I am prepared.
What do I want?
Unprecedented.
On a grand scale.
Shake the MF up.
Make EVERYBODY come alert.
Wake the F up.
Realize the stakes ahead.
Realize the treachery behind.
Punish them.
Set examples.
Publicly.
Behavior.
Must become what it once was.
Return the genteel.
Kindness.
Regard.
Societal grace.
Less hard edges.
We have devolved.
Recognize that.
Turn back.
This is not advancement.
Truth.

President Maduro and China’s Xi Jinping Speak in Moscow (+Ibrahim Traoré) orinocotribune.com/president-m…

Michael Parenti: Well before hostilities ceased, the West was preparing to resume the crusade to make Eurasia safe for capitalism. Kim Philby, the British agent who defected to the USSR, reports that between the wars, the greater part of British intelligence’s resources 'devoted to the penetration of the Soviet Union.' When the defeat of the Axis was in sight, British espionage focused once again on 'Bolshevism.' The August 1943 minutes of the combined chiefs of staff, made public in London and Washington in 1970, reveal that ten months before the end of hostilities in Europe, 'military strategists discussed the possibility of repelling the Russians if they suddenly began overrunning Nazi Germany.' Both U.S. chief of staff General George Marshall and British chief of staff Sir Alan Brooke were interested in ascertaining whether Germany would help allied troops enter Europe 'to repel the Russians.' On the eve of the first atomic test, President Truman’s first thoughts were of the Russians: 'If (the atomic bomb) explodes, as I think it will, I’ll certainly have a hammer on those boys.' According to one visitor, Truman asserted that 'the Russians would soon be put in their places' and that the United States would then 'take the lead in running the world in the way that the world ought to be run.' General Groves, head of the Manhattan Project that developed the bomb, testified: 'There was never—from about two weeks from the time I took charge of the project—any illusion on my part but that Russia was the enemy and that the project was conducted on that basis. wordsmith.social/protestation/…

Quotes

  • Otto Kuusinen: As long as the working class wages only an economic struggle, the bourgeoisie does not see in that any great danger for itself; but when the working class organises politically, i.e., creates a political party which expresses its will as a class, the bourgeoisie begins seriously to fear for its rule. That is why reaction deals its main blows against the political party of the working class. At the same time, trying to undermine the party from within, capitalist propaganda endeavours to persuade the workers that they can do without their own party. One of the manifestations of bourgeois influence on the working class is the anarchist and anarcho-syndicalist denial of the leading role of a political party.

Linux kernel is leaving 486 CPUs behind, only 18 years after the last one made

I didn’t know whether to mark this NSFW or not but it’s time to buy a new computer if you haven’t upgraded in multiple decades.
in reply to peetabix

Actually, most devices today run an amd64 kernel (amd or intel cpus in typical desktops or servers) or arm (phones, some modern notebooks). Those architectures never supported 486 cpus.

I assume, the code removed is in the x86 branch, excluded when compiling for other architectures. As others said, I guess this is mostly about maintainance effort and testing.

(But then i don't know much about the kernels. Maybe there's some interplay between amd64 and ~~x64~~ x86 architectures.)

Masked ICE agents arrest the Mayor of Newark New Jersey, while he was going to check out an ICE detention facility in his city.

The facility is suspected of operating illegally. He was accompanied by members of Congress. Seeing this shit reminds me of Nazi Gestapo in WWII. Instilling fear by use of force. What kind of monster does that for a job & enjoys it? I don’t care what Tom Homan says. “Just following orders” didn’t cut it as a defense during the Nuremberg trials.

When you get what you wanted, the least you could do would be to appreciate it.
So many want instant results.
Patience.
Appreciate the gift.
Expertly crafted.
Fault.
The rush to find fault.
The impertinent.
They are the fools.
They will always be.
Take the time to number them.
Leave them.
Useless.
Of no purpose.
Move forward.
Always.
Move forward.

"How happy and prudent is the man who strives to be now in this life what he desires to be found at his death. For it will give a man great confidence of dying happily, if he has a perfect contempt of the world, a fervent desire to advance in virtue, a love for discipline, the spirit of penance, a prompt obedience, self-denial, and patience in bearing all adversities for the love of Christ."

—Thomas a Kempis, author of "The Imitation of Christ", from which this quote was taken.

i think i wasted my money on this used tire and also wasted my time fixing 2 patches in it lol. i'l keep it as a backup but it just feels real freakin flimsy, and also the other one is a cheapo brand that feels super flimsy and is dry rotted like it could easily shred on the highway.

toyo proxes are what i generally use and they're a lot more solid. i have never had a flat tire with those. they're not too pricey either.

I am completely baffled. Nothing seems laid out right to my eyes, and its borderline giving me a bleedin' migraine. I'm starting to see why so few use this, even though its essentially free to use on Linux etc.

The most beautiful burrito.

I’m heading back to Mountlake Terrace, and I decide to get dinner. Chipotle sounds reasonable, so I get a chicken burrito and a soft drink, figuring it would be good sources of protein for a post-orchi healing body.

I’m about to pay when a “mom” looking women tells the clerk “I’m paying for her meal”. I look over, and I have no idea who she is, but I say “Are you sure? Why thank you very much!” She smiles and wishes me a good evening.

So I get my Diet Coke, and sit down and the woman comes up and says “excuse me for a minute?” I figure she just paid my dinner, so I say thank you again and no problem.

She looks at me, and goes “I have a teenage daughter just like you.”.

Oh?

I notice the “Protect Trans Kids” pin on her jacket.

OH!!!

I smile and say “You must be very proud of her then”.

She smiles and says “you give me hope. I am so scared for her right now, but I can see her at your age right now, and that helps me.”

I start to cry a bit. Tell her that I’m in my late 50’s and have only been myself for a few years. How my mother is 90 and enjoying finally having a daughter.

I tell her “You will more than likely have your daughter longer than my mother will have hers. Cherish her. She’s a strong woman to become who and what she really is.”

She sniffs back tears of her own. Says thank you and she’s got to get her family’s food to them. And asks if she can give me a hug. Which is freely given.

I watch her leave, and sit down to my burrito. It is the most ineptly wrapped mess I’ve ever had and I give up trying to eat it properly and use a fork for the rest of it.

I’ve never had a burrito taste so wonderful before.

L’armée l’a ignoré.

We increasingly hear about China travellers who use #deltachat successfully where Whatsapp and Signal fail to work. Recently a family onboarded including a 85 old mother, to prepare for China travel. Everbody succeeded, no troubles!

#deltachat is all about resiliency and "just works" user experiences. Despite ongoing and prospective network blocking attempts, our apps manage to mitigate and remain working everywhere. Meanwhile we are preparing some next level resiliency/security features ;)

  • Democritus: Not from fear but from a sense of duty refrain from your sins.
  • Democritus: Many who have not learned wisdom live wisely, and many who do the basest deeds can make most learned speeches.
  • Democritus: Fools learn wisdom through misfortune.
  • Democritus: Strength of body is nobility in beasts of burden, strength of character is nobility in men.
  • Democritus: Neither art nor wisdom may be attained without learning.
  • Democritus: It is better to correct your own faults than those of another.
  • Democritus: Good means not (merely) not to do wrong, but rather not to desire to do wrong.
  • Democritus: Fame and wealth without wisdom are unsafe possessions.
  • Muammar Gaddafi: We will not surrender. We will defeat them by any means. We are ready for the fight, whether it will be a short or a long one. We will be victorious in the end. This assault is by a bunch of fascists who will end up in the dustbin of history.
  • Democritus: By convention sweet is sweet, bitter is bitter, hot is hot, cold is cold, color is color; but in truth there are only atoms and the void.
  • Democritus: We know nothing accurately in reality, but (only) as it changes according to the bodily condition, and the constitution of those things that flow upon (the body) and impinge upon it.
  • Democritus: Medicine heals diseases of the body, wisdom frees the soul from passions.
  • Democritus: Immoderate desire is the mark of a child, not a man.
  • Democritus: Men have fashioned an image of Chance as an excuse for their own stupidity.
  • Democritus: In a shared fish, there are no bones.
  • Democritus: Education is an ornament for the prosperous, a refuge for the unfortunate.
  • Democritus: The animal needing something knows how much it needs, the man does not.
  • Democritus: Moderation multiplies pleasures, and increases pleasure.
  • Democritus: If your desires are not great, a little will seem much to you; for small appetite makes poverty equivalent to wealth.
  • Democritus: No power and no treasure can outweigh the extension of our knowledge.
  • Democritus: In fact we do not know anything infallibly, but only that which changes according to the condition of our body and of the (influences) that reach and impinge upon it.
  • Democritus: Of practical wisdom these are the three fruits: to deliberate well, to speak to the point, to do what is right.
  • Democritus: 'Tis not in strength of body nor in gold that men find happiness, but in uprightness and in fulness of understanding.
  • Democritus: He who does wrong is more unhappy than he who suffers wrong.
  • Samuel P. Huntington: The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion (to which few members of other civilizations were converted) but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact; non-Westerners never do.
  • Marjori Palmer: One of the most morale-damaging aspects of the inflation was the "sack of Germany" that occurred at the height of the (1923) inflation. Anyone who possessed dollars or sterling was king in Germany. A few American dollars would allow a man to live like a millionaire. Foreigners swarmed into the country, buying up family treasures, estates, jewelry and art works at unbelievable low prices.
  • Lionel Robbins: It was the most colossal thing of its kind in history: and next probably to the Great War itself, it must bear responsibility for many of the political and economic difficulties of our generation. It destroyed the wealth of the more solid elements of German society: and left behind a moral and economic disequilibrium, a breeding ground for the disasters which have followed. Hitler is the foster child of the inflation.
  • Lenin: There is no trace of utopianism in Marx, in the sense that he made up or invented a 'new' society. No, he studied the birth of the new society out of the old, and the forms of transition from the latter to the former, as a natural-historical process. He examined the actual experience of a proletarian mass movement and tried to draw practical lessons from it.
  • Che Guevara: Many will call me an adventurer - and that I am, only one of a different sort: one of those who risks his skin to prove his platitudes.
  • Democritus: The first principles of the universe are atoms and empty space; everything else is merely thought to exist.
  • Bertolt Brecht: Lenin is enshrined In the large heart of the working class.

I'll be taking my stuff off there and hosting Faircamp, I reckon. Maybe dump the actually popular stuff over to Bandcamp for discovery purposes? (But is that just asking for this to happen again.)
