I think most new Linux users probably do. They even distrohop before they find out they can swap the user interface of their distro of choice in most cases rather easily. Then they probably move to an well known working base distro and modify it to their needs. Which isn't too surprising given most come from Windows where you can't modify the look and feel at all.
I don't know using Linux is better than using Windows because if they used Windows before they probably don't know they have a option to customize their os
When I started giving Linux at home a serious look last year, I was that shot-at person because I thought you were stuck with the desktop environment that the distro came with (so kubuntu or lubuntu or etc.) Now I go by how well the package manager / software store works for what I need, knowing that I can change the desktop environment and even the window manager if I want to.
A little bit harsh. I mean there is nothing wrong if you value esthetics over other features. I know people who like how Windows 11 looks. My intention is not to blame people for their taste, but to make them reconsider if they should not rank other things as high as esthetics, like freedom and privacy.

Portuguese author and former politician Bruno Maçães took to social media to criticise a post by Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz. Katz had shared a screenshot from a video showing Israeli airstrikes on Syria, captioned: “The painful blows have begun.”
In response, Maçães wrote: “Not sure what to call this. Psychologically it’s a mental disease. Politically it reminds us of the old European fascism like nothing else since then.”
The exchange followed a wave of powerful Israeli airstrikes that hit Damascus on Wednesday, 16 July. According to Syrian state media, the attacks targeted the Syrian defence ministry, military headquarters, and areas close to the presidential palace.
Footage aired on local TV channels showed a large explosion in central Damascus. Thick plumes of smoke were seen rising around Umayyad Square.
Police Claim 6 Guerrilla Cadres Killed In Skirmish With Security Personnel In Narayanpur District
Narayanpur District, July 18, 2025: At least six persons police claim to be cadres of the CPI (Maoist) were killed in a firefight with security personnel in the hilly forested terrain of Abujhmad region in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district, about 400 km south of Raipur, State Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) P. Sundarraj announced to the press today.
A combing operation was launched by a joint team of security forces in the Abujhmad region based on intelligence inputs about the presence of Maoist cadres in the area. An exchange of fire ensued on Friday afternoon and continued intermittently in the forest. Six bodies have been recovered so far from the encounter scene, the IGP stated in his report to the press, adding that the security forces have recovered one AK-47, a Self Loading rifle and other weapons, as well as explosives materials and items of daily use from the site of the gun battle.
The IGP concluded his remarks to the press by saying that as the search operation remains underway, further operational details could not to be shared, adding that there was however no report of any injury sustained by the security forces.
According to police officials, Abujhmad region in Narayanpur district, is among the seven Maoist-affected districts in Bastar Region, and is cited by police authorities as an epicenter of Maoist activity in south Chhattisgarh.

Idea:
3d print multi-part assemblies which have: 1. Internal pockets that can receive rectangles of cut granite tile for rigidity, and/or metal plate that has been burned to shape on a CNC plasma cutter. 2. A hollow inside with fill and vent ports for casting
Then after assembling the part with all of the granite and/or steel support structures, you pump epoxy granite paste in through the fill port, forcing all of the air out through the top vent ports.
The result will not be precise, but it will be fairly rigid, and if you require precise surfaces, you can clamp ground metal parallels into a jig which holds them in the correct orientation, and then use more epoxy to glue the main assembly onto those metal parts.

The first version of Ubuntu Linux 4.10, codenamed "Warty Warthog," and it was released on Oct/2004.
