Small tabs on either side of the roll send signals to the bellows that then adjusts the playback position in real time. 100 years ago. Amazing tech. The device functions entirely by suction. It has no electronic components. I modified the device to operate from suction from a shop type vacuum cleaner, since using the pedals is ... tiring.
