I’m pretty good rebuilding shit, but these two cycle Walbro carburetors are a pain. They made thousands of variations. I can’t even find what rebuild kit number mine needs. My blower stalls once started and you hit the gas. Hoses are good. I’ve tried rebuilding these fuckers and it seems to be a time waster. Some ports you have to remove a “Welch plug” to clean out. Une super expérience, bien préparé, je me suis senti bien et à mon aise du début à la fin, avec de super bonnes sensations et gavés de beaux paysages. Que du bonheur.
Départ à 21h de Neuilly, j'étais un peu perplexe sur un tel départ. Depuis plusieurs jours, j'essayais de me faire une idée de stratégie en demandant à des connaissances engagées sur ce BRM leur stratégie sans me faire réellement d'opinion. La météo s'annonçait assez favorable sauf pour les températures.
Après un bon repas, je me rends en direction de Neuilly où j'arrive vers 19h45, le temps de saluer ceux et celles que je connais et de récupérer la carte de route et le tracker GPS.
On rediscute stratégie à employer, matériel utilisé, expériences précédentes, ... Comme je n'ai pas spécialement de stratégie, j'écoute, mais je m'étais petit à petit fait à l'idée de passer la première nuit sur le vélo et de rouler ensuite jusqu'au CP5. Florence et d'autres de l' Audax Club Parisien Community ont sensiblement la même idée, ce qui me conforte dedans, venant de personnes expérimentées par la pratique du PBP.
Le fait d'avoir passer une nuit entière sur le vélo avec Romuald Patfoort pendant le BRM 300 de nuit de l'Audax Club Parisien ne me fait plus peur et je suis assez partant pour passer la nuit seul.
Le départ est donné et assez rapidement, je trouve mon rythme propre sur des endroits que je connais, laissant filer devant les fous furieux qui vont trop vite pour moi, préférant ne pas me «cramer». À tel point qu'arrivé à Versailles, je m'arrête pour prendre le château avec le soleil couchant derrière. On est après tout en randonnée, pas en course. Je laisse ainsi filer Florent Mathey, Kévin Jnr , Amélie de Montmartre et Cécile D. que je rattrape une première fois dans la montée suivante.
Je retrouve Amélie et Kevin, ainsi que Florence et Philippe Colmaire au premier CP (Château de Sennonches) où les toilettes sont fermées. Je traîne un peu trop à mon goût, pas forcément facile de se mettre dans le mood et je repars pour m'arrêter dans un premier cimetière pour «faire de l'eau». Je repars rouler avec un groupe Audax, mais je n'arrive pas à suivre dans les descentes, aussi je laisse le groupe filer devant.
Avant Chateauneuf en Thymerais, je double El mappo 🦎LOCO 🙈 qui roule tranquillement, ce qui m'étonne un peu, car partie pleine balle avec les fous furieux.
Vers 4h du matin, j'ai un gros coup de barre, qui était en fait du au froid et au fait que j'ai tardé à me couvrir. Je me mets en sécurité à la sortie d'un village au pied d'un lampadaire allumé et je dors 20 minutes. Je repars reposé avec la veste et je profite du réveil de la nature et du lever de soleil sur la route. Je ne croise pas beaucoup de monde à ce moment, et je conserve mon rythme pour attaquer le mont des Avalloirs, le CP2.
En approche de la montée, je retrouve des participants que je salue puis je monte au sommet. Je n'ai pas eu le courage de monter au belvédère et je préfère repartir vers Pré-en-Pail où je pense pouvoir trouver une boulangerie d'ouverte pour le petit déjeuner. Deux participants discutent du respect de leur planning établi. Je recroise El mappo 🦎LOCO 🙈
Après un bon petit déjeuner, je repars vers Fougères (CP3), en passant par Lassay les Châteaux et j'arrive à Fougères vers 13h en plein marché. Je retrouve Florence et Raoul N. à la boulangerie et je me pose un peu le temps de manger le sandwich acheté le matin et de racheter un sandwich que je garde pour plus tard.
Un peu après, premier coup de chaud, que je n'identifie pas comme tel au départ, mais comme coup de fatigue. Une sieste à l'entrée de Vendel au bord du Couësnon puis je repars au moment où Philippe Colmaire de l'Audax arrive pour lui aussi faire une pause.
Je contourne Rennes par le Nord, puis oblique légèrement vers le sud, direction Iffendic puis Paimpont et la forêt de Brocéliande que j'imaginais plus grande. Le soleil tape fort et je bois et m'asperge régulièrement d'eau pour éviter la surchauffe sous les 35/36°. Un peu avant Romillé, des jeunes me disent que le Tour de France est déjà passé et in petto je me fais la réflexion que c'est tant mieux.
Arrivé à Romillé, je croise des bénévoles ? qui m'indiquent que la boulangerie ouvre dans 5 minutes. J'attend un peu à l'ombre de l'église puis vais rechargé les batteries.
Je prend un Paris Brest avec une forme originale et je suggère à la vendeuse de le renommer Paris Vannes, et demande du Coca. Quand celle-ci me propose du Coca Zéro, je lui demande de remplacer par un truc avec du sucre et je finis par du Sprite.
Je fais 20 minutes de pause, un peu «clochard» assis sur des marches, avec le visage qui tire un peu.
J'arrive à Paimpont et c'est à nouveau l'occasion de se ressourcer. Je galère un peu à trouver le bon endroit pour valider le CP, mais les bidons remplis, je peux ensuite attaquer le mur en sortie de Paimpont : 2km à 4% dont 600m à plus de 8%. Ça tire pas mal et je comprends pourquoi je voyais les deux cyclos devant moi avancer si lentement.
Je repars vers la mi parcours et la base de vie de Ploëmel où j'arrive vers 22h30 après un petit single dans la forêt dont je n'avais pas mesuré la portée au départ. Avec la nuit tombante, les ombres en forêt sont parfois trompeuses. Je retrouve Florence à la base de vie et je vois Nolan Boinet de Sans Les Roulettes - SLR repartir pour Paris sans faire de pause. C'est l'occasion de papoter un peu avec les autres participants et les organisateurs.
Certains nous disent qu'ils abandonnent ici au bout de 520 et quelques kilomètres, ce qui est déjà une distance remarquable. Je regarde un peu l'application MadCap et je découvre que Jacky Lesueur a été contraint à l'abandon, alors qu'il avait eu une place au dernier moment. Je suis déçu pour lui.
Après un repas, une détente des jambes et quelques échanges avec les autres (dont des cyclos de Pantin qui cherchaient un train de rabattement depuis Auray ou Vannes), une douche assez froide pour faire baisser la température du corps, un peu de sommeil. Le matelas gonflable et le duvet m'ont permis de dormir dehors dans des conditions pas si mauvaises.
Content de ne pas avoir été réveillé par l'arrosage automatique, mais levé une heure plus tard que ce que j'avais prévu, je me mets en ordre de marche pour repartir. En particulier, je frotte la chaîne et je remets du lubrifiant dessus.
À 6h, je repars, direction Auray et la pointe d'Arradon. J'ai loupé le lever du soleil formellement, mais la lumière du petit matin est apaisante. Un peu d'accordéon avec différents cyclos, mais je suis encore bien dans ma bulle de solitude et du coup, je roule essentiellement seul dans ma tête et réellement.
La traversée de Vannes un dimanche matin est réellement agréable et c'est sans crainte que je continue, même si je m'attends à avoir encore pas mal de montagnes russes qui ne me séduisent pas réellement. J'arrive à Allaire et vois un Intermarché d'ouvert le dimanche matin. Craignant un peu de ne pas trouver tant de commerces ouvert, je décide de faire le plein : boisson, salade de pâtes et bananes pour repartir. Ça permet aussi de faire 20 minutes de pause, ce qui est à la fois bon et pas bon.
À Beslé, cafouillage après le cimetière où j'ai fait le plein d'eau pour la 15ème fois au moins, je continue vers mon objectif de Chateaubriant. Je roule un peu avec Vincent Lajeunesse de Pantin. attrapé au passage. À l'entrée, je retrouve les cyclos de Pantin, attablé dans un bistro. Je mange ma salade de pâtes sur un banc à l'extérieur avec les marginaux locaux, puis je bois un café avec les CSP et repars bien avant eux qui font une pause complète.
Après Châteaubriant, je profite de la longue ligne droite et plate de la forêt de Juigné, puis c'est l'entrée dans le Maine et Loire. Je réalise que beaucoup de passages depuis le début sont associés à des débuts de chansons ou des jeux de mots pitoyables. Le Maine et Loire et l'occasion de fredonner du Bobby Lapointe. À Ségré en Anjou Bleu, remplissage des bidons dans un café ouvert.
À la Suze sur Sarthe, on profite d'être la veille de la fête nationale pour manger notre unique galette du séjour breton. On aperçoit Jean-Luc COGEN qui s'est arrêté pour laisser passer l'orage (il était devant) qu'on voyait au loin et qui m'enchantait guère. Pendant qu'on finit de manger, on voit passer le groupe des CSP, mais eux avaient décidé de dormir dans un F1 du Mans, aussi, nous ne les suivîmes pas au rythme où ils roulaient.
Au Mans, on peste un peu contre la validation du BRM avec le tracker GPS qui impose de passer à proximité des points de contrôle et qui ne nous permet pas de valider une carte de route dans un commerce de notre choix.
On repart du Mans avec l'idée d'arriver vers minuit à la Ferté Bernard et l'objectif de traverser la Beauce de nuit. J'avais cependant oublié une difficulté, c'est qu'avant la Beauce, il faut traverser le Perche et ses quelques bosses.
À Sceaux en Bessé, je retrouve Jean-Luc qui vient de laisser deux autres cyclos dormir dans les abris du quai de la gare. Il est lui-même un peu fatigué, entre autre par son tendon d'Achille, mais préfère continuer.
À la Ferté Bernard, en plus de valider le tracker, une photo de la porte s'impose. On repart, avec les bosses du Perche. D'après nos notes, on a 4 bosses majeures, mais il y'en a parfois d'autres, qui se ressentent encore plus durement qu'on a déjà plus de 800 km dans les pédales. À Souancé au Perche, Florence et Jean-Luc essaient de dormir. Après des hésitations, je décide de repartir seul. #brm #BRM1000
Après la montée très raide, la descente l'est tout autant et je la fais à pied. En bas, je décide aussi de remettre du lubrifiant sur la chaîne, qui grince horriblement. Au moment de repartir, Jean-Luc et Florence arrivent et nous repartons ensemble. Vers 2h du matin, je découvre une réalité dont les «habitués» du PBP m'avaient parler : les hallucinations visuelles. Il est temps de faire une pause.
Dans Happonvilliers, on cherche un endroit et Jean-Luc était parti pour continuer. Je décide de jouer la carte de la sécurité et fais demi-tour, vers l'église quitte à dormir au pied du porche. Ce demi-tour est l'occasion de trouver un abri avec des bancs et de l'herbe à côté. Florence nous a rejoint à ce moment et nous nous allongeons, Jean Luc sur un banc, Florence et moi dans l'herbe.
Le vent qui se lève finit par nous réveiller après 45 minutes de sieste réparatrice. Nous partons alors que Jean-Luc se repose toujours sous sa couverture de survie. On attaque désormais le sud de la Beauce, dans la nuit en direction de Chartres. L'arrivée dans la ville nous semble laborieuse même si, avec le recul, celle-ci est plutôt efficace. Photo et validation du dernier point de contrôle au niveau de la cathédrale.
Jean-Luc décide de repartir seul. Florence et moi cherchons à retourner efficacement sur la trace en passant par un point d'eau. En repartant, un bistrotier sort sa terrasse et nous lui demandons s'il est possible de nous servir un café. Celui-ci accepte, à condition que nous ayons l'appoint (1,50€) que nous n'avons pas, mais 2€ un café, ça n'est pas si cher payé.
Il remplit aussi nos bidons après les avoir rincé et souhaité bon courage quand il a compris ce que nous avions déjà fait et ce qu'il nous restait à faire.
Vallée de l'Eure, puis Gazeran par Émancé, un classique qu'on a plus l'habitude de faire dans l'autre sens qui nous amènera à Rambouillet, vers 8h où nous prévoyons de petit déjeuner. Rambouillet, ville départ du Paris - Brest - Paris. La bonne surprise de retrouver mon collègue @poulmairecharles venu pour prendre le café avec nous.
Mon pneu arrière commençant à être bien rincé, je profite d'un SMS de LALALA L qui proposait un café (merci, ça a fait chaud au cœur tous les messages des uns et des autres) pour lui demander d'apporter une pompe pour remettre l'arrière à 4 bars et on peut repartir.
Après Versailles, je me surprend moi-même à rattraper Florence dans les descentes et nous arrivons ensemble à 12h05 à Neuilly après 63h05 à pédaler. Bilan, moyenne totale 16.7 km/h, presque 12h d'avance sur le temps, soit 16%, ce qui est vraiment pas mal sur cette distance. Plein d'enseignements à tirer encore.

Laurent, rencontré vers la fin, trouvait qu'on avait bonne mine. J'ai royalement fait deux siestes de 20 minutes dans les 25 premières heures, 5h de sommeil réel sur un matelas gonflable, et 40/45 minutes de sieste sur la pelouse derrière l'église d'Happonvilliers.
On continue les montagnes russes vers Ploërmel puis quelques kilomètres d'une voie verte qu'on accueille avec plaisir vers le Roc Saint André. Comme il est 18h, et qu'une superette est encore ouverte, c'est l'occasion de faire une pause repas avec une barquette de riz au thon et une boisson.

I woke up my apartment's oven which hasn't been activated since I moved in two years ago and put in.... crab cakes. It was so simple. Just wait 20 minutes and boom! Time to eat. En continuant on arrive sur une bonne route de terre qui fut autrefois un chemin de fer. Nous nous trouvons au dessus des 3000m d’altitude, mais les paysages, les animaux, la végétation, les conifères, le climat et la brise me rappellent la moyenne montagne en Europe. Il ne s’agit pas des paysages les plus épiques du pays, mais les conditions font qu’il s’agit d’une des routes où nous avons le plus éprouvés de plaisir à rouler.

Summer Sunday adventures: My daughter let me know about a fractured piece of lumber in her bed frame. It was a fairly standard piece to replace, so I swapped out one for the end. Pulled the piece and drove to Lowe's to get a replacement. The plan was to have it cut to size. Sounds simple, entered the store, walked to the lumber section. Asked a rep if I can get a piece of lumber cut to size. The rep asks another rep, Is the saw still down? Yes. The saw has been out of operation for 4 weeks?

You could legitimately make a fortune by parking outside of the DMV in a van with an inkjet printer, charging $5/page to people trying to get REALIDs who've been told they need to produce a printout of yet another bill or bank statement for the clerk to glance at and then shred.
When I moved the other year, I was required to get a new driver's license within 30 days. One of the valid forms of proof of address was a utility bill.
How I was supposed to move, set up a new utility account, and get a bill within 30 days was not explained.
@cptbutton I'm in more or less that situation now. I lost my wallet, and with it my driving licence, which was the only photo id I had which was valid for applying for... A replacement driving licence. As I live off grid, I also don't have a utility bill. So far I've been unable to find any form of photo id I can apply for without photo id or utility bills which is valid for applying for a driving licence.
getting my realID in PA was quite literally the most Kafkaesque nightmare I have ever experienced.
It took six HOURS, AFTER we got triaged by the person at the door checking to make sure you had the right documents with you.
The person being served next to me was an Afghan translator who had been one of the few to have been granted asylum during the Afghanistan military withdrawal, and the poor clerk had to tell this poor man that he couldn't get a RealID.

I went to papersplease.org to read why it was I had resolved so firmly not to get one fifteen years ago. @jaredj @citizenAlex @mitch the only people who really can't fly in US without a Real ID are these who cannot get a (biometric?) passport. While it's a bit more convenient to carry a card instead of a passport, the other benefits seem to be absent. (Needless to say, such people exist, and I suppose US has millions of them, but, still, what is the point?)

It's wild that when this happened to me at the (notoriously difficult!!) Chinese consulate, I had to get out of line, but they had an inkjet printer so my visa application went through. At the DMV, when I didn't have enough ridiculous documents, they just sent me home without a RealID and I gave up.

They suggest sending debt collectors bills for wasting your time and telling them they owe you a certain fee for each letter they send or for each minute they spend with you on the phone
And sending them bills in the mail based on those assigned fees
I have privacy based reasons to not get a Real ID (people can call me paranoid all they want). However, I noticed that my experience trying to get a passport (brand new one, never gotten a passport before) was far easier than my attempt to humor getting a California Real ID based Drivers Liscense.
...and I say this as one of those people who has fallen between the cracks in bureaucracy before.
@Catwoman69y2k Having been naturalized as a US citizen (and previously having had a green card), the RealID process does not represent any incremental privacy risk for me - I am providing the same information, to the same entities, that I previously had to provide that information to.
this is if you manage to set up a cartel. Because otherwise venture capitalism steps in and outsells you with 1$ per page until it drives you out of business. (and then sells at 4.50$ per page)
maryland made all of their IDs REALIDs like 15 years ago, after the law went into effect. i dont remember doing anything special to get it, i just went and renewed my driver's license and it was REAL
