A great EU wide Linux-based operating system is already in proposal by Robert Riemann, and it needs more public attention:

in reply to The Linux Experiment

They hired a moron for a CEO. He could've said, "We're looking into adding some AI features for those who need them (like the auto image alt-text thing), but they can be toggled off" but the wording he used, "AI Browser", made it sound much more worse. Also, he probably wanted to say something like, "We could disable ad-blockers similar to Chrome but we're driven by our mission, not profits." but the way he worded it and him mentioning the exact figures made it seem like he researched it, thought about it, almost went with it, but then decided not to at the last second. That whole post is just terribly worded.

I still have hope for Mozilla. Until now browsers either tried to add as many easy-to-implement AI features or they tried to lure users I to the browser vendor's own AI ecosystem.

Mozilla can be the first browser company trying to answer how users might benefit from AI. But yes, if they implement AI just for the sake of AI (like everyone else), then Mozilla fails its mission.

For the love of all that is good, *someone* PLEASE create a browser UI around Servo that is:

* #copyleft #FOSS
* Community governed
* Has daily testing packages
* Community funded non profit
* Avoids off device #AI
* Communicates clearly

I worked professionally with high profile #crowdfunding campaigns for years. I am 100% certain a campaign would go viral, with stretch goals blown away.

#Servo isn't feature complete, but many (me!) would 100% daily drive something alpha, buggy and missing features to build a better future. Hint: this is exactly what successfully launched FIrefox against #IE.

We need hope we can escape the sinking, Titanic shitopoly of #Chrome and #Firefox. We will rally around any principled alternative.

Oh and before anyone brings up funding success, or lack thereof of Servo / Verso:

Servo is not a public facing project, like an app, and as such is more difficult to get people to invest in, especially without a large number of users. A decent browser project would address this.

Verso never directly sought funding from the public. While having a number of good points ideologically (non profit, FOSS), their communications were highly inexperienced. No website. No social media presence. A tagline about blues music rather than why they were building it. For these reasons and more, it's been unmaintained for months. They site lack of support and finances, I suspect from being largely unknown and difficult to try. I wish them well and would love to see them rise from the ashes again.
