iran has nothing to gain from hiding the deaths, but also not much to lose. i dont understand why people cling to this notion that killing off leaders does anything to such movements/institutions. they can kill the Ayatollah himself. the Council will choose a new Ayatollah within a few hours and the system will continue as it has for 47 years.
Just like Hamas, Hezbollah, Ansar Allah.

Interesting, the coins are not issued by the Federal Reserve, but instead by the US Treasury.

Coins are still fake money, in that they are no longer backed by anything. They are issued by a government institution that is supposed to be "of the people", where the Federal Reserve has no such responsibility.

Clarification:

US Treasury coins are no longer real money... but silver and gold coins (along with other metals) are real money if valued at what those metals are trading at in the market.

US Treasury coins are currency.

Cash is useful to use, even the Federal Reserve tickets. It is at least a mostly private transaction, unlike credit cards or bank checks.

I did a tryout session at a pop choir tonight! Mixed feelings; singing was nice, teacher was very good, welcoming atmosphere.

But geez. Large group, in a small space, close together, I don't like!! 😅 both covid-wise and in terms of social overstimulation.. so tired afterwards 😩

Another thing that I had already noticed in the previous singing class.. and I guess it's in the nature of these things, but they separate the group into men and women, I get placed among the men, and so then when the teacher addresses your subgroups you get auto-misgendered constantly lol (I'm fine with "him" pronouns, but it's being called a man that I don't vibe with somehow.. or "sir" ("meneer") even worse lol)

I understand, it's the voice.. it's how it works in choirs, pragmatically. But it puts me off! 👩🏼‍🦱

Also socially it's weird.. the women largely basically ignore the men and the other way around, and the guys were all chummy with me as a potential new member, and I know they mean well, but I don't feel comfortable around them so much as I feel around women, and arghh!

It feels just odd to me that this is how society works I guess! at least in some groups..

With painting class, this wasn't a thing at all! So I guess it depends per groups/subculture!

bought one of the new snapdragon x elite laptops refurbished recently. obviously it came with windows 11 and i had to briefly use it to shrink the boot partition and disable bitlocker so i could install the ubuntu concept image on it.

The amount of advertising i was subjected to in that time was infuriating. not to mention the frankly arduous setup wizard.

Even with the slight bugginess of a "concept image" OS, the user experience is SOOOO much better than shitty horrible windows.

@gme If you are a journalist, you sometimes have to go to places you don't want to go as part of your job. This guide is specifically for journalists doing their jobs. It says so in my post and it says so in the guide. If you have other advice for journalists, you are welcome to write and publish your own guide and your thoughts on the matter will be given all of the consideration that they deserve.

Worked for almost 20 years in critical infrastructure (electric generation). We often had employees that had to go to China for work and business.

IT issued them burner phones and burner laptops. They were not allowed to use their normal business owned devices and were encouraged not to bring their personal devices when away on business.

I see the US today as no different than China.
