Operating a business means navigating risks. While some, like economic changes, are expected, others, like fraud or conflicts of interest, can strike unexpectedly, damaging trust, finances, or stability. Secretarial services and company secretaries are critical in preventing these issues. Let’s dive into their role.
Risk management is about spotting and stopping problems before they grow. Fraud—think manipulated records or external scams—and conflicts of interest, where personal interests clash with company duties, are major threats. For example, an employee might approve a contract that benefits a relative.
These risks can lead to lawsuits, lost credibility, or financial damage. A company secretary provides the expertise to manage them.
A company secretary goes beyond paperwork. They’re a linchpin of compliance, transparency, and ethics. Their risk management contributions include:
A forward-thinking company secretary keeps risks in check.
Fraud often lurks in small details—a fake expense or a ghost supplier. Secretarial services fight it with:
Secretarial services make fraud harder to hide.
Conflicts of interest, like a manager favoring a friend’s firm without disclosure, can undermine trust. A company secretary tackles them by:
Their neutrality safeguards the company’s integrity.
See how secretarial services and company secretaries deliver:
A company noticed odd payments. The company secretary traced them to a fictitious vendor, halting the fraud and strengthening processes.
A board member pushed a supplier they co-owned. The company secretary caught it, ensuring recusal and a fair process.
These examples highlight the power of oversight.
To maximize secretarial services:
Collaboration is key to managing risks.
Fraud and conflicts of interest are persistent challenges, but company secretarial services and company secretaries are your partners in tackling them. Their expertise strengthens your business, often behind the scenes. Embracing these services isn’t just about dodging trouble—it’s about fostering a more ethical, resilient company.
Start leveraging secretarial services today.
Corporate secretarial services are an integral part of business management and compliance, particularly in the context of corporate secretarial services in Singapore.Entrust Public Accounting

Six soldiers were killed and another missing after an attack last Sunday by the FARC splinter group, the EMBF (General Staff of FARC Blocs and Fronts). This guerrilla group, led by Alexander Diaz, alias “Calarca,” claimed responsibility for the attack and produced a video showing guerrillas treating five captured soldiers after the attack in Guaviare province. The EMBF added that it acted in self-defense and was under constant attack from the army, despite ongoing peace negotiations with the government of President Gustavo Petro. The EMBF is a split from the largest FARC dissident organization, the EMC (Central Staff of the FARC). The disagreement centered on peace talks, including a ceasefire with the security forces.
For their part, commanders of the EMBF’s 33rd Catatumbo Front have agreed to concentrate their guerrillas in northeastern Colombia as part of peace negotiations with the government. The agreement to concentrate these fighters in a Temporary Regroupment Zone (ZRT) outside the town of Tibu was made public by President Gustavo Petro yesterday, Saturday. Once established, the ZRT will be protected by security forces, and the institutions will participate in the agreed territorial transformations. Residents of the Catatumbo region will also participate in the peace process, according to the agreement. Talks with the EMBF guerrillas in Catatumbo have apparently accelerated following the ELN offensive launched against them since January.

Here is the archived post: This is my first post.
The network never went down. From the first protocol, OpenMicroBlogging, it switched to the protocol OStatus (also by Evan), then to ActivityPub as most know it today. It's exactly the same social network since 2008!

Yeah.
Although there were already discussions about it as early as 2005 (and earlier), Loic and company had been hosting a Web3 conference in France ("Le Web3") for a few years back then. (The real Web3, not the crypto-Web3. < this is why many, if not most, Fediverse devs don't like crypto, the crypto enthusiasts stole "Web3")
The discussions revolved around: #LinkedData #SemanticWeb #SocialWeb and Federation. It was how Web2 was actually envisioned by Tim, father of WWW, to be a federated social network but big corps took over and Web2 became closed social networks.
Lastly, the first approaches were through tech that existing networks were encouraged to implement. For example, few people remember the "Open Social" set of technologies. The SNS platforms who applied Open Social were Hi5 and Google+ to mention two.
In addition, before the #Bluesky "Open Social"—to promote #ATproto —there already was an #OpenSocial. Before the current Social Web came to be, the label was already being used in the early 2000s for similar purposes but larger and more inclusive.
(Note: trying to remember things from back then)

LeWeb3 was named as a sequel to the previous conference which was called LeBlogs2. Remember, at that time Web 2.0 hadn't really taken off yet - browsers had only just implemented the XMLHTTPRequest API - so it wouldn't have made sense to already be talking about Web 3.0.

Laconica was renamed to StatusNet. Then later when Evan started working on PumpIO, he agreed to have it transferred to GNU. GNU then later merged StatusNet with another project and called it GNU Social.
There are still GNU Social instances around, but they are still running on the OStatus protocol. IIRC, there was work to implement ActivityPub in it but it seems it wasn't finished. Other than that, GNU Social instances are still around.
The network never went down.
You say that but, everything I ever posted on identica (and also on Evan's later OStatus site Status.Net
, which i was a paying customer of) went 404 just a few years later. 😢
When StatusNet shut down I was offered a MySQL dump, which is better than nothing for personal archival but not actually useful for setting up a new instance due to OStatus having DNS-based identity and lacking any concept for migrating to a new domain.
identi.ca/evan/note/6EZ4Jzp5RQ… notes that Evan's own first post is "still visible on Identi.ca today, although the URL format changed a few years ago, and the redirect plugin stopped working a few years after that." ... but for whatever reason he decided that most accounts (those inactive over a year, iiuc, which I was because I had moved to using StatusNet instead of identica) weren't worthy of migrating to his new pump.io architecture at all.
Here is some reporting about it from 2013: lwn.net/Articles/544347/
As an added bonus, to the extent that I can find some of my posts on archive.org, links in them were all automatically replaced (it was the style at the time) with redirects via Evan's URL shortening service ur1.ca
which is also now long-dead.
imo the deletion of most of the content in the proto-fediverse (PubSubHubbubiverse? 😂) was an enormous loss; I and many other people had years of great discussions on these sites which I wish we could revisit today.
The fact that ActivityPub now is still a thing where people must (be a sysadmin or) pick someone else's domain to marry their online identity to is even more sad. ActivityPub desperately needs to become content addressable and decouple identity from other responsibilities. This experiment (which i learned of via this post) from six years ago seemed like a huge step in the right direction, but I don't know if anyone is really working on solving these problems currently. 😢

It's true that bread stays bread regardless of the baker's political stance. But it's not like the nazi baker is the only one in town. Just get your bread from a different baker. Bread is bread. in reply to Pamasich • • •First, criteria for what one considers a nazi are open to interpretation and nowadays the bar is ridiculously low. We have a bicycle kitchen cooperative in Croatia where almost all of us volunteers hold leftist views, but there's an occasional boomer known to say problematic stuff as a shitty joke, or a grandma shows up with her son's bicycle that has one of the many Croatian totenkopf variants which the kid put up using same protocol as Marge with a potato. We never refuse to help them. I also engaged some of them in conversation and when you get down to the bottom of their exclusionary views you often find they're decent people with good moral compass and the stupid jokes or totenkopf stickers are adopted wholesale through the media or because of a personal tragedy.
Sure, the free market will fix it, very American thinking. Sometimes the cure is worse than the disease. Croatia is a good example because our fight for independence in the 90s saw the attempted rehabilitation of actual nazis from the 40s as freedom fighters and Croatian patriots, which means that (still, nowadays) whenever boomers have a celebration with alcohol, there'll be some singing about the superlative exploits of actual nazis. It's just the way our society currently is, it's still our society. The only way to change that is to engage with them and show them you hold a different opinion and are still a relatable human being. I have a feeling most lemmy users would just cancel their entire family if they were Croatian.

in reply to Lost_My_Mind • • •The idea there should be some definitive, canonical domain for the Fediverse is somewhat at odds with the core tenents of the Fediverse itself - decentralisation, and no single point of ownership or control. And on that basis, we absolutely should not care about a particular domain, or assign any level of 'specialness' to it.
I understand your worry - that some 'bad actor' could buy the domain and do something anti-Fediverse with it and mislead the public, but my response would be to simply not worry. The strength of the Fediverse is that we are diverse and unbothered by whatever nonsense some centralised platform is trying to pull. We don't have a profit motive. We don't care.
People who want to find the real Fediverse will absolutely still find us, all on their own, regardless of who owns some random domain 😀
