Now imagine how the parents of Uvalde felt. Police showed up, and not only did nothing, but actively prevented OTHER parents, who were showing up to storm the grounds to shoot the shooter themselves. But the police protected the shooter, causing the deaths of more kids. If memory serves me right, 12 kids had died before parents showed up. And something like 37 died by days end.
Meaning, even if the police did nothing, and allowed the parents to go through, parents would have shot the shooter and saved 25 more kids.
Imagine knowing your kid is dead because police were afraid.
I doubt it. American parents have their kids shot to pieces at schools and do nothing about it, assuming you're an american I have my doubts you'd make any effort towards justice.
Everyone talks like they're Liam Neeson from 'Taken' but the reality is no schools or ICE facilities were burned down by any parent or member of the community who's children were abducted by unidentified feds. The government aren't afraid because people like you blow hot air all day but they call your bluff over and over and win every time, I see a lot of talk but only two examples of somebody ante-ing up and doing something about it, and one of them missed by centimeters.

In all honesty I agree with your initial statement in that I too would and do want proper justice for crimes against children, but then I'm immediately smacked in the face by the reality that we aren't even close to seeing any of that kind of justice and all our tough talk doesn't scare them one bit. Federated Services are services which many instances form a network to provide a greater whole than the sum of their parts, each participant in the Fediverse is an “instance”. A message or other item made available on one instance is visible and available on other instances.
We make these services available to all people who do not abuse it in order to promote the values of Free Speech, and those of the United States Constitution First Amendment. A free republic is not possible without free speech and commercial mainstream media do not provide it. There are numerous federated services available, we offer Macrobloging platform Friendica, Hubzilla; Microbloging services Mastodon, Misskey, a federated search engine, Yacy, and a federated cloud service, Nextcloud.
Macrobloging services are message systems that allow long form posts similar in format to Facebook. These allow for works of fiction, poetry, technical papers, news items, short stories, and more. These formats are most useful for discussion of social issues.
Microbloging services allow only short form posts similar in format to Twitter. While you can link to larger articles elsewhere, you have a relatively short character limit and so can not post them directly.
Censorship, is handled much different on the fediverse than on mainstream media like Twitter or Facebook. On the fediverse, each individual instance is responsible for content available on that instance, but does not censor the rest of the network. Thus if you find the rules of one instance too constraining you can move to another.
Federated search engines are analogous to federated message systems in that each instance chooses what portion of the internet it wants to crawl. When you enter a search term, the local instance queries all of the federated instances, collates and sorts the results and presents them to you. As with messages, each instance can have it’s own censorship policies but no one instance can censor the entire network.
Given the wild-west nature of the fediverse, it is probably not suitable for children under 14, and you’re guaranteed to find some material that will offend virtually everyone. With federated search engines, material that is inappropriate will usually be flagged sensitive or nsfw (not safe for work) so as long as you don’t expand material marked as such, you can avoid this sort of material. There are occasionally people who violate these rules, we do our best to remove such individuals none the less some will get through.

Friendica.Eskimo.Com Friendica is a decentralized long format macrobloging message network. It is similar in format to facebook however there is no centralized censorship. Also, it is able to federate with all other federated message systems which use ActivityPub protocol and also we have extensions that allow it to speak to several other networks via other protocols.
Hubzilla.Eskimo.Com Hubzilla is similar in message format to Friendica in that it allows long posts. However, it specializes in it’s ability to provide connectivity to multiple protocols and so we include it in our mix of federated services primarily for the better connectivity it offers. Hubzilla provides a great deal of interoperability between many networks though ActivityPub is still it’s primary protocol. Hubzilla gives you a greater degree of control over privacy than some of the other networks. You can create private channels that are served between hubzilla instances and other compatible instances.
Mastodon.Eskimo.Com Mastodon is first and foremost an alternative to Twitter. While Twitter has Tweets, Mastodon has Toots. The format is very similar. Mastodon toots have a limit of 500 characters. Similar to the short limit of Twitter. This is why this platform is referred to as a Microbloging format. Mastodon interacts with other ActivityPub instances however when a long form blog post from another instance arrives, you are only shown a short portion with a link to follow to see the full post on the originating site.
NextCloud.Eskimo.Com If you are a customer of Eskimo North, your login credentials will work without a domain extension to access Nextcloud. If you are not a customer you can apply for a Nextcloud account using your choice of login and password, in this case the login should include your originating network. Some features require an Eskimo North shell account to take full advantage of.
Pixelfed.Eskimo.Com Pixelfed is a federated pixel gallery. A place where you can share your photos to the widest audience possible, and you can view what others have shared. Instance is new as of April 6th, 2025.
Yacy.Eskimo.Com Yacy is a federated search engine. There are several thousand instances on the Internet. Each instances crawls whatever portion of the web the administrator requested. It is also possible for the administrator of a site with relatively few resources to request a larger site to do crawls on their behalf. Unfortunately, it does not provide a method for an end user to initiate a crawl, but if you send e-mail to support@eskimo.com and request a crawl, we will initiate a crawl on your behalf.

« Environ 1.000 Tunisiens, en majorité des jeunes, participent à partir de ce lundi au « convoi Al-Soumoud », en direction de la Tunisie vers la frontière égypto-palestinienne », a averti Vanessa #Beeley dans un message sur son compte X.
Elle a souligné que l'objectif du groupe est de tenter de briser le siège imposé par Israël aux Palestiniens de Gaza depuis mars dernier.
Les organisateurs de cette campagne ont appelé les citoyens algériens et libyens à prendre part à l'accueil des participants lors du passage de ce convoi sur leurs territoires. "Ce convoi terrestre, qui rassemble des volontaires algériens, tunisiens et libyens, n'est pas la seule initiative", a-t-elle souligné.

The first thing is that Linux is everywhere and already used by professionals all around the world.
I could take the example of Android, which is the most popular smartphone OS in the world, and using a Linux kernel. I could turn to the absolute domination of Linux on the server space.
I could also point to every NAS out there, generally using a Linux kernel, if we look at IoT and small appliances, Linux also dominates the space. But it's not what people intend when talking about an OS. Generally, they mean that the Linux DESKTOP isn't ready for professionals.
The first obvious counter argument is developers. Linux is used by 47% of professional developers. That's higher than the market share of macOS among developers.
If we take the vast majority of people who will interact with a computer, what do they truly need in their day to day job? A web browser, an email client, an office suite, and a usable interface.
On that specific front, Linux has all that's needed. Whether it's KDE for an interface closer to Windows, or GNOME for the simplest thing to use possible, the Linux desktop IS one of the most usable out there.
In terms of web browsers, there's no question, we have them all. For email clients, we do lack Outlook, but the web interface might be enough for most people's needs, and if not, we have awesome clients that can replace Outlook: Evolution and Thunderbird.
LibreOffice might be a great option for a lot of people, but it does have some problems, let's face it. But LibreOffice isn't our only choice. For perfect compatibility, we have access to SoftMaker Office, now called FreeOffice, or to WPS Office.
Now, for media creation, Linux lacks all the Adobe programs. But that doesn't mean we don't have tools either. Davinci Resolve is a tool used by professionals and hollywood studios to edit videos, edit audio, and create virtual effects. It basically does what Audition, After Effects and Premiere do, in one single package. it's available on Linux.
We have Blender for VFX. Houdini, a tool used by VFX artists for simulations? It's on Linux. Maya? It's on Linux. Studio One, a professional DIgital Audio Workstation, just released a beta for Linux. We have inkscape, Ardour, Krita - one of the most popular digital drawing apps- OBS, PDF Studio for editing PDF documents, Bitwig, and a lot more.
Whether you like AI or not, it's happening. And AI is a professional domain in which Linux is the standard.
And that's the tip of the iceberg. Cybersecurity professionals mostly use Linux. Almost 100% of supercomputers used for any specific domain run Linux. The whole space industry runs on Linux. A bunch of military sytems run Linux.
The market share of Linux on the desktop is low, there's no denying that: it's listed at barely 3%, far below macOS or Windows. But this doesn't include another system: Chrome OS. And chrome OS has 3.9% market share on the desktop. Combined with non Chrome OS Linux ssytems, taht's almost 7%. it's still lower than proprietary OSes, but that's a LOT of computers running a Linux system.
Now, that doesn't mean Linux is ready for every professional out there. If you absolutely need certain software that's not available, then Linux won't work for you. But I'd argue that it's not necessarily a Linux problem: it has the tools needed to do the same job in most cases. It's just not the tools you're allowed to use, or want to use.

(And yes, all media outlets are reporting this story, and yes it feels plausible enough. But if you ever interacted with a code generator LLM the idea that can be faked by humans is very impractical at least. The speed at which they generate code is just out of reach, without a single typo for example).
