Speaking for myself I want a very progressive tax rate. More graduations on the tax table reaching as high as 99%. And I want that money to go into public works and welfare. I want this not only for humane reasons. bot more importantly I want it in order to preserve democracy! Heifetz made it his iconic encore piece. Although I feel this recording isn't his best, was made a bit late in his career, and he maybe was a bit jaded about doing it yet again, you can still appreciate the mastery. When I was a kid I would lie under my mother's piano listening to Heifetz playing the Bach unaccompanied stuff on the old LP.
Listen about 25 seconds in to hear him play a melody line sounding as though that were the only thing he was playing despite all the stuff going on around it. Listen for variety of volume and tonal quality in different sections. IMO he distinguishes the effects better than anyone else before or since.
Heifetz' playing was unique in many ways. I have read interviews with famous violinists who said that when listening to recordings of other top violinists playing they were not really sure who it was but with Heifetz there was never any mistake.
Here is a more contemporary and perhaps more accessible version by the wonderful Hilary Hahn. Where Heifetz frequently played Bach at what most performers would consider high speed, Hahn's rendition is probably slower than average.
