@benda I understand that point of view but the fact is that it's valid for almost every media channel. When accessing information and knowledge, people inevitably leave traces. Third-party agents can interfere with distribution systems and manipulate the message. Of course, digital technology makes this kind of interference much easier to perform. But the tools to escape surveillance are also way more. For instance, people can use a secure, no-logs VPN such as Mullvad or NordVPN to obtain a bit more privacy than by using Tor only.

If they had a natural disaster that destroyed a few homes, I might believe you, but the issue is that they are officially at war. I'm not qualified for an opinion on how this shit will go, but I don't think it's realistic to believe it will stop within the year. During a war I think rebuilding homes is not the top priority to the government unfortunately (and if it was, Israel would probably just bomb it again). Also, do you really think anyone internationally would notice, if not everyone who was impacted is taken care of? Finally, if you think any government has the best interest of its people in mind, I hope you reconsider that sometime.
@leomas im not concerned with talking in general about governments. as for would people internationally notice... im not sure what your point is. are we owed a report that we can approve or disapprove of? the support for the IR among the people there is only relevant factor. but if need data, you can look to the world bank who in spite of their bias will confirm poverty in Iran is a fraction of what it was pre-revolution. finally, (sorry i addressed all your points backwards--at work and my comp/phone are blowing up since the war started) whether it happens during the war, after the war, is again not something i made any claim to nor do i see the relevance, but sure. you are probably right that it won't the top priority at the moment. And I think that goes for both the IR and the people of Iran.

I did not expect a citation of the World Bank, but I'm sorry to be that guy, what report is that from, and which section? I looked through the openknowledge website on Iran and most general reports are at least 10 years old and the 2024 Economic monitor didn't sound great in the headings (I'm not that fast of a reader). Again, not making a judgement on how the war will go, but one of the possible outcomes is that the government will change in Iran, and the next one won't help the people. (No problem, I never expect people to answer, I often don't, since I get overwhelmed easily, or have to sleep during US times😂)

Sorry for being later than I thought, I'm having a pretty stressful time lately. I disagree with the judgement thing, while we obviously don't have full context for Iran's circumstances, I still think we should always challenge and judge power as much as possible to try and always push humanity further towards harmonious living and aiding each other, no matter where they live. The sanctions point is fair, but I think counting on Oil for Iran's economy was a bad move, which could have been in my opinion at least partly caused by the religious influence, if you want I can elaborate. Finally, the article (because of the sanctions I'il take it not being recent): It does seem like a mixed bag (I tried my best to ignore the neolib bullshit, but please correct me if some slipped in), while the poverty rates have developed positively, I do think the inequality they mentioned between ages (in employment) and sexes (hopefully don't have to elaborate) is a bad indicator for future development (not just economically, but also in society), so more nouanced than I was, my bad. Also, is the poverty rate indicator static? I feel like that should be adjusted over time. The last paragraph I just agree with.
