The #NoKings crowd in Fort Worth was probably twice as big as the Hand's Off protest from April. I'd say several thousand. I have no good shots of the crowd in the park or all the honking cars. But it was a festive and peaceful event.

So many older white liberals were raised in respectability politics and are terrified of speaking baldly. This is the NYT 'gotta hear both sides' effect. This is the overintellectualism of upper class liberals, wanting to 'learn all the facts and preserve neutrality'. They are afraid to speak truth and they are learning a painful lesson in their sideline complicity.
Seeing signage that calls a #fascist spade a fascist spade is so important for these reticent people to loosen up and let go of their fear of being 'biased'. We need people to pick a side and the people at protests that are displaying unequivocal denunciations are helping loosen up the minds of people who got rich and comfy in the white suburban 90s and still have cold feet about openly defying a dictator.
Signs are a great way for the protests to grow over time, as bystanders are drawn in by playful, incisive commentary. Its a great way to show that we can be simultaneously angry and have a sense of fun humanity. Its an open invitation to speak truth in a way that our society desperately respresses.
Lean into your craftiness. Learn a new artistic skill. Make it crass and cutting. Make it cutesy and playful. Make it showy and waterproof it. Be clever. Be incisive. Call out the bullshit in a relatable way.
I saw so many signs today that made me laugh and smile and grimace and churn and boil. I was selfishly basking in the compliments and had some great moments of #solidarity. That's truly what I felt today: solidarity with people from completely different backgrounds and that solidarity is so much easier with people who I know exactly where they stand. Complete strangers were much more friendly with me than they usually are because they knew where I stand.

To those citing polls of Israelis showing support for ethnic cleaning as justification for targeting Israeli civilians - there were also polls of Gazans showing support for the 7 Oct attacks. Neither justify targeting Israeli or Palestinian civilians. Advocate peace, not war crimes by either side.

I've been accused of using "AI" a few times recently, and I think I found out why — the fact is you will have to pry my em dashes from my cold, dead, probably still typing hands.
I think the people that claim any em-dashes have to be the work of AI have never actually used a word processor, let alone have never actually written anything of substance other than a comment on Reddit or a post on 4chan.
Word even will translate "---" into an em-dash. So will other software.
You can easily type an em dash on a Mac keyboard with the Option key.
On Windows I used to use "WinCompose" to easily insert an em dash.
Maybe I'm dating myself here (53) but when I was in high school and learning how to type we were taught there were three common types of dashes.
A "dash" (-). Used for hyphenating words.
An "en dash" (--). Used for a "series":
The 2nd World War occupied the World's consciousness between 1939--1945.
And an "em dash" (---). Used for various typographical purposes.

I admit em dashes may be stylistically over the top for a 500 character tweet or toot, but they've crept in from my other, longer writing. That's not an apology, just a clarification 🙂
Funnily enough, I find that en and em dashes are more easily available on my (Android) phone keyboard than on physical computer keyboards. Ive had to setup my own shortcuts for them on my laptop.

Just ran up the march to the front. The whole thing might be half a mile long, maybe more. Police only observing and blocking highway entrances so far.
The crowd is staying put. Still a ton of energy. Still 100% peaceful. We're seeing LAPD and the Marines getting busy in the background, clearly planning something.
