US expected to block Gaza ceasefire vote at Security Council (New Indian Express, 2025-06-04)
newindianexpress.com/world/202…
———
>> The new resolution, seen by AFP, "demands an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire in Gaza respected by all parties."
>> It also calls for the "immediate, dignified and unconditional release of all hostages held by Hamas and other groups."
>> … the resolution additionally demands the lifting of all restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
>> It will be put to vote at 4:00 pm Wednesday (2000 GMT), but several diplomats indicated to AFP that they expected the United States to wield its veto power.
>> They added that the representatives from the 10 elected members of the Council, who will introduce the text, tried in vain to negotiate with the American side…

US expected to block Gaza ceasefire vote at Security Council
UNITED STATES: The UN Security Council will vote Wednesday on a resolution calling for a ceasefire and unrestricted humanitarian access in Gaza, a measure expecAFP (The New Indian Express)
There is absolutely nothing to stop the UN from disbanding the current UNSC and forming a new one without the United States, or at the very least stripping Russia and the US of their veto powers. Even if it was formed as part of the UN charter then hell, fucking change the charter! Rip the fucking charter up and start something new that reflects today's reality and not the reality of 80 years ago. 2025 is a vastly different world than 1945.

corsicanguppy doesn't like this.
When Yiffit shutdown, Wander archived everything. Though I am not sure how or where... But it kinda tells me that without manually doing something with it, it will probably be lost.
Then again, the other day someone had replied to a post on a community on Yiffit. Can't log in to the instance, or make new top level posts, but navigating directly to an old link still apparently works and you can reply and everything. 🤷🏻♂️

For a practical test, search for kbin.social
(and then ctrl+f for it also to get the direct results). Or, just look at a community: !kbinMeta@kbin.social
The only thing that appears missing is the ~~avatars~~ images. Though I assume the text content is doomed in the long-run when it comes to new instances, as I doubt re-federation (3rd-party federation) is a thing. Unless of course, someone manually crossposts said content.

So, you can run an application in Docker that expects to be running on a different distro from what you use (say Ubuntu Jenkins but actually running on Debian). The environment that the applications run in are called “containers”. Mostly they contain the filesystem layout and application libraries that the app expects.
Docker itself is designed to sandbox the application away from your host system. A related technology, Distrobox, uses the same containers but in a way that the applications know they are running on your system with full access to your display manager and home directory.
I run an Arch Distrobox on every distro that I use. This allows me full access to all the Arch repos and the AUR even on other distros ( eg. Alpine, Chinese Linux, or Debian).
Flatpak also uses containers and so you can consider Distrobox as a Flatpak alternative. Flatpak containers are not the same as those that Docker uses but they rely on the same underlying Linux kernel features to do what they do. In Flatpak, you are essentially running the Freedesktop distro on top of your host distro (so much like Distrobox with the guest distro chosen for you).

pacman
is enough either have all the time in the Universe to configure the miniscule knobs or have never done serious development with multi-platform/compiler deployments. controlling which compilers are used for which packages inpacman
(or any other default package manager for that matter) is a headache. having multiple versions of non-conflictinggcc
,llvm
,cuda
etc is priceless and very easy with brew.elitism aside,
brew
is genuinely a good package manager when it comes to imperative ones. I still use it on my desktoparch
extensively. ofc, if you have nix, there is really no good reason for it (and I'm not even sure it's possible).PS. "but you can use docker" -- not if you want to have the same performance especially on GPUs. also have you ever tried containerizing HIP? it's a frigging nightmare.
