Sure some may trust the government more than others and some may think that someone like Donald Trump can fix it, but most people have a gut feeling that the government is lying on almost everything. Ok so I'm building a fence for my vegetable garden, and for the posts I'm using cedar 4x4s attached to metal anchor spikes. Do I need to treat the ends of the posts with anything to prevent rot or is their cedarness sufficient? The place I live has regular rain and snow and whatnot.

They are not shy about this, and have been saying so in their investor relations calls for years and years and years. Google developed language models for decades before consumer LLMs for search and advertising. That is the origin and heritage of language models - the reason they exist is advertising.

@r343l Transforming access to information into an undifferentiated stream with no origin or voice is the perfect advertising surface. It escalates the logic of single bar search which also strips away the "boundedness" of search - whatever is on the page is what's out there - but you could still discern between the sources even if the ranking was influenced by advertising. Removing that step, having all information be equally plausible, and having no "escape valve" where you can go and find other information - since all the other sources of information closed down bc everyone is using the God Oracle, and the social media sites are a different kind of isolation chamber - is the truest expression of informational power as extraction.
