Something that I noticed in the FOSS and decentralized tech movements (outside of the crypto space) is that there aren't that many incentives to get small businesses to become less dependent on Big Tech which I think is a problem. Small businesses are at the mercy of Big Tech services for web hosting, email, etc and most business owners aren't tech savvy enough to self-host or find alternatives.

I think this is a hole that should be filled by FOSS/decentralized tech developers and activists. There should be more easy to use tools for self-hosting, communication, and other things that small businesses need that are open-source and decentralized. Along with support and advocacy groups to help promote them. I think RetroShare and YunoHost are such tools that could be great for small businesses, but I rarely see any promotion for them.

Unfortunately, there seems to be an extreme anti-capitalist sentiment in the FOSS and decentralized tech communities and would be opposed to this. Personally, I think this is much different than something like Meta creating a fediverse instance with the plan to EEE it. Trying to fight for a decentralized future also means to get your local Mom & Pop shop off of Big Tech.

for example this post has 1.2k replies, but you can scroll to the end and won't see a single reply by a non-verified user. (i didn't actually count the replies to confirm that you're even seeing all 1.2k of them)

When I initially told people I was retiring months ago, it was funny that more than I expected reacted with “What will you do? I would be so bored!”

Since retiring, and albeit I’m still trading for fun 1-2 hours a day max, I’ve been so busy with hobbies and just living life

It’s almost like some people don’t have hobbies or don’t know how to enjoy life outside of stressing over work or dumb political/news shit. Hiking, golfing, traveling (domestically), reading, learning, etc. The list goes on

- Install alpine in a chroot
- enable the main and community repos (libgpiod is in community)

- delete the /boot/extlinux directory

- format an sdcard with two partitions: partition number one vfat, partition number two ext4
- copy /boot from the chroot to the sdcard's vfat partition
- copy everything else to the sdcard's ext4 partition
- insert the sd card and turn on the computer
- log in as root
- run rmmod dwmac_rk; gpioset -c 3 -t 100ms,100ms,0ms 23=1; modprobe dwmac_rk
- plug an ethernet cable in the computer if you don't have wifi
- install to nvme via setup-alpine
- check the resulting /boot/extlinux/extlinux.conf

- boot up / rock out

And apparently when the war started there were several countries allied with Iran that wanted to immediately join the conflict, but it was Iran that told them not to, as Iran hasn’t yet even used 1/3 of its true military capability.
