There was a stretch of time around 2019 and into 2020 when it felt like we were living in a genuinely global revolutionary moment. The Sudanese Revolution toppled Omar al-Bashir. Palestinians marched on the Gaza boundary wall. There were mass protests in Iraq and Iran, Chile and Hong Kong. Donald Trump had to hide in the White House bunker.
Of course, elites and reactionaries around the world weren’t sitting quietly, ready to give up. They decided to mobilize their own global reaction, the fascist wave we’re living through right now. The genocide in Gaza. The civil war in Sudan. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Orban and Erdogan, the rise of Farage and the AfD, and on and on and on.
I think that’s the frame that helps make decisions like “the Trump administration cutting funding for food for starving people and research into mRNA vaccines and disappearing hair stylists and kidnapping tourists and imposing absurd tariffs” make the most sense.
The US of 2020 was too big, too diverse, too unruly for capitalist elites to truly feel comfortable.
So they’re settling on a smaller, poorer, more homogenous US that they believe will be more obedient.
It’s a trade-off: they can try to control a bigger pie, with more risk of being overthrown, or a smaller pie, that’s easier to dominate.
All of these things that make liberals scratch their heads—nonsensical, random, seemingly self-defeating policies—make sense from the fascist perspective.
They’re culling the herd. Weeding the garden.

They are in the same order, though. It's the same family that also contains potatoes and tomatoes and other food crops, there is a great variety of safety levels in the solanaceae.
Datura is correctly not to be fucked with casually, but I've seen landscaper dudes roll up a leaf and smoke it and keep doing thier thing. There are a lot of bad trip stories but I would not use the DARE-level scare language for it.

The language I'm using is coming from talking with psychonauts, not any anti-drug program. Support groups for people who use recreational substances talk about the benefits and dangers openly, and datura is frequently placed atop lists of the most dangerous substances one can take. The leaves are less psychoactive than other parts of the plant, particularly the seeds.
When I set up #Proxmox VE I installed all my nodes with stupid partitioning and now the new version is out and I don't have enough space on root to install the update. I also named my ZFS pool "zfs" like a dumb dumb. I have to reinstall to fix my partitioning so I can update and while I'm there I want to use the default, sensible, ZFS pool name of "rpool".
Problem is all my VM's have a storage called "zfs" in their config files and I don't want to edit all of them and I don't want the name of the storage to differ from the name of the ZFS pool. I also don't want any downtime so I don't want to back up and restore the whole lot. My firewall is a VM, it sounds like a pain. Plus my firewall is a VM so if I re-create the cluster from scratch and restore the VM's I have a lot of networking config to re-import.
I mulled all this over for two hours tonight before remembering I have shared storage so none of this matters. Shift the VM's to that, reinstall one node at a time (restoring cluster config as I go), done.
@apicultor On the one hand, that's what a homelab's for. But on the other I have a lot of important (to me and my wife) stuff running on it and I'm about to go on holiday for two weeks. This job still needs doing, but I might install 8.4 then it's ready for an in-place upgrade when I get back. Or just go straight to 9.0. I haven't decided yet. I like shiny new things.
