So.... 😳 The lady gave me 24 FREE silkie eggs (Edit- my math's was wrong, she gave me way more then 24) She had 2 hens who've been sitting on eggs for 3 weeks. They were free because she didn't know if they were good or not. She didnt check. I just candled them and only 7 are either duds or not developed yet I can't fit them all under one broody hen so I obviously chose the ones who look like they will hatch any day now. And some are very close. They will all hatch at different times most likely She's sitting on 12. Im going to try to fit one or two more under her I say between tomorrow and the next 10 days, I'll have lots of baby silkies 😳😳 These are the leftovers

The other night I watched The Blues Brothers - mostly because it's a Culturally Significant Film and I hadn't ever seen it.
My main reaction to it was that in the late 70s early 80s, blacks were represented as having a unique culture. Of course all the crime was committed by white guys, but the blacks actually were something.
These days blacks have only two representations in culture: Violent criminal, or androgynous multi-racial "you'll own nothing and you'll be happy" guy. That's it, and even like Netflix which spares no expense to shed good light on blacks can't manage to represent them as anything other than culture-less Own Nothing Be Happy loser.
Those were good times. Everybody was connected in neighborhoods. Lots of music and dancing. Then it was stolen. "They" didn't like people having fun. Progress may have done it too, I guess.

I do think there is one vector of pressure that we don't talk about directly very often that is playing a role in a lot of political edginess. From nativism, to the rightward swing of the UK and US the silent actor is climate change.
Because at this point wealthy people know that it is real and I think some of them are panicking.
Their panic takes two forms, one more apocalyptic than the other.
The first is the sobering realization that if there were wider public awareness of climate change it would mean that people would expect their governments to "do something" and this would disrupt a balance of power that is currently working for them.
The more extreme version of this panic is a kind of bunker mentality.
There will be more refugees in the future, not fewer. Food prices will be higher.
Some people find this terrifying. Their first thought is: close the borders! invade greenland!
And to some degree I think the wider public is becoming more aware, it won't help when they realize that they have been tricked that the seriousness of the problem has been hidden from them and downplayed.
In the UK our giovernment surely knows this, and the best they got is:
"Look at the immigrants in the expensive hotels, if it wasn't for them we would be able to make everyones lives better and deal with problems, it's all their fault!"
When it's our government who refuse to process the people and them who chose the hotel, and them who are not doing their job properly --

I posit there is a cottage industry of security specialists, engineers and architects that developed the last 2 decades around selling the idea to the hyper-rich (the top 0.1%) that their fortune will save them and their family... Been working on getting Linux going on a T2 #Mac. The T2-Linux contributors have done a great job, but it's still kinda buggy. The best workflow I've come up with is using the T2-Ubuntu ISO, then manually adding modules to initramfs so I can enter my passphrase into LUKS.
My biggest issue is that the touchbar is unreliable. Sometimes it's dead. Sometimes it's stuck on media controls. Changing the default mode in the conf file does nothing. Tiny-dfr won't even start.
To be clear, I blame #Apple for making this machine so closed and for the ridiculous design decision that is the touchbar. I just hate wasting what should be a good machine because Apple hates freedom.

I've been moving more towards AMD processors. Intel has had quite a few problems over the last few years. Part ownership by the government of USA likely won't make it better.
@matthew When it comes to desktops, the last 5 I've built, for myself or others, have been AMD. The longevity of the socket makes them very attractive.
I have built quite a few custom desktop PCs for clients. For the last five years or so, I've mostly been going with AMD. I have been very happy with that.
