the article states that they saved $3.5 billion and were able to invest those savings into hiring people for more specialized roles that require human creativity and ingenuity. This is an article about how pivoting to genAI for certain tasks actually created more and better jobs for humans.
I don't see this applying to many other companies who would rather use the savings to "reward" executives and investors.

The Israeli Civil Administration’s Supreme Planning Council approved a decision this week that threatens to escalate displacement policies in “Firing Zone 918” in the South Hebron Hills. Under the new ruling, a military commander’s notice alone can now dismiss any planning or legal proceedings that Palestinian residents of Masafer Yatta seek to pursue.

This precedent-setting change aims to preemptively block residents’ attempts to defend their homes, lands, and schools in villages including Sfai, al-Majaz, Jinba, Tuba, Thuban, al-Halawa, al-Markaz, and al-Fakhit. Legal sources anticipate a wave of court dismissals in coming weeks, with demolitions expected soon, similar to recent violent demolition operations in Khalet a-Daba that erased the village entirely.

Did some very midsummer (juhannus) cooking today.

Fish Wallenbergs with new potatoes, a traditional egg sauce (bechamel based) and new season cabbage slaw with lemon, olive oil & dill.

Our fishing upstrairs neighbour who brings us fish in exchance for sourdough bread brought us some pike and perch last week. Had some zander in the freezer and so these three kinds of lake fish cakes were born. Panko crusted gourgeousness.😋

Selon les chercheurs de Qualys, l’exploitation fonctionne sur toutes les versions non patchées, donc si vous n’avez pas fait de mise à jour de sécurité depuis le 17 juin 2025, vous êtes vulnérables.

Le plus chiant dans cette affaire, c’est pas tant la faille en elle-même (on en découvre tous les jours), mais c’est surtout sa simplicité de mise en exploitation. Linux est quand même un système ultra-sécurisé où chaque privilège est accordé au compte-gouttes, et là, pouf, 2 services par défaut suffisent pour transformer n’importe qui en administrateur système.

I have a zero turn radius lawnmower. So today I cut the grass in spirals. Started in a section spun in place and worked my way out. It was fun but not very efficient. I had to go back and mow all the triangles between the spirals. My BIL came by to check on his garden. "You cut your lawn in circles?, he asked. I made my best bewildered look and asked "doesn't everybody?" He just shook his head and looked disgusted, like I had committed some terrible immorality. It amused me.

My son (22) has just completed BSc "Cybercrime and IT Security" at SETU (Carlow). He doesn't have his final results yet but should get a decent honours grade.

He also has a bit of relevant work experience from a couple of placements.
