I've been doing a lot of thinking around the nature of trust. I received the highly beneficial advice to think over who the most trustworthy people actually are, in my life. A diagram that looks like a bullseye was drawn, and I was invited to fill in actual names of people I know - where do they belong within the rings of the bullseye? The people in the middle are the most trustworthy, and the outermost rings are where the least trustworthy names go.
It was difficult to decide who's name belonged in which ring of the bullseye. So I assigned numbers to the rings of the bullseye. 1 was in the middle, 9 was right outside the bullseye. I then made a list of all the people I knew. I assigned them all numbers, then thought over the numbers, occasionally changing a number a little more or less.
When I was finished, I described the meaning of all the numbers, 1 through 9. This labeling made the most sense to me, to give more meaning to these numbers. Here they are:
1. Deep trust. Someone who totally accepts you as you are.
2. Someone who wouldn't betray you, has affinity with you, but you can't say they totally accept you as you are. They'd like to see you change.
3. A friend with a solid character, but affinity? Maybe.
4. A "fair-weather friend".
5. Any random stranger on the street. No positive or negative to speak of; still undefined and mysterious. No basis of judgement yet.
6. Negativity starts here, but it's very subtle and insidious; well hidden. Psychological predation and deception begins here. Plays mind games. Wants to come out looking better than you. Is certainly a "frenemy" or perhaps even worse, wants to turn you into a "flying monkey". A 6 has the mind of a perfect salesman or ambassador. Uses a lot of paltering; deceptive framing of everything. Plays on emotions a lot, seldom facts, unless they fit a narrative.

yeah i dont know why people think ardour is so hard to learn. the first time i tried (circa roughly 2012?) was hard af. i came back to it in 2016 and its an incredibly mature piece of software.
@benda I've used (and loved, and hated) a lot of DAWs, and I totally agree! It's pretty great. There's a lot about it that's naturally not as slick as commercial DAWs, but there's so much logic in it that isn't in other DAWs. (Such as... Logic.)
@benda I tried making a switch to MixBus 32C (commercial implementation of Ardour) when version 8 came out. It couldn’t handle recording or playback of 24 tracks, plus it had issues with autocorrection of tempo & key signatures on external loops. So now I’m just using it as a platform for mixing, and for that task I love it. The EQ & built in limit/compress is awesome, the mix bussing is awesome and the saturation is awesome.
@GuitarSith @benda Yeah, all I'm doing in the DAW these days is very minimal mixing. I love Bitwig, but I don't love it for mixing. Somehow I've just never connected with Reaper. So Ardour it is for now!
@benda I’ve upgraded to version 10 but haven’t really played with it too much. Yet. Can’t afford to upgrade to 11 at the moment (nice thing about Logic is I haven’t paid for any upgrades since purchasing version 10 back in 2013). Hopefully they’ve improved the CPU loads, especially since Harrison is now a subsidiary of SSL.
@GuitarSith @benda I don't know where they started, but it seems a little heavy to me.
That said, I haven't really put either ardour or mixbus to the test, so I can't be sure how it performs under load. And CPU metering in DAWs is so quirky. I suspect they all do it differently.
@GuitarSith yeah im still rolling on mixbus v 9 bc im not purchasing software from ssl. but i def have projects that large and didnt have problems with tracking. maybe you're setting the buffer too small? but yeah if this version of mixbus gets tiring for me im going straight back to ardour fulltime. i just really like having an EQ and comp that i like and use built right into the mixer screen. @PaulDavisTheFirst think theres a way we can hack some EQ knobs into ardour's mixer?
@benda I’ve been working in Logic since version 3 when EMagic was still developing it, so I know it really well. I tend to struggle in other DAW’s because I find their workflow so different from what I’m familiar with. I can mix in Logic, but I find that MixBus just works so much better. It feels so much more like my analog days, which I really appreciate.

@LandedGentry You can partition a thumb drive and install just as if it was a hard drive. I create thumb drives this way mainly for restoration of a system is something gets broken to where it can't boot, kernel corrupted, initramfs, etc.

@Spirillen Question, I've never seen Lorde perform and the videos don't show this either, but I can hear there is more than once voice there.
