(Germany) Incendiary Attack on 36 Vans of War Collaborators Telekom and Amazon


[On the night of Monday to Tuesday, June 17 in Berlin, 36 vans of the war collaborators Telekom and Amazon went up in flames: 17 vehicles of the first company in the Lichtenberg neighborhood, and 19 vehicles of the second in the Britz neighborhood, a few minutes apart, around 3 a.m. Below we reproduce the statement of this antimilitarist attack published in de.indymedia on the same day].

Antimilitarist attack against collaborators with the army, Amazon and Telekom

Last night, several vans of Amazon and Telekom were set on fire in the south (Britz district) and east (Lichtenberg district) of Berlin. Neither the fences nor the cameras managed to prevent the antimilitarists from attacking these two army collaborators. Both companies benefit greatly from widespread militarization and wars. That is why it is right to sabotage them.

Instead of a champagne reception, we opted to celebrate the opening of Amazon-Tower with charred shells. But we find this gruesome building repulsive not only because of its impact on the neighborhood, but also because of all the other dirty tricks of this tech giant, and in particular because of its active participation in war and genocide. Amazon’s servers and cloud services are used by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) to store the massive amounts of data resulting from mass surveillance of the Palestinian population. Through its subsidiary Amazon Web Systems (AWS), Amazon is one of the IDF partners. In 2021, AWS, Google, and Microsoft signed contracts with the IDF to use their servers (Project Nimbus). Since the Israeli invasion and the complete destruction of the Gaza Strip that it caused, the IDF needs much greater computing capacity to be able to use its military AI programs.

AWS servers are mainly used for this. The IDF and AWS work very closely together and consult on specific airstrikes. This means that the annihilation and starvation of Gaza that is taking place before our very eyes, the planned forced displacement of the entire population, and the AI-based slaughter and maiming of hundreds of thousands of people, many of them children, are calculated and stored on Amazon Web Services servers. But Amazon is also militarily active in other areas: as a major trading partner of the U.S. military, for example, and as a generous sponsor of King Trump’s military parade in Washington last Saturday. The State and Capital moving in the same direction towards fascism.

War, militarization, genocide, and the policy of genocide and imperialism are now based on high technology. To function, the state and the global military system need a very complex technological infrastructure. In Germany, it is managed and developed by the state-owned company Telekom. No war works without technology, and the German Federal Armed Forces benefit greatly from the militarization taking place around the world. Telekom supports the Federal Army in the field of cyber defense and trains soldiers in IT. Companies like Telekom benefit from rearmament, the $400 billion government budget to make people “fit for war” and the reintroduction of military service.

Similarly, Telekom is making money as a computer provider to border authorities, police and intelligence services, in the war against refugees at Europe’s external borders and in the growing militarization at home. Nor have we forgotten that, as one of the world’s largest telecommunications providers thanks to its acquisition of the Greek telephone operator OTE as part of the Troika’s measures, Telekom has made a name for itself as one of the world’s leading telecommunications providers. Telekom was one of the main beneficiaries of the wave of massive privatizations during the Greek crisis. For this reason, the company has already attracted criticism, both here and elsewhere, becoming the target of numerous attacks.

In addition, through T-Systems, Telekom is doing business with techno-fascist Elon Musk’s Starlink company. T-Systems offers the U.S. and other countries a service that uses thousands of Starlink satellites to send text messages into space despite white areas. Elon Musk is not just a shining fascist, he is the richest man in the world, and with his megalomaniac projects he wants to colonize not only Earth, but also space and the planet Mars. In the race to see which macho has the most satellites and the most power, he is closely followed by Amazon boss Jeff Bezos with his Project Kuiper satellite project (which will soon include 3,200 satellites). These two companies now resemble non-state empires that are also increasingly important in military terms: Starlink not only supports Ukraine and Israel in their military attacks with data – Musk also has the power to prevent these same attacks by making Starlink data available. So Musk and Bezos, with their network of technocratic companies, not only benefit from the war, but can now also determine its course.

We believe that today, as yesterday, it is right to attack the collaborators of the army. What is surprising is not that antimilitarists attack military enterprises, but that not all those who abhor wars and massacres attack military enterprises. What is surprising is not that the antimilitarists want to sabotage the war, but that all those who are against militarization and rearmament do not do their bit to contribute to disarmament. What is surprising is not that people are deeply affected by the genocide and the war of extermination in Gaza and the forced displacement of Palestinians from the West Bank, but that half the world has apparently become accustomed to seeing a far-right government commit genocide. What is surprising is not that so many people are trying to stop this genocide, but that so few are trying to burn to the ground the homes, businesses, warehouses and infrastructure that benefit from this ruthless bloodbath and make it possible.

Whether in Palestine, the Congo, Sudan, Ukraine or Myanmar, it is the ruling classes that benefit from wars.

Sabotage and revolt are legitimate, it is legitimate to vindicate life against militarism and the technologies of death, just as it is legitimate to vindicate and defend antimilitarism against nationalism.

It is right to liberate life from all militarism and war, from the state and patriarchy.

Against all wars and armies.

Gaza no es una ciudad o un país. No es una prisión ni un campo de batalla. No es un territorio autónomo pero tampoco es solo un pedazo de tierra entre el mar y un muro. Gaza es, hoy, un nudo. Un nudo ciego de historia, encierro, muerte y resistencia.

Gaza es una herida abierta en tiempo real.

Allí, donde viven cerca de 2,3 millones de personas (la gran mayoría refugiadas o descendientes de refugiados), no hay posibilidad de salir ni de entrar sin autorización israelí o egipcia. Gaza no controla sus fronteras, ni su espacio aéreo, ni sus costas, ni su comercio, ni su agua, ni su electricidad. En más de un sentido, ni siquiera controla su tiempo: cuándo se puede comer, dormir o morir, depende del pulso de los drones y los bombardeos.

Desde el 7 de octubre de 2023, ese pulso se ha vuelto una metáfora brutal: Gaza es hoy una zona arrasada por el Estado de Israel con una intensidad de fuego, destrucción y muerte sin precedentes desde 1948. Según datos de la ONU, para mediados de 2024, más del 70% de las viviendas han sido destruidas o dañadas. Hay decenas de miles de muertos, en su enorme mayoría civiles. Miles de niños y niñas han muerto bajo los escombros, o han quedado amputados, solos, traumatizados.

Los hospitales han sido blanco de ataques sistemáticos. La ayuda humanitaria no ingresa con regularidad, o es bloqueada o bombardeada. Hay registros de hambrunas localizadas, y el acceso al agua potable es casi inexistente. Las organizaciones humanitarias han denunciado el colapso absoluto de la infraestructura civil y la imposibilidad de mantener en pie las mínimas condiciones de vida. La Corte Internacional de Justicia ha ordenado medidas urgentes para frenar el genocidio en curso. Israel no las cumple. Estados Unidos lo respalda.

Gaza no está sola en el mundo, pero está sola frente a la maquinaria que la destruye. Lo que ocurre allí no es un accidente, ni una consecuencia trágica de la guerra. Es el resultado directo de decisiones políticas, militares y discursivas sostenidas por décadas. Es el desenlace de una historia que empieza mucho antes de la existencia de Hamas, mucho antes incluso de la creación del Estado de Israel.

Y sobre cada imagen de escombros, sobre cada cuerpo sin vida, sobre cada edificio pulverizado, la pregunta que flota entonces es una sola:

my gut feeling is without an assessment on site nobody can say for sure whether these facilities were destroyed or damaged and to what extent.

3x MOP bombs, with the ability to penetrate 18 meters of reinforced concrete, in close to the same location in succession, vs 90m of rock, dirt and some amount of reinforced concrete above the facility.

i think it depends a lot on the composition and stability of the rock above the facility and how reinforced the structure was, and how well timed the blasts were, the angle and some other variables.

you need someone on the ground to assess the extent of the damage, so i call BS on the CNN report and also on trump's claim that it was totally obliterated, until someone has proof one way or another.

People keep telling me that X11 doesn’t support DPI scaling, or fractional scaling, or multiple monitors, or something. There’s nothing you can do to make it work. I find this surprising. Why doesn’t it work? I figure the best way to find out is try the impossible and see how far we get.

I’m just going to draw a two inch circle on the screen. This screen, that screen, any screen, the circle should always be two inches. Perhaps not the most exciting task, but I figure it’s isomorphic to any other scaling challenge. Just imagine it’s the letter o or a button we wish to draw at a certain size.

I have gathered around me a few screens of different sizes and resolutions. My laptop screen, and then a bit to the right a desktop monitor, and then somewhere over that way a nice big TV. Specifically:

I’m going to draw the circle with OpenGL, using a simple shader and OBT. There’s a bunch of not very exciting code to create a window and a GLX context, but eventually we’re going to be looking at the shader. This may not be the best way to draw a circle, but it’s my way. I got a little carried away and made a pretty color wheel instead of a flat circle.

The key variable is radius which tells us how many pixels from the center the circle should be. But where does the shader get this from?

It’s somewhat annoying that physical width and virtual width are in different structures, and we have to put the puzzle back together, but there it is.

Some more code to handle expose events, the draw loop, etc., and that’s it. A beautiful circle sized just right. Drag it over onto the next monitor, and it changes size. Or rather, it maintains its size. Send it over to the next monitor, and same as before.

Time for the visual proof. A nice pretty circle on my laptop. Another circle on my monitor. And despite the 4K resolution, a somewhat pixely circle on my TV. Turns out the hardest part of this adventure was trying to hold an uncooperative tape measure in place with one hand while trying to get a decent, or not, photo with the other.

We were so close to perfection. Somebody at the factory screwed up, and my TV is actually 66.5” wide, not the claimed 63 inches. So if we learn anything today, it’s that you shouldn’t use a consumer LG TV for accurately measuring the scale of structural engineering diagrams, at least not without further calibration.

The good news is we’ve done the impossible. Even better, I didn’t mention that I wasn’t actually running this program on my laptop. It was running on my router in another room, but everything worked as if by MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1. Alas, we are still no closer to understanding why people say this is impossible.

Anyway, I think the point is we should probably ignore the people who can’t do something when they tell us we can’t do it either. I woke up this morning not knowing precisely how to draw a scaled circle, having never done so before, but armed with a vague sense that surely it must be possible, because come on of course it is, I got it working. And now look at me, driven insane by the relentless stare of three unblinking eyes.

With my new knowledge, I also wrote an onscreen ruler using the shape extension. Somewhat tautological for measuring the two inch circle, but in the event anyone asks, I can now tell them my terminal line height is 1/8”, and yes, I measured.
