Inside the 'arms race' between #YouTube and ad blockers

Source: engadget.com/inside-the-arms-r…

Keeping pace with YouTube will likely become even more challenging next year, when Google’s #Chrome browser adopts the Manifest V3 standard, which significantly limits what #extensions are allowed to do. #Modras said that under Manifest V3, whenever an ad blocker wants to update its blocklist — again, something they may need to do multiple times a day — it will have to release a full #update and undergo a review “which can take anywhere between [a] few hours to even a few weeks.”

“Through #Manifest #V3, #Google will close the door for innovation in the ad #blocking landscape and introduce another layer of #gatekeeping that will slow down how #ad #blockers can react to new #ads and #online #tracking methods,” he said.

Anyone who knows #Firefox and still uses Chrome out of conviction is beyond help.

YouTube is a fantastic tool/source because the content there is so enormous. You can basically call it the video-version of Wikipedia. If you want to know something about something, chances are someone has made a video about it on that platform. As such, this vast encyclopaedia of videos on everything should be free and accessible to all just like Wikipedia. Wouldn't it be nice if each nations government had provided free premium access (ad-free, spy-free) to youtube for all its citizens? It wouldn't cost that much but the value for us citizens would be priceless. Let knowledge be free!

Stopped by my dads today to go over some highlights from World War 1. The amount that he covered is really just a small percentage, as there's so much more to see and learn about. As always, it's imperative that we preserve and teach history so that it doesn't repeat itself. Hope you enjoy this video!

Now that I see this, I recalled a conversation with a citizen from United States who was very sure there were two Americas, north and south. I told him that there iis not any natural division between north and south in America, and that means it is one continent, one America.

He looked so puzzled I could not continue the (very respectful) conversation. I just asked him to research about it.

The woman destroyed this country, this is insane.

i just spent the first 4 hours of my day watching the latest @Hbomberguy video about #plagiarism, it's good and you should obviously watch it.

anyway, here's what's wrong with it:

first, plagiarism is not stealing, it's fraud. thoughts aren't property, and culture would cease the moment we would take that notion too seriously. he even acknowledges that creative endeavors often start highly derivative. arguably still understating the role of imitation in creativity.

Fact: Out there on social media is an army of imposters, scammers and „collectors“ who copy content from original content creators without consent. Either to have many followers or to impersonate someone. They pretend to have forgotten the creators, or to be the one.

Now it is even harder to fight them off: Not only can everyone easily remove watermarks, but the newest method is to let AI redraw the photo or swap your face so it‘s no longer „you“. Platforms pretend it‘s not your artwork.

If you're wondering how putting the oil and gas guy in charge of COP28 is going.

Pourquoi ?

I assure you it’s not as complicated as y’all make it out to be.
Woman brain runs all day, everyday -> if she is one of the “good ones” 97% of that brain energy is expensed to others benefit.
Nobody reminds her to eat, nobody puts a clean towel in the bathroom for her, nobody says “thank you”, nobody says “in 15 mins it’s bedtime, time to wind down.”
Feed her, tell her she’s useful, run a bath and tuck her ass into bed with a forehead kiss.

This is the photo of a hand belonging to a London X-ray tech from 1900, showing the damage caused by radiation exposure.

Every morning they would calibrate the machines by taking an X-ray of their hands. As X-rays had only been discovered 5 years previously, people were not aware of the dangers of long term exposure to radiation so they thought it would be harmless to simply use their hands.
