that was a good talk -- beauty is really an emergent property of the underlying rubbish heap of reality.
As far as I understand the contemporary beauty criterion is almost entirely about simplification. Where you have many you want to unify and have one, where you have a tiny little thing you want a pure 0. That's a kind of "no complexity" approach, the universe is believed to be "simple". And It worked quite well up to now, I wonder if it will hold longer. Nobody cares but I believe it is linked with monotheism : one god, one rule. Maybe we'll need another kind of religion to decipher the universe further.
