There is no Revolution Without Revolutionary Consciousness

Revolution requires more than violence—it demands collective awakening. Haiti’s crisis exposes the danger of hollow slogans masquerading as liberation.

A wind of despair blows relentlessly across the world. This wind of panic is the result of poverty and social inequalities. This has given rise to widespread wars that take various forms depending on the reality. Faced with the ravages of this phenomenon, Haiti is not spared (in fact, it is one of the biggest victims).

Haiti is plunged into insecurity in all its forms: poverty, arms trafficking and trade, organ and drugs trafficking and a lack of transportation, all of which have plunged the country into total financial insecurity. For many, Haiti has never experienced such a chaotic situation in history.

This critical situation is not without consequences for society. It forces the population to adopt a different understanding of life; many essential sectors in the society, including the universities, the media, organizations and political parties, etc, have suffered an unprecedented state of discouragement. These sectors have lost their true mission, which is to support the people by sharing a set of emancipatory values. The proper transmission of these customs and principles can help build hope in this total despair. Without this preventive education and movement, any group has a free field to approach the people and give them bad directions.

This disengagement prompts anyone, including those in the most reactionary group in the country, to chant a series of words that sound as if they carry a series of emancipatory values; but very often, the practices and activities of these people are not in line with these values. Let us take some examples: a criminal gang leader who claims he is “doing social work” or “fighting for the people,” while others even say his group is conducting a Revolution. This creates great confusion because, in the context, the word “revolution” seems to have lost its meaning.

In this confusion, the first clarification that ELAPRE [Space for Revolutionary Struggle and Action] can provide: “Revolutions cannot happen without the voice of the people; they cannot happen by causing terror among the people.” Furthermore, isn’t the purpose of this phenomenon, calling reactionary movements a “revolution,” to pervert and discredit political discourse? Doesn’t the perversion of the mother word of “REVOLUTION” to describe what these armed groups are doing in Haiti set us back in our struggle for change in the lives of the masses? Doesn’t the appropriation and bad adaptation of this concept of “revolution” not scare many credible people away from getting involved in the struggle for social change? How can the concept of “revolution” be reclaimed in the service and interests of the masses?

Faced with the reality of the exploited masses around the world, and in Haiti in particular, there is no need to go through many steps to define what a revolution is. In the tradition of the struggle for the liberation of the exploited masses, the word “revolution” would mean breaking the current model of society to establish a new society that is based on equality and the well-being of all. It would mean that it is not the capitalist system or its agents that can bring about radical change; it must be a popular, militant and organizational initiative. Only then could we say that what is happening in Haiti is on the path of revolution.

If we dig deep into past history, we might be able to trace the line of a true revolution, one that leads to freedom and well-being for all. If the word “revolution” does not translate this reality in its use, it is far from being in the interest of the Haitian people. What is the point of trivializing such an important word like “revolution?”

The ruling class has long made it its mission to demoralize those who are struggling and to trivialize a series of political words that carry a set of values. It has practiced this in different moments in history: it pitted the enslaved against each other to weaken their struggle against slavery; furthermore, during the white American occupation, they labeled the Kako freedom fighters with all sorts of bad words to maintain the occupation forces in the country; under the Duvalier dictatorship, they were called communist militants “Kamoken” in order to eliminate them and prevent them from disrupting this harsh regime.

Today, things are even worse because the ruling elite are not only attacking revolutionary activists but the very idea of “revolution” itself, putting this word into the mouths of many reactionary and destabilizing groups in the country. All this is done in order to distract the people from the true objective of their struggle.

For the sake of history and truth, the country needs a revolution that brings together the projects of the exploited and dominated classes (whether they are workers, peasants, unemployed, or employees of the public or private administration). The objective is to establish a society without power, in the interest of the masses. The objective of this revolutionary movement does not aim to bring mourning and destabilization to the popular masses, but to make them truly live the project of life of freedom and well-being.

A revolution is a sudden change that overthrows a system of domination and exploitation to establish a new system. This change is brought about by the exploited.

“Revolution” is not a vague and meaningless concept; it takes its meaning in the exploration of social realities. Tell me what your society is based on, and I will tell you what revolution means. If society is based on slavery, on the basis of race and skin color, the revolution will be anti-slavery or anti-racist; if capitalism transforms human labor into a cheap commodity to facilitate it exploitation, and makes an accumulation of capital through generating colossal profits, the revolution will be anti-capitalist. For this, it is necessary a vanguard must accompany the people on the path of struggle, helping them to maintain the ideological line and develop their tactics. This requires in-depth reflection on revolutionary principles and their possible applications. This is the role of the organizations in front of the struggle for this transformation.

We cannot allow the crises around the world, and especially in Haiti, to destroy the left like this. Neither can we renounce our left identity, without us making the slightest effort to recover it, rebuild it, and strengthen our alternatives. We must not let the left become too small or too big for us, by entering into collusion with the team that is taking power against the masses. We must take responsibility and assume our identity as revolutionary left-wing activists.

In this sense , ELAPRE calls on all progressive organizations to form a united front to work together to thwart the plans of destruction carried out at the highest levels of Haiti. The response to the current chaotic situation must be concrete; it must not remain just words. Therefore, it is necessary to adopt good strategies and creative tactics to establish parties and mass organizations, and seek to take control of power in order to achieve the objectives of the people, in the construction of another society, and another state.

So MUCH bullshit from The (formerly) Great White North. The public getting kiked by "climate change" in a new, creative fashion:

"Responding to disbelief that there can be any correlation between hiking and wildfires, Liberal New Brunswick Premier Sue Holt admitted there wasn’t any but warned that it could be dangerous for offenders to spend time in the great outdoors because they wouldn’t get rescued if they broke a leg. Holt said people are asking her how “going for a walk in the woods is going to cause a fire," to which she clarified, "I can understand why people think that that's ridiculous..."

Yes, it's ridiculous and you should be shot, Sue, for even dreaming this shit up.

US Imperialist Military Launches Threatening Deployment Into Caribbean

The U.S. military is sending a large contingent into the Southern Caribbean Sea after President Donald Trump ordered the Pentagon to launch operations using the pretext that they are fighting drug cartels. The move marks one of the most direct uses of American military power in the region in years, and officials say it is aimed at addressing what they call “threats to U.S. national security.”

The Pentagon has already started deploying forces, though the exact number of troops and ships involved has not been made public. According to The New York Times, Trump quietly signed an order last week authorizing U.S. troops to carry out “anti-cartel missions” in other countries. The specific cartels targeted under this directive have not been disclosed, leaving questions about how wide the operation could reach, and of course, the true intentions behind any such actions.

The United States has designated several cartels and international gangs as foreign terrorist organizations in recent years, most of them based in Mexico. However, sending forces to the Southern Caribbean points to a likely focus on Central and South American countries. Venezuela’s northern coast borders that sea and the US regime recently threatened to attack the socialist government.

The U.S. has also placed a $50 million bounty on Maduro, signaling a new brazen, lawlessness as the US attempts to impose its will into the hemisphere after its power has waned so signficantly.

The imperialism mission is bound to meet resistance but the pressing questions is which country or countries are the initial targets?

My ex-father-in-law was alone on the streets of NYC at 12. He lived in a basement with a German Shepard. He started working at 12 yrs old; his sister was put in foster care & he never saw her again. My paternal grandfather was an orphan before he was 10 yrs old in Warsaw, Poland (late 1800's). He was apprenticed to a man aka a slave in return for meager lodging & scant food. Today's cell phone addicts have no idea how difficult life can be at a very young age.

NPA Unit Battles AFP Troopers In 2 Separate Encounters In Oriental Mindoro Province

We have received information that a unit of the New People’s Army engaged attacking troops of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) twice today in Barangay Lantuyang 2, Baco, Oriental Mindoro Province. The second encounter resulted in three fascist troops killed in action, and three others wounded. The enemy troops are part of the Philippine Army’s much-vaunted Scout Ranger regiment.

The NPA unit, assisted by the masses in the area, was maneuvering to counter-encircle a number of columns of enemy combat troops. Along their route, they chanced upon a unit of tired enemy soldiers. Based on reports from the field, the NPA unit took the initiative to strike in order to break through the enemy’s encirclement. After a brief exchange, the NPA unit disengaged and safely withdrew from the battle site. The NPA unit reported no casualties on their side.

The enemy’s unit leader, 1Lt. John O. Alberto sustained a fatal head shot and died on the spot, according to the AFP’s own reports. Another enemy soldier, a private, was also killed-in-action, while another soldier, a corporal, died on the way to the military hospital. We condole with the families of the enemy soldiers who died in battle.

On orders of Marcos and his fascist officers, these enemy soldiers have been carrying out ruthless offensives against the New People’s Army and against the masses of Mindoro without rest for the past several months. They have placed many parts of the Mindoro island under martial law and have committed grave atrocities and violations of human rights and international humanitarian law. They are carrying out a fascist rampage after declaring that they will end the people’s resistance in Mindoro by the end of the year.

As in many parts of the country, the objective of Marcos is to suppress the people of Mindoro’s armed and non-armed resistance to the entry of mining companies, plantations, energy projects and other foreign-backed or foreign-owned corporations that are aggressively grabbing land and destroying the environment, resulting in grave hardships to the peasant masses, Mangyan communities and people of Mindoro.

The just ire of the broad masses of Mindoro is being roused by the crimes and abuses of Marcos’ fascist troops. More than just a week ago, on August 1, a local peasant activist in San Jose town, in Occidental Mindoro Province , was killed by soldiers of the 4th IB. Last August 7, an NPA fighter, Ka Mutya, who detached from her unit to fetch water from a nearby spring, was captured by troops of the 1st IB, subjected to torture before being killed, in violation of the international rules of war.

In the face of the fascist marauders ordered by Marcos to suppress the people’s resistance, today’s battle at Baco town is an important tactical victory of the people of Mindoro. It will surely inspire the peasant masses and Mangyan people to fight even more vigorously, courageously and militantly.

The Party commends the NPA unit and the local masses of Mindoro for their tactical victory in fighting the enemy’s all-out fascist attacks. Their victory will surely embolden the people in their resistance against their oppressors and exploiters.

The NPA remains focused on recovering strength from past losses and rebuilding the people’s organizations and organs of political power. With the firm unity of the peasant masses and their people’s army, we are certain that the people’s war will win even greater victories in Mindoro and across the country.

@gme @tomminieminen American English, right? The equivalent here (In Ireland & the UK anyway) would be "redundancy". We tend to reserve "retirement" for the end of working life, & for those generations wealthy enough to actually be able to afford it. 😅😭

And having recently been job hunting, you have my sympathies. It sucks so bad & the market is horrible. 🫤

in reply to Nudeln Al Dente

Redundancy or not it's called "retirement" over here.

Just like we use "trunk" and "hood" and say "truck" and "dumpster" and you say "boot" and "bonnet" and "lorry" and "skip".

"Redundancy" would be what we would call someone getting "laid off". I wasn't "laid off". It was made clear to me by management they wanted someone else to do my job. My options were (a) quit, or (b) retire.

If I quit I would have given up my pension.

So I retired.

Then I immediately sold all my stock.

I cannot say it was a body double but why not? Idiots around the world ar calling Putin a war criminal and clamoring for his improsonment.

When other world leaders do something with which we disagree we still give them the respect of being leaders of their nation.

In this case, Zelensky called him a war criminal and Trump said that is not a good way to start negotiations. Empress Ursula continues to call hinm a war criminal.

Bombing Ukranians by Ukraine is not a war crime?

From Alaska to Washington: Trump to Discard Zelensky Before EU Leaders' Eyes

From Alaska to Washington: Zelensky to Conclude Playing His Role

President Donald Trump will host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders at the White House on August 18 to push forward Ukraine peace talks
On August 18, President Donald Trump will host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and top European leaders at the White House to advance negotiations on a lasting settlement to the Ukraine conflict following the US-Russia summit in Anchorage, Alaska.

Trump Welcomes European Leaders to Washington
The talks will bring together NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and Finnish President Alexander Stubb. Trump wrote on Truth Social:

“Tomorrow is a big day at the White House. Never had so many European leaders at one time. My great honor to host them!!!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Schedule of the White House Summit
European leaders are expected to arrive at the South Portico at 12:00 p.m. ET (7:00 p.m. Moscow time). At 1:15 p.m., Trump will meet with Zelensky in the Oval Office, joined by Vice President JD Vance. One hour later, Trump will greet European leaders in the State Dining Room before proceeding to the Cross Hall for a group photograph. Extended negotiations with Zelensky and European leaders will begin at 3:00 p.m. (10:00 p.m. Moscow time).

After the Alaska Summit
Speaking in Alaska on August 15, Trump said progress had been made on Ukraine, though “a few key issues” remain unresolved. He later called Zelensky and European leaders, saying all sides agreed that a full peace agreement — not a temporary ceasefire — is the best path forward. In an interview with Fox News, Trump stressed that much depends on Zelensky’s decision, suggesting that Ukraine might have to forgo NATO membership and formally recognize the loss of Crimea, which he described as

“lost under Obama 12 years ago without a single shot fired.”
U.S. Officials Outline Possible Compromises
Trump’s envoy Steven Witkoff confirmed that “territorial exchanges” will be on the table in Washington. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said both sides must “give something up” to move forward, predicting a future trilateral meeting between Trump, Putin, and Zelensky.

Zelensky’s Response
Zelensky emphasized that peace must be enduring and not repeat past compromises. He recalled that Ukraine was pressured into giving up Crimea in 2014 and granted ineffective “security guarantees” under the 1994 Budapest Memorandum.

“Of course, Crimea should never have been surrendered, just as Ukrainians refused to surrender Kyiv, Odesa, and Kharkiv after 2022. Our soldiers are achieving success in Donetsk and Sumy regions. I am confident we will defend Ukraine, secure effective guarantees, and our people will always be grateful to President Trump, to America, and to every partner for their support,”
Zelensky said.

Russia’s Position
According to reports in the New York Times and Reuters, at the Anchorage summit Putin demanded Ukrainian troop withdrawal beyond the administrative borders of Donetsk and Luhansk, and suggested freezing the conflict in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia along current front lines. In return, Moscow reportedly offered Kyiv Russian-controlled parts of Sumy and Kharkiv regions. Neither side has officially confirmed this.

Witkoff called Russia’s readiness to provide security guarantees to Ukraine a “turning point.” Putin, however, spoke cautiously, noting that he saw Trump’s “desire to understand the roots of the conflict” but stressed that lasting peace requires addressing Russia’s security concerns.

“We must ensure all legitimate Russian concerns are taken into account and restore a fair balance of security in Europe and worldwide,” Putin said after returning to Moscow.
