About 6 years ago. I went on one of those team building company retreat things. It was outdoors, on a hot summer day. One of my coworkers arrived in long gloves and a jacket.
At the time, there were reports of some bug bite that somehow made people allergic to meat. This person did not want to risk getting bit.
People who are hysterically afraid of germs exist.

Unknown parent • • •@Peaceandprosperity — ugh. Your poor friend!
If i had a choice between severe Lyme and severe AGS, I’m grateful at least to have the second, since I can take active measures to avoid getting symptoms. (Although airborne triggers drastically limit what I can do/where I can go).

Symptoms start within seconds of exposure, which include some combination of itching lips, hoarse and tight throat, dizziness, brain fog, joint pain in fingers and toes, gut pain and need to have diarrhea. (They vary from person to person, like some get hives, headaches, itchy skin…)

If I get away pretty quickly, the symptoms subside within an hour or so. Every once in awhile I’ll try to tolerate it for several minutes (like recently, to be at a wedding ceremony), but it gets increasingly uncomfortable. And one time last fall my blood pressure dropped hard, I froze up and couldn’t move (maybe from hypoxia?), and nearly passed out. I probably should have used my epi-pen that time, but wasn’t thinking clearly.

It’s drastically limited where I can go: no restaurants, convenience stores, friend’s houses, outdoor areas with BBQ smoke or other strong food smells in the air, and even some grocery stores with deli grills or meat smokers. I also haven’t tried flying, since it would be pretty impossible to avoid food smells in the airport and airplane. And I wonder what they would do with me if I ever had to be admitted into a hospital for an emergency. Pretty wild.

Supposedly only 5-10% of people with AGS are airborne reactive. I know several other people with AGS who get at least mild symptoms from airborne exposures.

I’ve read about such a wide variety of foods people can have airborne reactions too, including corn, seafood, soy, and of course peanuts and other tree nuts. Citrus is one I’d not heard of yet!
If you don’t mind sharing, I’m curious to know, do you start getting anaphylactic symptoms or is it more like a hay fever reaction?

It’s interesting to me that your triggers both involve high histamine. Fresh shrimp/seafood has generally accumulated high levels by the time it’s sold or eaten (I only eat frozen), and citrus causes histamine release.
Now I’ll be wondering if maybe my histamine could be increased through airborne exposure. 🤔

SAAT acupuncture treatment seems to be working well for lots of people with AGS. (Though not for me, unfortunately.). It’s actually pretty much the only allopathic or alternative treatment that seems to help so far.
Might be worth looking into for your situation?
