There's a paradox in any complaint about the cruelty of God...

We çan accept that some amount of people will die suddenly or of disease far before their time... But it becomes impossible for people to accept that those killed by the Hebrews in war were also slated for early deaths even when these were deaths more meaningful than those of us who die young and of cancer... And all these deaths are actually authored by God.

To accept that early death can be a part of divine providence at all is to acknowledge that the deaths of those who opposed the historic Israel... For it is the case that these deaths were far more meaningful than likely most other early deaths in terms of their role in History.
