Brought my bike back from the shop after a week, biked almost halfway across this city larger than Manhattan, super winded because I'm immensely out of shape, went to put my bike away in the shed, only to discover there's now a hornet's nest directly under the door. In the last three years, I have lost count how many people I've worked closely with has been taken away by Covid. Yesterday, one of the best guys I've worked with seemed fine when he arrived at work. An hour later, the fire department picked him up from the locker room floor.
This is the first time in my long career I have lost people. It was always retirement and they would start drinking and pass away. But this Covid is getting people before they can retire. I was talking with an old friend I started my career with thirty years ago across the country and he said the same thing. He said most of his neighbors are gone. Covid got them.
