in reply to Renaud Chaput • • •- you get a notification when someone quotes you
- on their post, you have a new menu to remove their quote of your post
- you confirm, and your quote is removed and shown as having been retracted
- the quote is no longer displayed on the original post

If the quoted account does not support the FEP, no stamps will be issued, and the quote will not be displayed either, only the link (as before).

in reply to Renaud Chaput • • •For Mastodon API developers: there is no documentation (yet) for the APIs around composing quote posts, but this will come soon.
We added documentation for displaying quote posts (docs.joinmastodon.org/entities…), which is already supported in Mastodon 4.4 and we encourage you to support it in your clients as this will soon be available to all users.

If Quote Posts are visible only at v4.4.x and above, is this a legit Quote Post
--> sighting <--?
OK, from Bluesky, yeah, but still
And this is a screenshot so it's not responsive to mouse clicks or taps...

in reply to Renaud Chaput • • •I’m not in a great position to judge whether this approach addresses all relevant concerns around quote posts.
But it sure looks like the team went out of their way to try.
Thank you!

in reply to Renaud Chaput • • •fuck that shit. Why we putting Twitter's worst harassment tool into the supposedly better social media site?
Mastodon needs to stop chasing Twitter and start having an identity of its own, and replicating the hellsite 1:1 and hoping it will just magically be better clearly ain't working.
in reply to Mx Amber Alex (she/it) • • •@amberage One wonders why Gargon even bothers with user-controllable scopes (equivalent of client-side auth checks as it's federated network) when his target audience won't budge a bit. Exhibit A:

I hope that's all part of what you built 😀

in reply to Renaud Chaput • • •Unfortunately, this is yet another proprietary solution from and for Mastodon, and not a Fediverse solution.
It is a pseudo-solution, and no, Mastodon users cannot choose who can and may quote their posts. This only works within Mastodon; all other Fediverse services can continue to freely quote and make quoted posts, as they have done up to now.

It has taken into account the issues of people, it has been talked out and planned accordingly. Very good gob, I mean it.
In the landscape of today's news, this is totally very good news
