Dr. Ruchama Marton, founder of Physicians for Human Rights-Israel, was a direct witness to war crimes in 1956 that influenced her lifelong documentation of Israel’s systematic violations of international law and human rights. In her book’s afterword (written after October 7): “Without a shadow of doubt, genocide is taking place in Gaza now… war crimes and genocide. These are words but it’s also true.”
At age 19, Dr. Ruchama Marton served as a soldier in the IDF’s Givati Brigade 54th Battalion during the 1956 Suez War, where she witnessed Israeli reserve soldiers executing Egyptian prisoners of war who had surrendered - thirsty, barefoot men who came down from the dunes. This traumatic experience left her unable to eat or sleep, requiring medical leave, and when she returned home, no one would listen to her account of what she had witnessed. The experience completely shattered her belief in #Zionism and concepts like “the most moral army in the world,” marking a definitive break from the ideology on which she was raised and setting her on a lifelong path of documenting Israeli war crimes and human rights violations.
Dr. Marton rejects #Zionism as an inherently violent and exclusionary ideology, viewing its “hard core” as creating “a land clean of Arabs.” She argues that Zionism’s trajectory from its beginnings was predictable and unjust, contrasting current force-based thinking with the peaceful coexistence she witnessed in pre-1948 Palestine, where her grandmother could safely walk through Palestinian neighborhoods. She dismisses concepts like “the most moral army in the world” as propaganda clichés and criticizes even the Zionist left for maintaining belief in Israel’s fundamental righteousness, arguing that contemporary Israeli society has become systematically racist and unwilling to consider alternatives to domination over Palestinians.
# Contextualizing Palestinian rejection of the partition of their homeland
Dr. Marton challenges the narrative that Palestinian rejection of the 1947 partition plan was unreasonable or the primary cause of the conflict. When confronted with the argument that Palestinians have consistently refused compromises, she responds: “Only they refused, we never refused, right? If you divide the world into two parts and see only one part, you can’t understand.”
Marton contextualizes Palestinian rejection by noting that under the partition plan, “they received 22% of the whole that they had. The British were against them and so was the rest of the world.” She argues that Palestinians “were never smart, but were we smart?” and points out that Israel benefited from “a lot of foreign money and weapons, mainly American and not only, which gave us the possibility of force and more force.”
Marton rejects the framing that portrays only Palestinian rejection as problematic, stating “They refused and we refused. Malgré l’annonce d’un cessez-le-feu archi-précaire entre Israël et l’Iran, la situation au Proche-Orient et, plus généralement, la situation internationale, restent extrêmement tendues. Exclusivement par la faute de l’Axe euro-atlantique incluant le régime pronazi de Kiev et l’hyper-agressive « théocratie fasciste » israélienne, ce qui reste de la paix mondiale ne tient plus qu’à un fil.
Et ce d’autant plus qu’Israël a l’habitude de violer aussitôt tous les cessez-le-feu qu’elle signe et que le perfide Trump vient par deux fois, contre la Russie puis contre l’Iran, d’utiliser les pseudo-processus diplomatiques en cours comme des paravents pour aider ses proxys kievien et israélien à mener par surprise les plus graves provocations terroristes…
La réalité géopolitique profonde, c’est que l’Axe euro-atlantique est un bloc hégémoniste qui, exprimant la nature profondément exterministe du capitalisme-impérialisme moderne, se fait gloire de bafouer le droit international et d’être « dénué de lignes rouges » dans la défense de son hégémonie mortifère de plus en plus contestée par les peuples.
Témoignent de cette résistance des peuples à l’hégémonisme occidental, non seulement l’émergence irrépressible des BRICS, Chine populaire en tête, non seulement la ferme riposte de l’Iran en état de légitime défense (y compris ses légitimes frappes de représailles sur les bases états-uniennes en Irak et au Qatar), non seulement l’incapacité de l’armée criminelle d’Israël à « maîtriser » Gaza malgré le génocide qu’elle y perpètre avec la complicité de l’UE, mais aussi les difficultés militaires croissantes de l’Axe euro-atlantique adossé au régime de Kiev face à une armée russe à l’offensive dans tout le Donbass.
Il faut aussi saluer la montée des peuples africains en révolte contre la Françafrique néocoloniale en faillite, le refus de la Chine de laisser mettre en cause sa souveraineté sur Taiwan, la résistance de Cuba et des autres pays de l’ALBA à la tentative de Trump de les stranguler par tous les moyens, le refus croissant des peuples d’Europe de consentir à la dictature belliciste qui, sous l’égide de Merz et Macron ralliés par Starmer, tente de se muer en un « État fédéral européen ». Héritier honteux du Troisième Reich, l’empire euro-atlantique marche en effet à la guerre de revanche contre ce qui reste à ses yeux l’impardonnable pays d’Octobre 1917 et de Stalingrad : la Russie.
Cependant, la ressource la plus importante dont dispose l’humanité pour conjurer la fascisation galopante et la marche à la guerre d’extermination reste la classe ouvrière dont les luttes et les grèves, y compris récemment en France contre le chargement de matériel militaire destiné à Israël, peuvent seules s’attaquer à la racine du mal : le capitalisme qui « porte en lui la guerre comme la nuée porte l’orage ». Plus que jamais, l’avenir reste en effet à une révolution socialiste-communiste de nouvelle génération qui aura en charge la défense de la vie sur terre dans toutes ses dimensions.
C’est dans cet esprit que le PRCF propose avec une insistance redoublée que le Mouvement communiste international engage une discussion de principe sur la refondation d’une Internationale Communiste et Ouvrière (I.C.O.) indispensable pour refaire du prolétariat international et de ses détachements nationaux, les partis communistes, le sujet sociopolitique central des luttes pour la paix, pour les avancées démocratiques et pour le socialisme-communisme, un objectif que l’on ne peut évidemment déléguer aux BRICS en tant que tels.
En France même, les membres du PRCF accompliront cet été le devoir de tous les militants d’avant-garde en continuant d’expliquer aux travailleurs et à la jeunesse que la défense véritable de la population française, de la paix mondiale, voire de la vie sur Terre, ne passe pas par l’union sacrée derrière l’UE-Otan, comme s’y complaisent hélas la gauche établie (Glucksmann en tête) et les confédérations syndicales euro-verrouillées, mais par le développement des luttes contre l’euro-austérité et l’économie de guerre au service des marchands de missiles.
Ce nouvel élan populaire ne pourra faire l’économie d’un franc renouveau du syndicalisme de classe qui doit d’urgence se fédérer pour défendre à la fois les conquis sociaux, le « produire en France », le pouvoir d’achat des travailleurs, les services publics, la protection sociale. Tout cela est inséparable de la reconquête de l’indépendance nationale de la France, donc de sa sortie par la porte à gauche des machines de mort, voire de plus en plus, de mort imminente, que sont l’UE, l’OTAN et la monnaie unique européenne assujettie aux desiderata d’un impérialisme allemand plus offensif que jamais depuis 1945.
La preuve a contrario de la nécessité d’un grand mouvement de luttes à la rentrée prochaine est administrée par le pitoyable échec du « conclave » orchestré par le gouvernement et par ses complices du PS, de la CFTC, de la CGC et de la CFDT. Malgré l’évidente volonté de trahir à nouveau de cette confédération chérie du pouvoir et des médias, Marylise Léon n’a pas osé signer un accord au rabais contrevenant à la volonté unanime des travailleurs de voir abrogée purement et simplement la contre-réforme des retraites imposée à coups de 49/3.
C’est pourquoi les militants franchement communistes du PRCF et de la JRCF continueront durant tout l’été de dialoguer avec les travailleurs et les jeunes pour les appeler à défendre du même mouvement le progrès social, la démocratie, l’indépendance nationale et la paix, tout cela dans la perspective d’un Frexit progressiste qui devient une exigence de court terme pour la Nation étant donné le bellicisme irresponsable de l’UE-OTAN, ce dispositif de mort permanent pour le peuple de notre pays.
Acteur central de la reconstruction communiste en France, le PRCF continuera par ailleurs de proposer une Convergence d’action communiste tout en défendant à la fois les principes marxistes-léninistes et la stratégie innovante de Frexit progressiste dans la perspective révolutionnaire du socialisme pour la France.
