If you've ever seen an adaptation of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde you probably got a completely different story than the actual novella.
Mr Hyde is no alternative persona he's not Jekyll evil half... Jekyll created Mr Hyde as a mask to do all the twisted things Jekyll himself couldn't get away without destroying his reputation or being arrested.
This is mostly confirmed by the suicide note at the end where Jekyll references his actions in the guise of Mr Hyde as things 'I' did.
It's not a story about a good man with D.I.D with a dark alter. It's about a bad man torn between trying to maintain a sterling reputation while being a twisted individual under the surface.
It's right there in your face really Hyde, the side of Jekyll he hides from polite society.
I mean more than a mask. Could be more than just psychological, but less than an alter. He's aware of what he's doing, it's all him, he's just chemically suppressing his empathy or whatever.

crazy thing is, it does have a downstream sensor, which ostensibly is to check that the catalyst is functioning properly, but obviously it had no clue that there was zero catalyst left cause there was no check engine light

Hey #WotW. I'm super sorry: I moved the database to a safer location, and while I made a backup immediately before, both the move and the backup ended up getting corrupted. I luckily had another backup from two days ago, but that does mean that everyone will be logged out, and anything anyone posted in the last two days will be gone. In the future, I'll be sure to test backups before relying on them, especially on old hardware like this.
Even with the old backup, several tables were still corrupted, so I had to dump and recover one of them, and just straight up rebuild the other. Good thing I'm such a SQL guru dear god please hire me
