaged in daily, violent, illegal aggression against Lebanon, including extrajudicial assassinations, bombings, invasions, abductions and hostage-taking, the United States, other imperialist powers and even Arab and Lebanese reactionary forces are seeking to impose conditions on the resistance, confiscate the weapons of the resistance, “disarm Hezbollah,” impose normalization with Zionism and subjugate Lebanese defense to the same parties providing billions of dollars of weaponry and unlimited political, diplomatic and intelligence support to the Zionist regime, especially the U.S. These men are being held hostage in order to further those illegitimate demands and to attempt to impose Zionist-imperialist control over Lebanon, its people and its future.
Of course, this is the same tactic being used in occupied Palestine, where “Israeli” genocide has been ongoing for not only 22 months but 77 years, and the occupation is starving, bombing and killing the entire population in Gaza while imprisoning 10,800 Palestinians in torturous conditions — and the response of the U.S., France, Britain, Canada, Germany and the imperialist powers is to fund, arm and support the genocidaires while demanding the disarmament and subjugation of the Palestinian people and their resistance.
As Georges Abdallah said upon his liberation from French prisons after 41 years, “With resistance, the road home is never lost, for me or for my imprisoned fellow comrades. Their resilience inside depends on our steadfastness outside…The condition of freedom is to rally around the resistance.”
The struggle to free these Lebanese and Syrian prisoners in Zionist jails is inextricably linked with the struggle to free all Palestinian prisoners in Zionist jails, and with the liberation of Palestine, Lebanon and Syria. We call today for all supporters of Palestine, all who stand against genocide and occupation, to include these prisoners of freedom in our actions, mobilizations and solidarity. This is the moment — especially in the imperial core and states with complicit governments — to escalate and act, for Gaza, all of Palestine, the prisoners, and Lebanon. This also means openly confronting all attempts to impose subordination or defeat on the Palestinian and Lebanese people, particularly through demands for “disarmament” or confiscation of the weapons of the resistance. It is the resistance that is standing on the front lines against genocide, for self-determination, sovereignty and liberation.
We must demand instead the disarmament of the Zionist entity; a total two-way arms embargo; a full boycott in military, diplomatic, economic, academic, cultural, and sports arenas; prosecution of the genocidaires in international and Palestinian courts; the complete withdrawal of Zionist forces from Gaza, all of occupied Palestine, Lebanon and Syria; and the liberation of all of the Palestinian, Lebanese, and Syrian prisoners in Zionist, imperialist and reactionary prisons jailed for resisting genocide, occupation and colonialism. We do not have time to wait — this is the time for action.

NPA Unit Successfully Fights Off Attack By AFP Troopers In Capiz Province
The New People’s Army (NPA)-Central Panay (Jose Percival Estocada Jr Command) repelled the 12th IB’s attack on one of its units at the boundary of Barangay Artuz and Barangay Apero in the town of Tapaz, Capiz Province, on July 19. The NPA actively defended against the military troops by swiftly preparing and launching a counterattack.
“Taken by surprise, the military reacted like rabid dogs by indiscriminately firing shots,” the NPA-Central Panay said. To conceal their defeat, the 12th IB supported by the 3rd ID, fabricated myths of their so-called victory against the NPA.
The unit refuted the military’s media claim of having recovered high-caliber firearms and other materiel from the battlefield. “None of our comrades left any equipment behind, contrary to the military’s bragged lies. The social media released photos are fabrications of the military,” it said.
The NPA also refuted the military’s statement about a clash that encircled an NPA camp on June 16 in Sitio Naatig, Barangay Lahug, Tapaz. Also contrary to their claims, the soldiers did not recovered any weapons, explosives, other materiel, subversive documents, or personal belongings on that day. Also false is the 82nd IB’s subsequent claim of having excavated NPA weapons and other items in Barangay Dalagsaan, Libacao, Aklan Province.
“These are desperate acts and seriously worrisome increasing expertise of the 3rd ID military units in weaving lies,” the NPA-Central Panay said. They clearly aim to report “victory” to deceive the public and claim bounty.
These 3rd ID fictions are accompanied by real multiple human rights violations soldiers perpetrate during focused military operations. The butchers out-rightly disregard human rights and international humanitarian law to achieve a declaration of Stable Internal Peace and Security (SIPS) status throughout the island of Panay.
These military operations disrupt the people’s peaceful life. They also sow terror and anxiety, especially as the military forbids or limits farmers from accessing their farms to tend to their animals and crops.

So, most of my bras are bralettes or sport bras. I have some pads that I can insert into them to push my chest a little and kinda give them a good shape, and those also cover my nipples. Unfortunately the pads are falling apart and instead of buying new bras maybe there is something else.

I really regret all the things I didn't do because it was heavily discouraged for women. I was always interested in tech and computers, but everyone kept pushing me into learning things like spreadsheets and programming. I can't count how many "oh you like computers? why don't you learn excel then you can find a good position later! or programming, there should be more girls doing maths and programming!" I got as a girl even though I didn't care about either, but when I expressed any interest into physical repair or maintenance people would look at me like I might accidentally stab myself if I touched a screwdriver. Somehow it's fine and even encouraged for a woman to learn programming "because there should be more women in tech", but it's weird for a woman to want to take a computer apart or make her own ethernet cables.
I'd say it's a solid 50/50 these days. If I force myself to follow ambitious plans, anything to do with what others might think of me, or socialize too much when I actually should be resting I will certainly regret it. I try to access my feelings and find out what really matters to me. Those are the things that make me feel more alive. Hard to find the difference but I'm getting better at it. Most FOMO can go fuck itself these days.
Most of my regrets are things i didn't do, chances i didn't take. There are some people i hurt and poor decisions i made but largely there were reasons those things happened. With the things I didn't do it was almost always just fear.

Honestly I'm still in a rough place and I know I'm being a bit one-dimensonal with what I keep posting about but my relatively new found hobby in leatherworking is really making me happy. Its not just the fun and fulfillment of designing and making something but I've had so many nice comments on my work from so many people, family, friends, internet strangers and even from professionals who have praised me on the designs and execution to the point where they expressed interest to work with me and my patterns. I even made a new friend from it, an older lady whom I keep in frequent contact with over email about things we are making.
It has been my dream for a while now to have a side hustle with this and this feels like a good first potential step into that world.
It's not one dimensionsional at all, I genuinely really like seeing it! I'm dreadful at crafts, so I'm always interested in other people's skills. It's really nice seeing how you're progressing and I can already see improvement. The fact actual professionals are praising you shows how well you're doing.

Thank you! I've always kind of been interested in making stuff but really struggled to find the right one for me - one where I could do the actual activity but also get my own creativity involved rather than only following patterns or other designs and I feel ive really found it.
I'm ok, just stress from work and life in general... Hot water died, house needs sorting out etc, just boring life things piling up in existing insecurities and stresses.

That's me! Thank you, im actually quite proud of that one! I actually attended a taster course which was about 4 hours at a local leatherworking supply place where we made a card holder. If you can find one I'd recommend it, it is very hand holdy and you get a nice item at the end of it.
They supplied the tools and after gave us a big deal on buying the stuff we used, which i used for quite a few little projects before looking into other tools and hardware like rivets and fasteners.
So what I would suggest as a mimimum:
Stitching chisels for making holes - I like the slanted french style but diamond is also good
Craft knife or scalpel and plenty of spare blades
Metal ruler
Scratch awl - for marking on the leather directly
Leather needles - i.e blunt tipped
Thread - 0.6-1mm waxed polyester, cheap chinese ones on aliexpress or ebay is all I use
Mallet for hitting the chisels - i use a nylon round headed one with a short handle but any is good so long as it isnt metal
Self healing cutting mat
Poundo board - a thick rubber mat that wont damage your chisels
Edge burnisher
Glue - you can get some fancy stuff but I started with a big tin of standard contact adhesive from my local diy store
Fine grit sandpaper
Card - for tracing patterns onto, stuff from a parcel will do
You dont need to spend much money at all, most can be found super cheap. The chisels should be a bit more, avoid the mega cheap chinese cast things and get a set around the £15-20 ($20-25) mark and they will do a good job.
As for the leather, look around for suppliers that do offcut boxes (even better if you can visit in person). All of my stuff so far has been made exclusively from offcuts.

This is the saddle stitching tutorial I was talking about - - there are plenty of tutorials that do it the more "traditional" style with a stitching pony, a stitching awl and pricking irons, that really isn't necessary for beginners.
ebay.co.uk/itm/317041430785 is the kind of mallet I'm referring to, perfectly decent for the job and the price is more than acceptable.
For a decent tool quality-price balance for beginner stuff the "Wuta" branded stuff from China seems pretty decent - available on aliexpress or ebay - recommended for stuff like stitching chisels. Otherwise you roll the dice and get unbranded and unknown soft stuff that are instant paperweights or you are looking on the expensive professional side of things.
There are normally plenty of stores online that can help with a starter kit, you do tend to get quite a markup on it, most of the tools I realised were in my kit were just that - the mallet I linked above is less than £5 online but sold for £18 by the place I did the workshop at.

I mean, if i wasn't alive i wouldn't really notice but i also would't experience the joy of learning and mastering a new skill or hearing about new perspectives or grow as a person.
This is random, but chance encounters with animals. There's a paddock abutting my backyard that rarely gets used, but sometimes there are a couple of horses that get turned out into it. I'm always excited to see them and would love to meet them if they come to the fence line!
Also, I don't do this often, but yesterday I took myself out for tea. There's a cute tea cottage not too far away that offers a four-course afternoon tea. First course is quiche with dressed greens, second is a scone with clotted cream and lemon curd, third is a variety of finger sandwiches, and fourth course is a variety of dessert bites. So I brought my kindle and drank an entire pot of tea over the course of the meal. It was a real indulgence and definitely made me happy to be alive ;)

Like LadyButterfly said, there's just so many negative messaging and expectations directed at women. I don't think I'll ever measure up. Still, to quote a popular Millennial maxim, I am cringe but I am free.
As a tall girl (like, really tall), where to buy clothes that had long enough sleeves to fit. I was confused for a long time because there isn't a single clothing store to my knowledge in the U.S. that actual sells tall sizes in the store. So I was buying T-shirts, dresses, and unflattering mens' clothes. But a lot of those stores do have tall sizes, just on their website and in limited quantities. All my friends are shorter, so no one in my life knew this, and generally have been skeptical when I tell them that no brick-and-mortars actually have anything that fits.
Another thing I've learned is that I should be slow to jump on seasonal clothes, and that you save money in the long run by spending more on clothes, or by buying vintage clothes that existed before the brands enshittified. Most of my favorite tops are vintage Eddie Bauers, LL Beans, and Long Tall Sallys that I've carefully picked up from Poshmark over the years, and they've really stood the test of time.
Aghhggh I have the same issue, I'm perma-uncomfortable. for a while, like 15+ years ago I had jeans custom made for me and it was bliss, but custom clothes are just not really feasible for me now. Tops are also a struggle so.. I would have to investigate if I can use the platform you mention in my country (orrr learn how to sew but I know that 'aint gonna happen).

The power of saying no. I've always felt like the little white lie was great as a social lubricant - e.g., "Oh I'd love to come to your housewarming party but I've already got plans that day" when you know full well that you're available but you just don't wanna go.
But after a while, making excuses and remembering them later gets to be stressful. Especially for me because I'm horrible at lying lol. So I've learned to say things like "Thanks for inviting me, but I'm gonna sit this one out." It's a polite but clear 'no' and now I don't have to keep up a fib going forward.
To be fair, sometimes people don't like being told no, but I've been surprised to see that they'll usually accept it gracefully.
My family (just my dads side i guess?) is horrible at taking no for an answer. It took me most of my life to realise they needed to be firmly (and quite literally) told to fuck off in order for them to take a NO seriously. Learning that is probably the only reason i still have any kind of relationship with my dad, i don't care to interact with the rest of them.
