The cancellation of RMS (and the end of FSF?)

I didn't fully understand why Richard Stallman had to leave his position at the Free Software Foundation but I think companies seized the opportunity to take control of the #FSF.

Now, Leah Rowe, founder of #Libreboot and trans person writes a letter defending #RMS against the accusation of him being transfobic, defends his key role for #freesoftware to exist and denounces the movements of companies and organizations infiltrated in the #freesoftware movement.

Defend Richard Stallman!

I don't like M$ anywhere near free software: they embrace open source, not free software, because they get free labor that way, and undermine the free software movement.

I knew that RMS tried to exonerate somebody linked to Epstein but I couldn't then quite understand what exactly he said. I think I've read these days that it was related to some sexual relationship that professor had with a student, and RMS said she consented that relationship.

Clicking in ussr.win/link/6266518 opens a new window where I can compose a new message.

As I said, I don't know all the details, but despite RMS could've said something regretable I think behind the curtains a fight for power is happening. On one side, because Free Software wouldn't exist without RMS I give him much credit, but if he resigned for whatever reasons and doesn't regret them I don't understand him back in FSF board.

Anyway, thought worth sharing Leah Rowe's statement. I also read Defend Richard Stallman letter and find it reasonable.

@Robert Dinse I think there's neither self mutilation nor mental illness:

- Trans people go through a whole medical process which may or may not include plastic surgery. Are people who use plastic surgery mentally illed?

- I don't fully understand trans people because I don't feel like them, but I think they just feel their biological sex doesn't match the gender they feel, so they go through that medical process and people misunderstanding just to be true to themselves and honest with other people.

Because they're just being true and honest, do no harm to anybody and don't force other people to do the same they have all my respect.

@ivan zlax She was I believe 17, don't know what state that was in but here age of consent is 16, I think there are plenty more egregious examples involving people in this circle and much younger, 12 and 13 year olds but since they rigged the election to make sure they weren't prosecuted, we'll never know.

@ivan zlax I don't know and if she was of legal age, I don't care. Either it was consensual and she was of consenting age, and it is my understanding she was, in which case their relationship is none of your or my fucking business and certainly not relevant to software.

@ivan zlax Well I'm not going to invest much emotional energy one way or the other. My take is that Richard Stallman has done a lot for free software in the past and in my view is well qualified to head up the FSF much less just be a board member, and the sexual proclivities of his friend or how he feels about him personally is really irrelevant.

@ivan zlax I think evangelism is something the open source community needs. Obviously people who are charismatic can be more effective at it, but yea for a lot of people emacs is a useful tool. I personally don't like it, but I grew up on vi, well actually ed before vi, then vi.

@ivan zlax Richard Stallman having a friend who has what you consider an age inappropriate relationship is a far cry from killing millions of people. And if Emacs was only used by a handful there wouldn't be extensions of it to do just about everything including butter toast. The fact of the matter is it is a rather widely used editor. And again I do think it is important to have an effective advocate for free software.
