What we are seeing in #Gaza today was baked into the state of Israel ever since its inception.
All those dead kids on your social media feed are the fruit of a tree whose seed was planted after the second world war. That tree has been bearing more and more fruit, and it will continue to for as long as it remains standing. Because that’s just the kind of tree it is. The only kind of tree it ever could have been.Saying “I support Israel but I don’t support the actions of #Netanyahu in Gaza” is like saying “I like this apple tree but only when it sprouts coconuts instead of apples.” That is not the kind of tree it is. Israel’s supporters avoid confronting obvious truths like these. Support for Israel depends on mass-scale psychological compartmentalization. Everything about it revolves around avoiding unpleasant truths instead of deeply and viscerally reckoning with them.Averting the eyes from the video footage of Israel’s atrocities in Gaza. Averting the eyes from the contradictions between the values they purport to hold and everything Israel is as a state. Averting the eyes from the mountains upon mountains of evidence staring us all in the face. That’s the only way support for Israel is able to continue.
In order to become a truth-driven species, we need to stop hiding from uncomfortable truths. And one of our favorite hiding places for uncomfortable truths at this point in #history is the modern state of Israel, and the western empire’s support for it.

Well crap. Foxglove popped up in my yard.
Why is there more info on how to cultivate it than remove it? The AI bloat is not helping me sort through actual risk in touching it to rip it out.
I assume it should not be composted, am I incorrect? If drinking the water from a vase of foxglove can kill a small child, it would follow that you shouldn't put it in your compost, right?
I get that it's pretty, but why would anyone want to have digitalis growing in their yards? It's a literal heart stopper. Used in heart medications.

NOT SURE THIS IS A GOOD IDEA, but I have a friend who has a vendetta against jimson weed. Every time he sees it, he layers up a bunch of plastic bags, and rips it out using said bags to cover his hands. Then he uses the bags as a receptacle and just throws it in the trash.
EDIT: Now that I've typed that in and submitted, it sounds like a bad idea, and I think I'm going to check on my friend.
Sounds like that could actually work though. Digitalis can be absorbed through the skin (not super likely, but with my history of reacting to plants, I take no chances with poisonous ones), and I don't think it's like a pineapple that will eat through plastic.

was it worth 2 days of suffering and about $300 in parts and tools? absolutely cause the other day i realized how scorching hot the all black interior of that thing is going to get after parking it outside in the sun for a short time.
as a bonus i ended up with some new sets of snap ring pliers, and a dedicated serpentine belt tensioner tool and some stubby sockets. also fixed that last ugly little bumper sag in the front, cleaned some gunk off the alternator and the engine block, and mitigated a bit of rust in the frame while i was in there.
all in all not a bad result. just really glad i didn't screw something up and have to take stuff apart again which has definitely happened before
i figure that would have cost over $1k at the dealer since a lot of stuff has to come out to access the AC compressor, and i had to raise the engine slightly.
feeling pretty chuffed though after a test drive. this is gona make my summer suck a lot less driving to and from the property with AC

Boiling distilled water in my new borosilicate glass stove-to-fridge pitcher. Sometimes I live on the edge and do nasal lavage with distilled water STRAIGHT FROM THE GALLON JUG!!! But if I wanna be really anal like other people trying to stay on top of their bronchiectasis, I gotta boil it for 11 minutes first, because technically even bottled distilled water isn't sterile.
Bronchiectasis makes one vulnerable to infections of otherwise "friendly" bacteria in the air, soil, and water, so we're supposed to sterilize everything all the time. It's of course impossible to sterilize one's environment and I wonder how hard I should try. It's like acquired OCD. Trying to balance mental health with physical.
Anyway I got this pitcher you can boil water in on the stove, which is weird and fascinating and I keep imagining it shattering but so far so good.

I got a GPD Win Max 2 last year, with 64GB RAM, an eight-core Ryzen and an RTX-capable GPU, it's a beast of a machine.
The start menu still takes a second to open. The explorer menu is loading in after the window has opened. Doing a right-click to open context menus also takes longer than it should take (and it's noticeably quicker when you bring the old context menus back). Every time you do an action in Windows 11 it feels like an old geezer gets up from his wheelchair, fights a cough attack and almost collapses while trying to go to the bathroom.
I once read that the new start menu and those fancy explorer ribbons and context menus are written in React, so I guess the rendering engine is just a massive bloated browser nowadays that puts your system under way more load than it needs to.
Compared to that, Fedora 42 is blazingly fast on this machine. With a Samsung SSD the whole thing was installed in five minutes and KDE Plasma is just so snappy - everything opens instantly and it never feels like my machine needs to think for a second before displaying something. Now that we've also reached higher FPS with Proton in some scenarious, there is no good reason for me to even use Windows anymore.

Talk to your admins to see if you can speed it up. One of my work machines has a 8th gen Intel i5 with 48gb of ram and it is quick and snappy.
